Just a couple of tool suggestions Mark. First I would remove the red colored prying tool that is mounted on the right side in one of the compartments (its fork is poorly designed ... too straight and too thick) and replace it with a Fire Hooks Unltd. 30" Pro Bar:

I would also suggest adding a griphoist as well as several sizes of fabric and cable slings for moving heavy loads (much stronger than a basic come along - excellent for rescue work).

Avoid varnishing the cribbing, it can become slick when wet which can result in the load slipping.
Use caution when adding storage ontop of the rig so as not to make it top heavy which can be a vehicle handling hazard.
Be mindful of the weight of any new / additional equipment that you add to the rig as it can affect the unit's braking ability.
Best of luck with the refurb!

He did a tremendous amount for Putnam County Fire and EMS. He fought long and hard. I hope that the heavens bring him plenty of joy and that the end of his pain brings some relief to his three sons and his wife. He was a fireman in 45 truck, and retired as a Lt in Ladder 31 which during his time found him being first due truck to the Happy Land fire among many other notable fires and events. All three of his kids followed his footsteps and I am sure are proud of his accomplishments.

Bob was an F.D.N.Y. Brother, a fellow Chief in the volunteer fire service in Putnam County, a fellow fire instructor and most of all a great friend and mentor to members of the fire service. I will miss him. Rest in peace my Brother, thank you for your friendship as well as for all that you did for the fire service.

Coming soon to a Kindle near you: "Hurt Feelings on the Fire Floor" a novel co-authored by folks who have gotten on the job via court order rather than merit ... So sad.

FAST, RIT, MAT, 2-OUT, RESCUE TEAM, OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT MUST BE IN PLACE WHENEVER THERE ARE MEMBERS IN AN ILDH.
That's not my opinion, it's OSHA's and it's the law. You are not allowed to put your RIT to work without replacing them with another RIT first. OSHA doesn't particularly care exactly how you accomplish this but they are sticklers on that you accomplish this with no gaps.
This tip might help you as to what should be established on the fireground:
Years ago I learned the "20 minute rule." If on arrival you expect members to be operating for more than 20 minutes to gain complete control of the fire, you must call for more resources. why 20 minutes? Because that's how long an air pack lasts.
Its' not rocket science(although there are times you do need rocket science). It's more like baseball. You need 9 players on the field plus guys on the bench that can go in at any time AND play the position they are going in to fill.

No matter how many times the topic of provision of FAST is discussed in these forums, I still see many who seem to believe that FAST must be provided by a special 'team' (like haz mat, tech rescue or fire investigation). Like it or not, FAST is part of every firefighter's duties. Any engine, truck, rescue company or squad must be fully capable of being assigned as the FAST when arriving at an incident and functioning in that role should a firefighter get into trouble and require immediate assistance. This training should be part of the process of becoming certified as a firefighter.

"Westchester" it is true what you say. And you make a good point, it doesn't matter if it's in the firehouse in NYC or the volunteer monthly meeting for the fire or EMS group. And as the saying goes: "Whatever you say can and will be used against you in a court of law".
I recently visited a career fire house in a large city in Connecticut. My brother once worked in that firehouse and I remember going there when everybody was talking and joking at the kitchen table. And in between that talking and joking, they were flowing water on fires whether it was a car fire, a rubbish fire or a three frame. They were a tight group of individuals. I went to that same firehouse last year. Sat at that same kitchen table and other than my buddy talking to me, no buddy else said anything.
It's really sad how things have changed over the years. I'm just glad that I was a part of it when things were GREAT. And through no fault of their own, most guys today will never really understand what we are talking about.
