  1. Not for nothing but what about the brother from 47 truck who pushed into the apartment, conducted the search, found the boy and pulled him out. This civilian just stood on the fire escape and walked the kid down. I think some credit should be given to the brother who was operating on the fire floor.
  2. Uh.... Many of us here are real live FDNY FFs. The fact that he is one doesn't exclude him from being a tool. Ask around and see for yourself. Jealousy? Not quite, I tend to shy away from the cameras. Furthermore, him being a tool has NOTHING to do with what he does for a living. It's about how obnoxious he acts at the games and how hard he makes it for anyone behind him to enjoy themselves.
  3. This guy is a tool. How "cool" would it be to be at a game with your kid and have to sit behind this jerk?
  4. All YFD truck companies, the squad and rescue carry extrication tools in Yonkers. Also, Yonkers Police ESU fully outfits their trucks with spreaders, cutters, combo and rams.
  5. What is there to work out? Once the patient is removed, EMS takes over patient care and does the transport. You learn that in basic EMT school.
  6. Hopefully JCPDESU wasn't one of the ones injured. Speedy recovery to all.
  7. 500lbs plus! We get them above the 7th floor in the PJs and there is never a working elevator. That's what the squad/rescue is for. Let the 12%s work for you.
  8. I hear what you're saying Flynn but what may be routine to us in NYC, Yonkers and Mt. Vernon is probably a big to do in the northernmost reaches of the county/state. That being said, it is a pain filtering through all the nonsense to get to the good stuff.
  9. Well you know what they say. If the shoe fits....
  10. Well if you read the article it says that their union leader stated that 5 ffs would staff each of the affected companies and be dispatched and respond to jobs (will they also take in CFRs, Hydrants and lockouts?). The commissioner says that he won't evict his men from the firehouse stating that they can "hang out and have coffee all day but don't do anything to get yourself into a dangerous situation". Seems like Mayor Menino is chomping at the bit to get these guys jammed up the first chance he gets. My point is, why risk it? Not like the city is going to back them up if they get hurt while acting as vollies. What happens if while responding they wreck the rig? Are they liable to the city for damaging city property? Will there be criminal charges filed? Who knows, why risk it? Seems like the brothers in Beantown are walking a fine line. And if you think that the public cares about them, well then just read some of the comments left by the fine folk of Boston at the bottom of the article.
  11. So what happens when one of them gets hurt while at a job? Is the city still going to cover them even though they weren't officially on duty? I think what they're doing is a horrible idea and a dangerous gamble. Basically, in a paid department it amounts to scabbing. We have "brown outs" everyday pretty much. There can be anywhere from 8-14 companies OOS for medicals, BI, education day etc, etc. Bottom line is you need to cover your a** and look out for your future. If the city thinks that they can brown out 4 companies and guys will still scab them for free then they'll brown out 8 companies hoping for the same results. Remember, its a JOB. There will always be fires.
  12. Here is a recent job where the push was delayed due to the brothers having some difficulty forcing the roll down gates to the 99 cent store. Unfortunately this is a common occurrence in places like Harlem and Tremont where these rolldown gates and taxpayers are all too common Many times the gates are warped, making it quite difficult to remove the slats. Another method that is used to attack these gates is the "Triangle Cut". Another good tip I learned from a crusty O/V man was to poke holes in the slats with the pike end of the haligan and then use those holes to pull the slats out. Anyone else?
  13. The guy is as solid as the building and I believe Truck 4 is right, he does hail from Long Island.
  14. Numbers kid, it's all about the numbers!
  15. In this day and age this ruling certainly comes as a breath of fresh air. New Haven 20 Ruling
  16. Awesome shots Bill! Truly amazing. Too bad I couldn't be in attendance.
  17. Rumor has it that Kodachrome is going to be replaced by a new, technologically superior film called "The Building". Supposedly this new film will delay your pictures for up to 6 weeks in order to achieve high quality results.
  18. The brother that was run over was working 4 Engine, he was by the rig when he was struck by R1 and pinned between both rigs. As a result R1 was impounded pending an investigation.
  19. Is the club an "O" gauge exclusive club or do you guys dabble in "HO" as well?
  20. I wonder if you would be so quick to "cover things up" if this was a video of a police officer using excessive force to arrest some criminal. Should that also be handled "in house" or should it be made public (as those types of videos always are) so that everyone can second guess the officer?
  21. Why should this be kept "in house"? The fact that this guy had guns in the house dispatch knew about it yet failed to inform the responding officers to me seems like a fatal error on his/her part. Had these officers known this little piece of information, things might have turned out quite differently that morning. Firemen, EMTs and especially cops are held under a microscope when performing their duties. Why should dispatchers be any different? I sure this person feels horrible for the way things turned out but the fact of the matter is that he or she quite possible played an indirect role in the death of these 3 officers by withholding pertinent information. Hopefully, by making the details of the incident available to the public, it prevents another tragedy such as this from happening.
  22. Just curious, can any of the Yonkers guys advise as to how many confined space, trench or collapse jobs there are on average in Yonkers on any given year? Not drills or an M/A response outside the city. I'm wondering about actual jobs within the city.
  23. Yes you may not know therefore you ask but your post is full of condescension and contempt. Why the need to put the word team in quotation marks as if to imply that they're not really a team at all.
  24. There is nothing for me to get over. These guys are trying in good faith and it seems like you're hell bent on knocking them down. The team is newly established, let the kinks work themselves out in time. If not then so be it. Instead of beating them up why not offer your help/training? If not you should worry about your own in-house issues before you try to tackle someone else's problem bro. Did you ever get that boat up off Warburton ave? I'll still take two of those t-shirts if ya got em.
  25. Are there going to be any PD ESU guys on the team? I know of one that's on the county Haz Mat team.
