FDNY and East Coast Firefighter Ski RacesJanuary 29 & 30, 2013
40th Anniversary FDNY Race!
For the 40th consecutive year, Hunter Mountain is hosting one of the most unusual ski races to be found anywhere, as members of the New York Fire Department make their annual trip to Hunter Mountain.
On Tuesday, January 29, 2013, teams of five firefighters dressed in full turn-out gear attempt to navigate through a race course while carrying a 50 foot fire hose.
This race is open to any New York City Firefighter. The winners of Tuesday's race have the chance to race in the East Coast Firefighter's Race on Wednesday for the East Coast Championship.
Proceeds from this event will be donated to the N.Y. Firefighters Burn Center Foundation.
Then on Wednesday, January 30th, 2013, it's the 31st Anniversary of the East Coast Firefighters Race. This day is open to any paid or volunteer fire company OUTSIDE of New York City.

Excuse my ignorance, but what can a "full peace officer" do that requires more than 24 hours of training? I don't mean that in an accusatory way, I literally don't know what it means.
Full Powers and required training for NYS Peace Officers are in Criminal Procedure Law Article 2 (sections 2.20 & 2.30)
Rather than copy the whole law, here's a link: http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/LAWSSEAF.cgi?QUERYTYPE=LAWS+&QUERYDATA=@SLCPL0P1TAA2+&LIST=LAW+&BROWSER=EXPLORER+&TOKEN=55561855+&TARGET=VIEW
Roles and definition of Fire Police is Genral Municipal Law Article 10 (Section 209-c)

I've always wondered why several agencies dispatch on 2 frequencies at once. For example, a few sound shore fire departments dispatch on 46.26 and 33.96. I understand if EMS in on 1 frequency and FD is on the other, but why dispatch on 2 different frequencies for just a FD call. It’s always puzzled me, thanks.

Here's one study about consolidation of 10 southern Westchester FD's:

If I'm correct, there are several NYS laws that prevent consolidation.
