i got a 96 test #2000 and am sitting at 12735 on the list.. i haven't gotten called for the physical. i already work for FDNY EMS so im just waiting on the promotional to come back out next year or two

Very Nice looking truck. Looks very similar to the Boss Trucks on My job in the city....I normally wouldn't chime in here but I must say, (with all due respect to the EMTs and Paramedics at Empress, some of whom I've had to pleasure of working with), Yonkers Fire should take over EMS. Both because of citizen safety and Firefighter safety. Speaking of the budget, it would be beneficial for the City of Yonkers Fire to control EMS because then the City would recieve the money from EMS runs. Also, incident command wise and for possible expansion of the Department's Capabilities, it would make sense. Most Career Departments around the country are Fire Based EMS systems. Also for those who believe The PD side should control EMS, I call BS because PD is a Patrol agency, FD is a Responder Agency, FD has more capability to handle the Tiered Response. Lastly but not least, to the Senor Brother Firefighters who don't want the Buses in Quarters with them, thats fine, Just because Fire takes over EMS Doesnt mean the buses need to be in quarters with them. There's other reasons, but I think I've done enough ranting here. All I'm saying is Yonkers Fire should take a look at the way the Brothers just south of them operate.....just my 2 cents Thank You.

Right off the bat I can see ways the vulcans will claim racism, it's cheaper to file online, and the test is computer based, they will just say that minorities don't have the same access to computers as white applicants. They did get a bone of sorts thrown to them though, as the computer test will include some video and picture questions to make it fair. This was done after the vulcans claimed that reading wasn't important for our job and that the emphasis on reading comprehension was racist. I suppose once these people who can't read get on the job the bosses will have to read the department orders and regulations aloud to them, or maybe the job will just release them as books on tape. Absurd, good luck everybody

...on a side note...has anyone seen the recruitment ads or online video? Fairly...uh, biased, no? Just an FYI; i went through proby school with a couple of people from the recruitment poster and they resigned under threat of termination and had to come back for the next academy class and repeat the entire program before getting through. Maybe if these folks put more effort into being good firefighters and less effort into being part of a one sided, loud mouthed, racist group they'd have less trouble actually performing the tasks demanded of them.

10 Days for FFI & FFII...................... Thats the same certifications that the career accademy takes 60 Days to get (yes they get a few more certs.....but lets be real here). I wonder are they leaving something out, or does anyone think the career accademy is 50 Days too long?

5 days a week of training to become a firefighter is a good start. Now add another 12 weeks.

To my knowledge, they've been doing this for several years now. Sounds like a dog and pony show for Astorinio off the backs of other people who have worked hard to make this happen. Maybe he should comment on increasing funding for more training.
Also, is the County Police Spokesperson now for DES as well, as noted in the article?

As some ex-Empress EMS EMT's would say, including two members of this forum, "ALS is just a luxury, BLS is a neccesity".
I am a Paramedic, and know ALS interventions can save lives. BUT, as I was taught, BLS before ALS always. If you don't have strong BLS, then your ALS isn't going to matter.
I think the problem is, and has been for a while, is that some providers become "Flycar Dependent", and Paramedics don't help the situation by delegating tasks to let EMT's learn.
I think there are a lot of EMT's with good intentions, but have become too dependent on Paramedics for everything.

Lately it seem to me that good BLS has  fallen by the way side and the lack of skills on the EMT part and some ALS providers have been lacking in BLS skills, I have been on calls where the BLS crew waited 10 plus minutes for the medic to get there before they take a blood pressure or start taking a history on the patient???? the EMT just walking in with the clipboard on someone with difficult breathing still doesn't help the patient. I have seen other bring every single bag out of the ambulance inside when the medic is already there and treating the patient and the bags just get in the way because they drop them and go get the stretcher... does anyone have an idea on how to change this?

I could not have said it any better. "New Developments in Yonkers Means New Jobs" ??????? - Hey, the City of Yonkers just "CUT AGAIN" the budge line that was going to be use for funding the purchase land to build a New YFD Station 10 (In association with the "So Called PROMISSED") that was going to be built (with the developer paying for a large piece of) in relationship to the RIDGE HILL DEVELOPMENT. Ha! What a Joke. All Political Talk and NOTHING HAPPENS. There was supposed to be a Additional Fire Company added as part of the Ridge Hill Project (Presumably it was going to be a New Ladder Company).
But, again, years later and NOTHING BUT LIP SERVICE. Don't bet on this New Station (10) ever getting built within the next couple of years. And don't bet on having that New YFD Fire Headquarters built as part of the Yonkers Downtown Development. Capelli just backed out of the proposed New Development in New Rochelle, so I suspect that anything for Downtown Yonkers will not see the light of day anytime soon either.

Instead of giving another test we should just give any minority that signs up the job. So there wont be any more lawsuits until people who took the last test that passed and deserve the job for age discrimination that are now to old to get the job they worked and studied hard for!!!
