  1. This is exactly my thoughts. My previous house, and the one I currently live in(a subdevelopment) all have buried power, but it's the 13KV outside that is feeding this, that usually is where the failure occurs.
  2. So how did everyone do....
  3. If your talking about the department which I think you are, they can't talk to 60 control on the fire channel. The radios are programmed to only have fireground abilities, along with a couple other channels.
  4. Another question. Were there really no Vista Officers on scene? There does not appear to be any from the IA.
  5. Oh no. An unprofessional ambulance.
  6. By looking at the picture that ALS posted above, I would absolutely disagree with you, but that's your opinion and your entitled to it. I think that from the perspective of someone not affiliated with the dept, i.e. the public, this is a great way to start a conversation with someone that may be walking past the firehouse, or someone you see on a call. Truely a great PR piece, as Peekskill and White Plains, along with others are showing. The article about WPFD proves it. Pics of many other professional dept's going pink, courtesy of the IAFF website.
  7. I know a bunch of career depts that had shirts made for this month, with the dept logo/union logo on the front, and the FD name on the back, but in black font, and they can wear it on shift.
  8. What do you guys constitute as an "experienced interior firefighter"? The reason I ask is because I personally know of a few people in a department, that have been interior for less than 3 years, have not actually been inside a working fire, but have all the required training, and are on the FASTeam. Would you trust them?
  9. But just remember, someone thought of the idea and is most definitely profiting off of it.
  10. Hopefully I never see him But really, Right place, at the right time, and doing the right thing. Kudos to him!
  11. Citywide's Brochure for the Luxury truck. http://www.citywideambulance.com/Citywide%20Luxury%20Brochure.pdf Notice how on the side of the rig, above the citywide name, it says "Presidential Series" Pretty cool idea, and with all of the hot-shots in NYC, probably will have a pretty good draw if any of them get sick.
  12. I see a guy on a quad on the road, and thats about it. According to the Emergency response guide, initial evacuation zone is 1/2 mile. "For massive fire, use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles; if this is impossible, withdraw from area and let fire burn."
  13. Well in this case, I am incorrect about the drive time from YHQ. But Croton Ave(of which I live off of), Hunterbrook Road, and Baptist Church Road are not single lane roads(only around one blind corner), and I have seen many a LMFD engine drive on, when either responding around the reservoir, or going to a crash at the bottom of Croton Ave and Baptist Church Road.(very steep hill). But I am going to leave it at this. We could argue this element all day, and I just would prefer not to.
  14. Again, I don't mean to harm, or put anyone off.
  15. Having Fire Commissioners in a combo department that are also Ex-Volunteer Chiefs of that same department... Talk about conflict of interest... Hire more career firefighters because they are short-staffed, but that in turn takes away from what you do in your spare time, and what many of your friends do. Think that's not a problem?
  16. Chief Flynn, I wholeheartedly agree with you. A Bread and Butter fire takes an extraordinary response from the Northern Westchester Departments. What if there were 2 fires in adjoining departments? At this fire, manpower was, maybe not drained, but was utilized, from seven departments. That is an amazing number. Think about the response times this takes. It took the FASTeam 28 minutes to get on scene, and that is a bordering department. Doesn't seem to be a very "FAST"eam response. When the members were operating inside, during the "mini-collape", was the FASTeam on location? Was there an acting FASTeam, as I know Yorktown has one? If there were a larger pool of people to pull from, I think these numbers would be significantly smaller, and everyone's lives would be safer. But everyone wants their fiefdoms, C'est la vie.
  17. The saying is on a lot of the electric overhead roadway signs.
  18. Johnny, I totally believe you, don't worry. If the big flashing lights don't get your attention, the chevrons sure as s%*t won't. But back to topic, Hope this guy gets locked up for a while, and I hope the crew is safe and ok.
  19. 69B2 was replaced 2 years ago. It is a Lifeline, but year I am unsure of. 2009 I believe.
  20. Doesn't have 3G. One major thing the Ipad has over this. Can't be connected everywhere.
  21. Looks like a good idea. As long as the elevators work...
