    1) Stockpile spare parts
    2) Warn the City Administration that delays in replacing apparatus will result in long down times and higher costs. Eventually it will mean emergency purchases which do not meet the dept needs and costs more.
    3) Custom manufacture parts. This may be ok for minor components, but ladder parts and other systems can not be done due to safety & liability.

The problem for selling LTI is most of the engineers who designed them left when ALF moved to SC. They all went to Crimson (now renamed Spartan ERV).

No plans. They have not supported us with parts or warranties for a couple of years.

What a shattered success story. It's sad that they bought all these great brands (LTI, etc) to bring into their portfolio, and then ruined them as well. It was going so well for them, I wonder who exactly started them down the wrong path? And it doesn't even look like they even tried to sell the company.
I wonder what plans they have for departments that have warranties and/or need parts and service?

Absolutely ltrob I have also witnessed this so called "self dispatching" policy aka "Buffing" by high ranking Officers. What I don't understand is many times they're from Depts who themselves constantly beat the drum about a lack of manpower; layoffs; closing of Stations and Companies; etc.. etc... Another thing that perplexes me is how can a Dept. who complains to no avail about these ever so important and justified life and death issues can even think about sending their already understaffed Dept. on M/A, especially to a Dept. who refuses to do the same for them. What a f****** Joke the Fire Service in Westchester has become!

I strongly advocate that communities start putting the same price (or higher) on human life that they put on education, road repair, trash pick up, elected community leadership, librarys, law enforcement, etc.. I'd much rather see a county wide career fire, rescue, EMS system (supplimented by volunteers if available) rather than individual volunteer departments with the ever present (potentially life threatening) issue of inability to respond promptly (or at alll) depending upon time of day, day of week, type of call, etc..

I hope the community understands the real issue, they and 4 neighboring communities can not get an ambulance out to save a 4 y/o.
It really is time to regionalize and insure coverage.

I got qualified on our ambulances at 18 "by fire." A call came in for an elderly male with difficulty breathing. We had an EMT, just no driver, so I drove. At the time I was driving a tow truck, and the patient was the father/Grandfather of members in our FD.
Similarly, I joined another VAC a couple years later. There, they refused to let me drive despite the fact I was a qualified driver on our ambulances, my Engine, Tanker, Rescue and Ladder Truck. The reason; "We have enough drivers." I was qualified when we had an MCI and nobody showed up for the third Ambulance.
If you can be an EMT at 18 and work for a commercial service where you drive, then there is absolutely no reason why a VAC shouldn't allow you to drive too.

And you wonder why you can't get people to volunteer. Its BS like that.

that sad.tarrytown only gets 451.000 and the village gets district money from greenburgh so its almost a wash at the end its almost a free service to the people who live in tarrytown.and out of that comes all building and truck maintenance and all equipment for firefighting.and the village still says its to much?

What is wrong with having two helicopters, or three or four? What would happen if it was grounded due to maintenance? Redundancy keeps the machine going. There may be plenty of equipment on standby(i.e. METU, or the USART trailer), no other equipment, works every day for the Tri-County area.

There are 2. Both were obtained through grants, do not blame them, blame the US Government for the way they do things. The 3rd bird is around in pieces. They did not cost the County anything for the actual birds.

Great! So now the ETA to get off the ground won't be 45 minutes anymore? Oh, wait...

    Thanks for the confirmation.
It's remarkable, given the post you made over the summer regarding the (lack of) availability of the pilots because the county is concerned with OT being out of control, and yet the county can find $9 million to spend within the last 8 years for two fully equipped, state-of-the-art helicopters.
I'm not hating on the PD or the aviation unit, so don't anybody get it twisted. I actually think it's fantastic that they're so well equipped, and I know they keep very busy, so this isn't a case of some outfit buying a very expensive piece of equipment that will only get used a handful of times a year at most. More power to them for managing to pull of getting two of these 407's...I only hope they staff them properly so that when their services are requested, they can actually have a crew to operate them.

Budgets are deceiving. You're talking about Operating Budgets - what about Capital Projects and their related costs?
We are a municipal fire department, funded by the Village of Croton-on-Hudson ($532,213.00 for 2013/2014). We provide services to the Mount Airy/Quaker Bridge Fire Protection Districts within the Town of Cortlandt for about $262,572.00 per year. Our "operating budget" shows a line for Workers Compensation of $79,268.00.
So in essence, we have a budget to work with of $452,945.00. Since the Town of Cortlandt give the Village $262,572.00 each year, we really only cost the Village $190,373.00. If you look at it this way, we are only 1% of the Village's expenses per year (a budget of over $18M).
This is basically our Village giving about $200,000 of Village Tax money to us to run a department of about 150 members, averaging 17 members per incident, staffing six apparatus, three command units, two boats & using three stations.
I'd say we're a pretty good bang for our buck.
