  1. It is "residency preferred". Residency in the department area, not just in the County. Most departments will attempt to exhaust their residency lists before going to the County list. This past list several departments did make it past residency to the County list.

I do understand that much, but I meant are only Dutchess Residents are eligible to take the test?

  2. The trough is not deep enough to save you with most subway cars and not deep enough on any MNRR cars as there is a the cow catcher and signal equipment mounted to the under carriage that hangs too low.

MNRR mounting gate on the platform would be problematic as there are four different door configurations on the various cars. M2/4/6 and M3s is one, M7 and 8's is the second, and bom's with and with out the center door.

No matter what you do there will be people oblivious to the hazards of the platform. Those with cellphones, headphones, and the one's with their head up their you know where generally beyond help.

The perfect example was today where a woman boarded my train limited stop Croton Harmon express train @ 125 wanting to go to Ludlow. While I made numerous announcements the stops the train makes (Ludlow not being one of them), she didn't hear any of it because of her head phones. All she saw was an M7 that said Croton Harmon and assumed the train makes all the stops. Once I approached her for her ticket I explained the train does not stop there and she acted as if it was my fault she got on the wrong train.

We are not talking about MNRR, or LIRR, but the NYC subway. There also is no cow catcher on subway cars. But, the platform creates a ledge(by law) that you can fit into if you are small enough...

Ten of 24 Westchester County fire districts that reported their budget intentions to the state comptroller indicated they may exceed the 2 percent annual cap on the property-tax levy, but not all of them will do so.

Meanwhile, none of the fire districts in Putnam and Rockland counties that reported to Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli by Nov. 29 said they intended to override the cap. Not all fire district data had been reported to the Comptroller’s Office as of that date, DiNapoli spokesman Brian Butry said.

Time for the C word to come out??? This is not a surprise to us that duplication is rampant in Westchester, but hopefully some reporting(if you can call it that) may bring this to the public.

  4. If you worked FDNY EMS you would understand everything over the rank of Captain needs a major overhaul. With the exception of a handful of Chiefs our " management" is a joke. Not to mention Chief Nahmod was nowhere to be found during the storm, and the Chiefs under his command ordered units to stay in evac zones ( not at stations as the fire commissioner said) thus putting their lives in danger. and delaying care to patients. Why wouldn't that warrant replacement? If someone died would that suffice? 4 EMS stations alone in Manhattan were evacuated with no planning and no preparation. Also illegal drug transfers( narcotics)/ tour changes were handled on street corners in the middle of Manhattan. As NYCMEDIC pointed out there is a picture ( which I have seen) where a Chief was being carried in a stair chair by her subordinates in flooded conditions.

There will also be a news report on channel 2 at 6pm this evening, I'm not sure what it's covering but it's about EMS during Sandy.

I guess I spoke too soon, and didn't have a clear statement when I replied.

  5. I'm willing to guess that the old man pictured in the wheelchair didn't have a way to evacuate. And he did "shut up," as he is now deceased.

An excert from the alert from the National Weather Service.

    1. IF YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO EVACUATE A COASTAL LOCATION BY STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS, PLEASE DO SO.

    2. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT TO EVACUATE, AND YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO RODE OUT THE '62 STORM ON THE BARRIER ISLANDS, ASK THEM IF THEY COULD DO IT AGAIN.

    3. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT, THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH YOU WHEN YOU MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED, THINK ABOUT THE RESCUE/RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR RECOVER YOUR REMAINS IF YOU DO NOT SURVIVE.

    4. SANDY IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM. THERE WILL BE MAJOR PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURIES ARE PROBABLY UNAVOIDABLE, BUT THE GOAL IS ZERO FATALITIES.

    5. IF YOU THINK THE STORM IS OVER-HYPED AND EXAGGERATED, PLEASE ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION.

WE WISH EVERYONE IN HARMS WAY ALL THE BEST. STAY SAFE!"

Pretty much sums it up. An absolutely terrible situation, but they only have themselves to blame.

PEEKSKILL — A well-respected, four-year member of the Peekskill Police Department was killed in a car accident Sunday night in Goshen that also claimed the life of another woman, Peekskill Chief Eugene Tumolo said today.
