  1. The Dikeman Engine and Hose Company of Goshen is proud to launch our new website. A few things still need to be done but please feel free to visit and let us know what you think. www.dikemans.org
  2. Ah 21 Truck, the pride of Hell's Kitchen.
  3. At least in Orange it is pretty much up to the department to make their designation of Tanker or Engine. Monroe 537 and Lakeside 535 are good examples of pumper tankers that are called Engines. Both units have 2000GPM pumps and carry 2500+ gallons of water. On the contrary, Suffern in Rockland runs two seemingly identical 1250 GPM pumpers. I'm not sure of the tank size but looking at them they are probably no more than 1250 or 1500 gallons max. I don't know much about their operations and maybe someone from Rockland can fill us in but I imagine that the two pieces of equipment has different duties. Engine? Tanker?
  4. Very cool piece of equipment. It will certainly be a great asset. Now Orange County just needs to get one and we'll be in business. I was just wondering, is this aircraft going to be used for medivacs now?
  5. I currently live in Buffalo and yes the storm really did catch most people offguard. The problem wasn't necessarily the volume of snow, it just had terrible timing. Since most all of the trees still had a full set of leaves on them, when the snow fell they couldn't hold the weight. The result was a lot of them literally snapped in half and fell on power lines. That is why 300,000 cutomers were without power and I hear they might not be restored untill Tuesday at the earliest. Here are some pictures taken by my friend and I:
  6. In Goshen (Orange County) we cover a good stretch of Rt 17. Our normal response for an MVA is 1 engine, 1 heavy rescue,1 tanker and the fire police van The tanker is mostly used for scene protection but the engine can also assume that role as well. If the incident is larger or a car fire we respond the 2nd tanker, engine and light duty rescue. If necessary basically we roll everything but the ladder truck.

  8. You didn't know that guy had Nomex jeans on? I hear the work really well too because all the chiefs in my area wear them all the time.

  10. After looking at his site, Engines 131 and 134 are also Pierce Arrows.
  11. Monroe in Orange County carries battery powered cutter/spreaders on Engine 543. One member once told me they came in handy at a structure fire in the back of a property where they had to cut a fence to gain better access for lines and equipment.
  12. It might be a little far from Westchester, but DUFFS in Buffalo is hands down the best wings anywhere. If you are ever in the area I highly recommend it! They also serve their own beer called DUFFS beer! What can be better than that?
  13. I agree that Pierce makes the best apparatus out there today. 15. I love Made in America, it is one of my most favorite shows on TV. I saw all of those episodes you mentioned. The Hurst one was really neat and I look forward to seeing that one on E-One.
