  1. just an fyi arount 9:50am at lot D at the Yale - Harvard game 3 pedestrians were struck, possibly by a Uhal truck being driven by a male. multiple ambulances were called to the scene. 1 victim a female was in traumatic arrest on scene and cpr was performed however she succombed to her injuries. The vics were at a tailgate party and PD are also checking out the driver for possible DUI. Lot D is located in the area of 81 Central Avenue. No word on the condition of the other 2 victims update - just learned all 3 victims were female, also the area where the accident occurred has now been closed off and police are calling it a crime scene
  2. this was posted yesterday 30 y/o from mass died and 2 other females were trnsported to the hospital. they actually announced it during halftime. according to both the papers and tv you could have heard a pin drop at the bowl right about then.the whole incident is pretty sad if you ask me. yale said they are going to be investigating and changing some of the tailgating rules
  3. While I didn't know Mike, I did deal with alot of the guys from Mahopac while working for CMTI back in the day. My condolences to all you guys at the FD and his family. Joe T. Retired Medic 095642
  4. That's Great!!!! May the be many more to come!!!
  5. That is 100% definitely a "STRIKE" and that I would never support. While I am all for a program giving vollys gas or some type of incentive, I think it is definitely WRONG to not respond. If that's the case when you demand something like this, you are demanding to be paid, 1st that means you are not volunteer anymore, but more importantly, I know if I ran a department and the crews came to me and said they weren't going to calls unless they got XYZ, I'd be like drop your gear off right here and see ya. I don't care if I have a career department or a volunteer department covering my town, as long as it's covered. For those who do favor volly departments over career, the statement itself, about not responding is just the reason to advocate for a paid department. I will say this though. While I don't advocate not responding, I do advocate picketing in your off hours for and only for, any life threatening issues which may arise out of the job. Such being inadaquate gear or equipment that can cause severe bodily injury or death, and major things along that line. But even until the issue gets settled, the trucks should still run. Just a personal opinion which I'm sure I'll get jumped on for. joe
  6. guys, don't murder the guy come on. he had a good idea, making gas available at a discount to "ACTIVE" members. Plus someone brought up the program of per call. that locks in for no abuse. you do the call you get the gas, end of story. i know where some of you guys are coming from. i actually know of a dept that is nothing but a social club. i'm not going to say which or where but this dept doesn't even have a truck. But there is a difference between rewarding those who do serve and playing favorites. So please guys, give this person a chance. Explain why it would or wouldn't work, including the ways it could be open for abuse like you guys have. I respect each and everyone of you on this board and your opinion is very important as are your ideas, experiences, etc. At least to me they are. Stay Safe Out There Joe
  7. First off, these aren't mine, but if I had the cash and the time to go to NJ, I might just drive there and buy these myself. Anyway my son David was looking on Craigslist for a firetruck to restore, etc for just putting in parades and shows anyway when he did his search these popped up and I thought someone might want them so thats why I'm putting the link up (btw, I wonder what type of mod he did to it-lol) http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/2697934478.html Stay Safe Everyone. (PS- not much to do tonight as I'm back in Yale yet once again. Oh well)
  8. obviously the stuff is still circulating out there. On a plus note, appearently the Feds did ban the stuff used to make this crap a couple of weeks ago but like I said the stuff is still easily obtainable. Plus I think the ban is only for like a year http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/...79K6L320111021
  9. joe it's not ah my ride it's aye my ride!!!! lol but then again realistically the whole system is abused on a serious note

  11. smh http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/29/us/florida-cop-reckless-driving/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 actually the video from the on board camera as well as the audio really puts things in a different light http://abcnews.go.com/US/video/miami-police-officer-arrested-speeding-14842258
  12. Just so you guys know, ton of articles last few hours. Smokin' Joe Fraizer has entered hospice due to liver cancer. His manager of the last 7 years, Leslie Wolff says he is critically ill and needs a miracle to survive. I remember watching several of his fights growing up. Kinda hazy because it was so long ago, but I could have swore he boxed Muhammad Ali. All I know is that Fraizer was a great man and a great boxer and my heart goes out to his family, his friends and his fans. joe
  13. This is pretty sad, but you guys all know once you hit hospice, that's pretty much the end of the road. Still sad though and I hope he didn't suffer. As much as Dr.'s say you don't have pain from liver ailments, trust me, they are wrong. When your live capsule expands from your liver becoming enlarged, there is pain, trust me on that, I can tell you that first hand. Then there are the points when the capsule becomes enflamed. As long as you get decent pain management, it's bearable. so I am hoping Joe had that. RIP Joe, you were and always will be a true legend
  14. you know I can think of a lot of places that could benefit from a program like this and not just in NY either. Problem is who is friends with who and if too many hands stir the pot. I will say this, iit is an excellent program/ Someone else was talking to me on the phone about a program just like this in another area of rockland
  15. You know, when I originally saw this, I posted this and I don't want to start a war here. I am not a LEO, but I can understand where they are coming from, but as a civilian, and having watched what was made available of the stop and the dash cam, I still have to say the miami officer did appear to be driving recklessly at the very least therefor in my opinion (as a civilian) placing others in harms way. That said, some will say the trooper by activating her lights and siren and pursuing the miami car also placed the public at risk. Now there are a few things that jump out at me from the video and audio available. 1. the trooper states plainly to the miami officer that his driving led her to believe the marked patrol car may have been stolen. and she is also heard saying that this same miami unit has been seen doing the same thing on numerous occassions. for either of those reasons, I would have pulled the car over. Now like I said this is just my opinion. Another thing is how the miami officer responded. His excuse that the school is high end and important people go there. That doesn't fly. Reason, for the most part, it makes it sound as if there is 24 hr protection by miami pd there and if so, just like in all of our respective services, if someone is late, someone gets held over, that's just the case. The other thing is, this trooper made a judgement call, and by everyone from her superiors to other LE to the general public, questioning her judgement, not only does that place a doubt on this incident, but it places doubt on any other case she may have, or will work in the past or the future. When you start questioning judgement, you leave room for a perp to escape the law. Now how many in LE would want to see even one perp get cut loose over this? I understand the fellow officer thing, its pretty much the same in public safety all around but if its going to do more harm than good? and as for the comment she made that this wasn';t the first time and that this same car does this all of the time, who's to say she hadn't previously gone thru channels and called the car in to her superiors or maybe even have called said department, just to see the guy do the same thing again and again? maybe she just got sick and tired of her complaints falling on deaf ears. my point is simply this, none of us were there, as well as none of those pointing fingers were either. The only true people who know what was really going on, or what was going thru their minds were the ones involved and all the finger pointers, myself included, weren't there and are just monday morning quarterbacking this incident. In closing, and once again in thr troopers defense. From the miami officers manner of driving, by her making that stop, she may have saved someone, including that cop from being in a wreck and dying 5 miles down the road. and now that this guy is on the radar, maybe he will change his driving habits, so in the long run, by doing what she did. this trooper may have saved a life. as i said, i'm not a leo, i'm just a civilian, but this is just my opinion. joe
  16. there used to be pictures of all you old timers hanging up in the break room at st agnes aka st agony-lol. i like the fact i just got to call someone an old timer, as i am quite the dinosaur myself-lol. i even have a picture of Kat Mitchell and her old partner ifo an old A-1 bus somewhere in this house, I'll have to try and find it. Plus if I remember, there was A-1, Freedom and a few others back in the day. I was working in CT for awhile before I crossed the border, then came over and worked for CMTI for awhile before coming home to the old Westchester Ambulance. I say came home, not because I used to work there, but because I used to work the CT branches of Danbury and Nelson. Man do I miss all you guys!!!! Joe

  18. i worked WEMS from when they first started until Feb. 12, 2002. This was when Doug and Billy Dawson were road supervisors. Now some of the other medics I worked with are supervisors themselves and some went the supervisor route and went back to being road medics (probably not worth the aggravation- who knows) Anyway there were 3 medics back then just as there are now and the supervisor had an extra flycar (was a dodge ram pick up back then which was actually painted to the WEMS colors after being bought in "baywatch yellow" WAS967 will remember that, as well as the champagne toast)When resources would run low or if a unit needed a hand, the supervisor would respond to that particular scene. While it's been awhile and I'm sure the call volumes have risen, I still think the 3 flycar system with that 4th unit being able to get out there can work. WEMS used to use system status management and they did it pretty effectively back then. I'm not sure who else on the board may work up here in CT in "The Valley" or if Will Pendleton is even on this board, but he's be able to tell you guys. Here in CT we have a service called VEMS (Valley EMS) which is a flycar system that is independent, but run through Griffin Hospital in Derby. They have 3 flycars out there covering jobs all day long and two supervisors that can be called into service as an ALS unit at any given moment. That system works and it works very well. Hardly ever do they have to go to mutual aid now. Back in the old days, before the "new VEMS" at night, units from AMR Bridgeport would constantly get called in for coverage, but the system was gone over and changes were made. Maybe that's what needs to be done here if there is a constant need for mutual aid medics. But from what I'm reading, that's not the story. The other thing is, and the Villages and Towns need to realize this, if you need and want another unit out there, it's going to cost money, so if you want it or even if you need it, you have to be prepared to pay for it. As for the medics being professional, etc. They were back then, they most likely are now and will be in the future. WEMS handpicked their medics when they started. They were the best of the best, They hired people from all over just to provide the best that money could buy. Being a WEMS medic wasn't just a job, it was an honor. I'm sure that the guys working the road now feel that way now, just as we felt back then. Joe
  19. while some may look at this as nothing more than an officer speeding to get somewhere, I'm quite sorry, that is not the case. while not a LEO, I am sure everyone will agree this guy placed quite a few peoples lives in danger - the trooper, his owm but more importantly the plain ole citizens he is sworn to protect and serve. The other thing that rubs me very wrong is that if you listen to the end of the video, you can hear the trooper state very clearly that this is not the first time and it almost sounds as if they were waiting for this to happen again. If you ask me, stuff like this casts all cops in a bad light. you know why?, I'll tell you why and even though after I left EMS, I worked for media for a bit, and still do a bunch of news departments radios, I feel like this. Stuff like this gets a lot of media hype, the friggin story was on CNN for Gods sake. As well as ABC nationally and a whole bunch of others. This sensationalism, tends to paint cops in a bad light, just like you will find tons of negative stories out there about the fire service and ems. Unfortunately, the public loves dirty laundry and those bad stories and TV, radio, and even newspapers (what's left of them)are businesses and like every other business, they are out there to make money so while the majority of the public loves watching this stuff, they give the public what they want. The advertisers pay money to these entities in hopes for return and face it the more people viewing the more people who see their ads, the more people who see their ads, the more people who buy their stuff. It's sad, but that's the way it works. Personally, I'd rather turn on my TV or radio or open my paper and see a story about a cop or firefighter saving a person or a baby from a burning building but chances are, unless there is actual dramatic video of the event, it's not gonna show up out there. Same goes for EMS, that code save? while you beat quite the odds, unless it's someone famous, it's not going to be known about anywhere but within our own circles. I think it's sad, but unfortunately that's the way it is, and it is sad because the more negative stories, the more negative impact on the views of the general public and until we grab the bull by the horns and start shoving the good things done out there every day down the medias throat and they start putting more good out there than bad.....the publics view about public safety in general is not going to change. Trust me, I pitched the idea during the storm about doing something to show how well prepared various FD's and EMS agencies were as well as how they were helping people but not one single place picked up on it, but I'll bet the farm that if someone screwed up or someone boxed because of a mishap during that same storm they would have been all over it. Stay Safe out there brothers.
  20. just got a post on facebook from lo-hud. not only did the snow swamp emergency services but according to the story county pd lost power too. that had to suck. where was their generator?
  21. Any chance that this truck may have been donated to a mexican department or bought at auction and shipped down there? I must say people trying to get into this country are becoming more and more creative. The border patrol was on their toes for this one
  22. supposedly this is happening in alot of places. guess we should start chaining up the tailgates now http://autos.aol.com/photos/truck-tailgate-theft/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl9%7Csec1_lnk3%7C106823
  23. it's "jiggawatt" and the car has to hit exactly 85 mph for it to be totally effective. Just ask "Doc" Brown and he'll confirm.
