If it ever comes to NY, Cuomo will limit it to 7 sections of the skids and you won't be able to buy the interchangeable attachments.
But until then it makes a great stocking stuffer

Remember "Freedom isn't free" It is paid for by the blood of our veterans. We often attribute this to those who have died in the line of duty. But also remember those who have have spilled blood and survived. Many of our veterans not only have to live with the death of their comrades but also a part of them died in the battlefield. Then they have to come back to a changing world that does not appreciate their sacrifice.
I think the popular quote says it best "Some gave all but all gave some".
I know its not politically correct but say a prayer that all our serviceman and women come home safely.

This situation is a disgrace. The handling and management of resources in The Village of Lachmont is hollow. They are a career dept., which is understaffed. They have few volunteers and they've spent decades reducing the relevance and responsibility of that outfit. So, what you're left with, as with many of the local "combo" fire departments, is an illusion of safety. It's a great big gamble that the politicians typically win. Luck eventually runs out.
What has happened, twice, recently in Larchmont is an indicative of 2 problems:
    1) Many FD's in Westchester lack any semblance of adequate staffing. This is a problem that some have tried to address through a regional consolidation plan....but no one has the stones to see it through, not to mention the fact that many are entrenched in guarding their own little fiefdom...
    2) In this example, in this municipality, it appears that a serious lack of judgement was made. The residents of Larchmont pay some of the highest taxes in the NATION and they should expect the fire protection they pay for. What? Everyone was just so excited to go Yonkers they shut the lights and call the TMFD? This is gross-negligence in management. If someone died in a house fire in Larchmont, I would expect the LFD chief to go to jail. The LFD's first responsibility is to the residents of Larchmont. Mx aide is important to give and receive, but if you can't continue to perform your primary duties, you can't perform them for another municipality.

If there was a fire who were they going to call-Ghostbusters?
Larchmont was not understaffed, it was closed for the night as no one was left behind to cover the district. If volunteers responded to HQ, there would have been no one to operate the equipment as the 3 Career FF on duty took off, asking the Town of Mamaroneck to standby in the TMFD quarters with 1 and 1.

I think Larchmont just has the mentality "The Town Of Mamaroneck will cover us". What if they have their own calls to cover? I can't imagine the Town is OK with this.
What happens if somebody is trapped in a fire in Larchmont? How will they justify sending all their career firefighters, the only ones who can drive Larchmont apparatus, to cover a firehouse in Yonkers? In effect, they took the entire department out of service to go mutual aid to standby for another department that's not even nearby. How will they explain that to the residents? I hope Larchmont comes up with a better plan for next time.

The Volunteers in Larchmont are not permitted to drive other than thier rescue.

Looks cool, but I'll bet it wouldn't clear a lot of railroad bridges in my area. Do step stools/ little Giants come standard?
The ladders and soft suction look like they could be a real joy to takedown/ replace. Would probably need the technical rescue equipment to do this.
Just kidding but to the Volvo team good luck with the vehicle.

I remember the 5 liter mustangs. For some reason they seems that they were always assigned to a 6'4 or larger trooper.

Too many people complained about them so their use was discontinued in many communities.
As a result, they have been allowed to rot and mostly have rusted to the point that they are useless except for bird houses.
When I was a kid, the fire department blew the horns/sirens at 8 am and 6pm. The commuters knew if they heard the siren that they had to run to make the train. If us kids heard the 6pm siren, we knew it was time to go home for dinner. Now we have to rely on our cell phones.

You would think that the equipment manufactures would step up to the plate seeing a potential increase in sales. They could engineer a standard multiuse urban response vehicle. That will with a little modification prior to responding, be used as a command post, rehab site, portable victim/patient shelter, SNF transport or a MCI response vehicle (mobile ER, transport ect). This would simply the grant process and actually give the taxpayers a vehicle that would support not only the members of the emergency services but the taxpayers themselves in a time of emergency.
