I notice fewer & fewer people using the "Like This" button, now of course everyone is not going to "Like" everything but consider the contribution the person made to the topic.
As an example if a person creates an "Incident Alert" and they really take the time to put some details in the story please consider giving them some credit. I have seen some people who no longer post them because it appears no one cares.
If people post some photos of an incident and you like them let them know by hitting that "Like" button.
Good conversation started or comments you agree with in a topic give them some credit hit the button.
    Just my opinion

I'm not generally a rear mount tower ladder kind of guy, but this is one nice Seagrave rear mount tower ladder, especially since it has the Aerialscope bucket. Wish Seagrave made this in a mid-mount with the full walkway ladder.
This one is serving Laurel, MD, in Prince George's County, and is a 2015 Seagrave Marauder II with a 105' Rear Mount Apollo II Tower Ladder.

Used to be Mohegan Engine 256 or Engine 257. Our own Howard Peiffer , former LMFD and former Palm Coast Chief has been with it since it was born and they moved to Florida together lol.
Not only did it get saved from the scrap heap, but here's the best part.....it's coming back to Lake Mohegan!
I love this style of Ward LaFrance, growing up Hartsdale and Fairview they had them and saw them all the time, and love the look of the cab.
I'm so happy it's getting saved plus going back to it's original home. I wish I could have bought Hartsdale's. These rigs are also a part of New York state history, as they were built in Elmira, NY.

Finally is an interesting way to put replacing a 2001 ladder truck. Look around New England, a 13 or 14 year old truck ain't old. Ours is a 1995 with NO plans of replacement.
Sometimes I wonder about how some people on this board miss reality a bit. They seem to think that money for equipment grows on trees and how we deserve certain kinds of equipment. I deserve a safe working environment. It's up to the taxpayers and the elected officials to decide what to provide me as far as equipment goes. It's the leaderships job to educate them as to how to best spend their money.
As far as saying a dept is finally replacing something that many other departments would be thrilled to have...doesn't quite jive for me with most jurisdiction's financial realities.

A heroic job by the first arriving White Plains PD Officers and FD on rescuing two victims from this fire. Sadly, a baby died in this fire after being rescued and transported to the hospital.

I am glad I could capture the heroism and compassion of the White Plains Police and Fire Departments in this situation.

I arrived shortly after the first line was stretched. I'm sorry for the crappy photo quality, I was actually in the area experimenting with and learning a new lens

The Central Repair Garage is located at the Town Garage, and is responsible for maintaining the entire fleet of the Police department, as well as the enormous fleet of other departments within the Town. They do mostly all work in house, from oil changes to complete motor and transmission rebuilds, striping, body repair and repainting, etc. From small sedans to heavy tandem axle Mack dump and garbage trucks, payloaders, buses, ambulances, police cars, tractors, rescue trucks, you name it, they repair it.
This replaces a 1995 Chevrolet/Chevron which has been disposed of.

Wow, if that isn't an understatement! I know numerous VFD's that run the whole show on far less than that. At $77k/yr I can see how a dept. can go to so many parades without affecting public safety resource, they could buy a parade engine so the real engines could be in quarters!
  17. Billy liked a post in a topic by x635 in Federal Probe: Mahopac FD Mising $5 Million Dollars
I think cutting funding (prematurely, IMHO) for new apparatus and equipment unfairly punishes the Mahopac firefighters as a whole, as well as the community they protect. They still need tools to do their job to properly protect the citizens. Cutting funding for these items also compromises firefighter and EMT safety. Running a fire department and EMS service of that size ain't cheap.
The financial issues are of serious concern. They have failed in their responsibility and trust they have placed in them by the taxpayers to spend the money appropriately, and account for where it is going. A few thousand is one thing, but having $5 million dollars go missing over 10 years and have no one notice, that's a situation that needs deep investigation and serious reform. All the details have yet to be presented, so it's hard to speculate how it actually occurred and who needs to be held accountable for all facets of this. I'm sure we'll find that out in the coming months.
However, until the investigation and forensic accounting is completed, I don't think slashing funding by the town, not replacing a tanker, not maintaining the current fleet, and not maintaining the stations is a smart move and is premature. In the end, it punishes the taxpayers more. Not giving the Mahopac Firefighters and EMT's the equipment they need to do their job just hurts everyone all around. But, these items do need serious oversight by an outside party until everything is back in order. As does how they spend their money and on what. Maybe freezing spending, on things such as social items, would be more wise. For example, $77,000 yearly on parades is a lot of money, and a compromise would show good faith in the meantime. In the end, transparency will be key in regaining taxpayer trust.

Today we remember the horrific events of Sept. 11, 2001 and the lives lost. As a firefighter I share in the sadness and anger of the families of the 343 FDNY members who were murdered. RIP fellas. But there is another part of the story I remember too. With all the grief and anger still felt and with first responders paying a heavy price now for the time spent working at Ground Zero we sometimes overlook the fact that our FDNY brothers, along with the NYPD and PAPD saved over 10,000 people that day, TEN THOUSAND. The heroism and dedication of all of these men and women knows no bounds and the sacrifices, of both the living and of those lost, were not in vain. To all of them I say THANK YOU.

God Bless all of them and God Bless America!!

    Never Forget
