  1. Florida fd has taken delivery of a kme fire police unit on a ford f series chassis. Pic on kme's featured delivery page
  2. Officer is in a medically induced coma, critical but stable. Suspect is in custody
  3. I think it's less that they can call the truck a tanker and more that it makes it easier to differentiate apparatus on the radio. In Rockland, engines are numbered by the pump size. For example Thiells has 26-1500, which is an engine with a 1500 gpm pump. However, when a department has multiple engines with the same size pump, they just add 1 to the previous engine, i.e. Thiells second engine is 26-1501. Now if you're a chief of a department with multiple engines with the same size pump, and you're trying to keep track of of apparatus on the radio, it's probably pretty easy to mix up between 26-1500, 26-1501, or 26-1502, and theoretically, that could go on for as many engines as you had. Therefore, most departments in Rockland designate an engine a tanker whether or not it is a tanker, because 26-tanker is not likely gonna get confused as 26-150x unit. At least that's how I always understood it.

  9. I don't know if this is the right section for this, but I have a question the polygraphs used in the employment process for federal law enforcement agencies. A couple of years ago while in college I went to an FBI special agent information session. The speaker told us if the FBI were to find something on your polygraph, they could and would take it to your current agency, if you're already a cop, and get you fired, or send it to other law enforcement agencies you apply for to prevent you from getting hired. The example he used was a law enforcement official who at some point in his life had abused a child, but their was no record of it at all, so they told the applicant's current police department and got him fired. Now obviously I'm not talking about if you go into the polygraph and admit to killing 10 people, but if you take a polygraph for employment with a federal agency and for whatever reason your results indicate deception on a question such as, using the example above, child abuse, will they really use that information to get you fired/ prevent you from getting hired anywhere else? Also, if your current agency/the agency you are applying to doesn't use polygraphs (NYSP, NYPD, etc.) can the agency you are employed by or applying to use that information since it's not part of the process for any other employee within the agency?
  10. I've heard rumors that the Wallkill supervisor wants mobile life back. I can see one agency dumping a bunch of trucks into Wallkill, taking all the calls, and then once the other two services are forced to close or leave the area cause it's not worth it, the first service can the cut down the number of trucks in the area, and you're right back to where you started. and no I'm not talking about one service in particular, it's just an observation. I think the supervisor is deluding himself a bit when he says it's the future of the county. There are still parts of the county where the bls is still a volunteer corps that goes to every call doesn't charge,so imagine a tax payers response if they get a for-profit agency who transports them and then dumps them with a bill, and then they're still paying the tax for the local ambulance corps. That's one of the reasons Florida FD just sit down their ambulance two months ago.
  11. there are several differences between these two scanners first is that the BCD536HP has a built in database, so you can just plug in you zip code to start scanning, or you can program it yourself. The BCD996P2 requires you to program it yourself. Second, the 536hp is a TrunkTracker V scanner, meaning it can scan APCO Project 25 Phase I and Phase II, X2-TDMA, Motorola, EDACS, and LTR Trunked Radio Systems. The 996P2 is only a TrunkTracker IV scanner, so it can't scan X2-TDMA systems. Finally, the 536HP will hopefully have a WiFi feature one day like was promised at launch, and the 996P2 won't. Basically, the BCD536HP was an attempt to combine the home patrol and the BCD996XTwith a WiFi feature, which did not work out well, where as the BCD996P2 is just an update of the BCD996XT to allow for P25 phase 2 system scanning.
  12. Heard a test for EMstar EMS on the Orange County EMS paging channel by Orange 911 earlier tonight, and then later heard them paged for an ALS assist to Greenwood Lake. Are they dropping their dispatch or something? I know with Walkill EMS going ALS, they now really only cover the three agencies in the town of Warwick (Warwick, Greenwood Lake, and Pine Island) as an ALS provider, but they also have operations in Rockland and elsewhere, so it would seem a little odd that they're dropping their dispatchers for the area.
  13. I am aware of that and that's why I thought it was weird that I heard them paging Emstar via the ems paging channel. Normally they just dispatch on whatever their primary channel is
  14. Pretty sure it's Orange 911 dispatching them, they just got paged again for a mutual aid to Goshen/mobile life.
  15. Monroe took delivery of Truck 537 http://instagram.com/p/xfnoqjSAH8/
  16. Do you mean command tactical unit (CTU) or tactical support unit (TSU)? The only TCUs I've ever heard about with the FDNY are the tactical control unit in Report from engine co.82.
  17. They are similar but not the same. Haz-Mat 1's second piece has 4 compartments on either side of the body, these new haz-mat rigs have three compartments, and Haz-Mat 1's second piece has a roll up door on the rear cabinet and the new rigs have swinging doors. There are four of these Haz-Mat rigs in production on Ferrara's website. http://www.ferrarafire.com/CustomerSupport/InProduction/InProduction.html
  18. And these are the Haz-Mat rescues we were talking about.
  19. So the squads are going to be three piece companies with a haz-mat rescue, a rescue engine, and one of the medium rescues that Ferrara just completed? http://www.ferrarafire.com/NewDeliveries/Pages/rescues/5489.html
  20. As of 1800 hours today, Florida EMS will be shut down with Warwick EMS taking the village of Florida and the town of Warwick, Goshen EMS taking the town of Goshen, and Mobile Life taking Valley View. Warwick EMS has bought all the EMS equipment and ambulance from FFD, and once the rigs are re-lettered and the state certifies them, Warwick will be running station 2 with two BLS units out of the Florida fire house until a new bay can be constructed in that district can be constructed.
  21. I thought I heard they were going to be assigned to the hazmat engines as a second piece.
  22. Doesn't it have a Metz look because it is a Metz ariel?
  23. Unfortunately not surprising with today's drop in the rate of volunteering, I know of one department in the same area that doesn't even have enough total certified drivers for all their apparatus. Two questions though, did they ever have 195 members, or is that what their state maximum is and they're only at half. Secondly, why is the state limiting how many members a fire company/fire department can have?
