I have no problems with the device. Use the device AND get out if possible!

It all depends on the physical plant. In my town, the Elementary school is 1 story, the Middle school is 3, and the High school is 2. If you are on the first floor or can safely make it to a first floor and get out, I'd do so.

I see no sense in waiting to die huddled up in a closet, unless that is the only option.

MLSS have been great with regards to responses. They have a rig at the old TOMVAC building, with provides fast response for both Marlboro and Milton. I work in town, and when they are dispatched, they are on the road in seconds and on scene as fast as they can safely drive. No complaints here.

TOMVAC closed down 3 to 4 years ago due to declining membership and not being able to cover the increased call volume. Mobile Life covers the town now.. We have 18 hours of in town ALS coverage, and the other 6 hours are the "slowest" call volume covered by Mobile Life the next town over. It has worked out well. While it is sad for the organization to shudder itself, they chose to go out honorably by admitting they could not provide the coverage that was expected, instead of limping along providing a shell of coverage.

One of the more ridiculous posts I've seen on here in a long time. Many others have beaten the horse to death- if you are relying on a bunch of high school kids for your first alarm assignment, you have big problems. I started back in the day as an 18 year old with 6 months of high school left to go. My department had no "junior" members and therefore no special rules. Small town, everyone knew me for many years, it was left to my discretion, my parents didn't put any limitations on me, and I graduated with high honors from high school. Fast forward 35+ years, I have my own son who is a 17 year old junior member where we live now. Just finishing FF1 this week. Given the chance, he'd be running on every call he could grab. I as his father have placed limitations on what he is allowed to respond to, and that generally means he goes to NOTHING on school nights once he goes toes up in bed (I still go, but without him). No one in previous posts has mentioned the parental element in this discussion. As a parent of a minor, I make the decisions for my son, not the fire district and not the school when it comes to this topic. He can make all the weekend calls he wants, but if I find out he left school for an alarm, or took his pager to school, that's the end of it.

    Amen, Barry!
Sadly, FASNY's misguided priorities (blue lights, dumbing-down training standards, etc.) only hold us back. The volunteer fire service needs to understand that FASNY and the attitude they represent do nothing to increasing firefighter safety. And it is unrealistic for the volunteer fire service in NY to get the respect that so many want as long as we have training "apartheid"!

Great truck. It is a MK 48 primer mover with a MK 15 wrecker body on it.. The USMC used them. It articulates in the middle, and you can put a few different versions of body's (trailers actually) on it. Painting over the CARC paint is a PITA. The best way to do it is sand blast, prime and paint it, but that is a HUGE undertaking with a truck this size, even when you separate the front from the rear. And if you do, don't drive more than 2MPH or else it will tip.

How long would it take to get the NYANG to get them into FD hands? Minutes, hours, days?

Instead of I Am Responding, check out Spotted Dog. Much better program, and it does much more. We had IAR and dumped it after 2 years for SD and never looked back. Jason Fisch is a guy who does SD, and also a FF in the Hudson valley.

LOL.....Motorola is a global company. They measure high demand in millions, not thousands.
Also, how much money can they make selling something that is already out there in "high use". Much more money if everyone has to drop the existing system and start over.
