  1. Agreed.....the price of a well equipped tower ladder surpassed the million dollar mark the better part of a decade ago. That shouldn't be news now.

Congrats to the Carmel FD on your new delivery. Hope it performs as well as it looks, and serves you well for many years.......and everyone who rides out on it comes home safely.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind if it found itself in front of my camera some day, either. ;)

  2. Greenville E704 the 97 KME formerly of Bryn Mawr, PA is listed for sale.

I was wondering what was up with that. Been on the county's out of service listing forever, along with the truck.....which recently found a new home in Schuylkill Haven, PA courtesy of the Terry Farrell Firefighters' Fund. Last weekend, the only things in service were the brush truck, fire police, and the ex-Tallman engine. I know they have had some internal issues there in recent years, but I hope this is not a bad sign of what's to come.

  3. Upper Saddle River NJ Replacing their KME Pumper Tanker with another KME I believe it's ordered

On order, as per John Malecky's latest column on 1st Responder News. Also a Pierce Enforcer engine for Woodcliff Lake, and an Enforcer PUC for Colesville (Wantage Twp.) in Sussex County, among other "local" listings.

Washingtonville (Orange) has reassigned the unit number 583 to a Ford pickup, unsure of it's exact use. They have acquired a used Sutphen pumper (believed to be ex-Upper Saddle River, NJ) that is lettered Engine 582, which replaces the former 583 Ferrara that was involved in a weather related MVA over the winter.

  4. Construction has begun on the long awaited Pierce rear mount ladder for Ellenville (Ulster Co.). Looks like an Arrow XT cab shell.

    Recent new deliveries:

Saugerties (Ulster): Pierce Saber top mount pumper

Sparrowbush (Orange): Spartan/Custom Fab & Body 2500 gallon pumper-tanker, which will apparently replace Engine 844, rather than 845 as originally thought.

    Hurleyville (Sullivan): International/4Guys 2500 gallon pumper-tanker

  5. Perfect planning, making it on the day there were no fires in the districts that paid for those tower ladders. It was neat, I just don't agree with taking important pieces of equipment away from the taxpayers that "need" them.

Always a valid concern. I wonder if that played a part in the non-appearance of either Deer Park or Miller Place, both of whom have relatively new 'Scopes. Coram runs two truck companies, and the Kings Park rig wasn't in service yet, so they were OK. All the others weren't very far away from home, either. As luck would have it, not a single pager went off during the whole event, which was over and done in roughly two hours.

  6. All I want for Christmas is....... Enough money to purchase Engine 138.:)

Regarding the aforementioned new rig for Middle Hope (Orange), it appears that it will be a replacement for one of the twins. Legal notice published in yesterday's paper advertising their upcoming commissioners' elections, and also including a vote on whether to sell Engine 338 as surplus equipment.

  7. Saugerties (Ulster) should soon be, if they haven't already, taking delivery of a new Pierce Saber pumper.

Campbell Supply's Facebook page shows a new Spartan ERV pumper under construction for Middle Hope (Orange). Wondering if this will be an addition, or a replacement for one of their twins?

Recent legal notice for Mechanicstown (Orange) seeking bids for a new pumper.

  8. Don't worry, guys. Seems to be a dying tradition, anyway. Used to be that when a new rig arrived, one of the first questions asked was "when is the wetdown?" Now, it's more like "is there going to be one?"......and, increasingly, the answer ends up being "no".

Could be any number of reasons why. Money? Safety concerns? People don't have the time. People have (or hear) the attitudes expressed above and agree with them. Who knows?

  9. I'm hearing rumors that Wawayanda (Slate Hill,NY) is replacing their 1988 ALF/LTI 100' RMA with a New Aerial. Can anyone confirm this?

I heard the same rumor. My source said it's used, coming from Long Island. He first said the town begins with "M" (couldn't remember the name) but later said the rig in question is a Sutphen. Don't know any Sutphens on the Island being replaced except Hicksville later in the year. Before I heard the Sutphen statement, I was thinking Manhasset-Lakeville, who recently received a new KME to replace an older one.

    Guess time will tell.

Oh, and for the person who was inquiring about a new Chief's vehicle in Ossining, it was in their parade on Friday. Photos on Facebook.

  10. Greenville Fire District in Orange County,NY has taken delivery of a 2006 Pierce to operate as Engine 703. I believe this will take over Rescue 702's duties and replace the 2008 KME Heavy Rescue, known as Rescue 702.

They had another Pierce engine lined up to do that, not sure what became of it. The rescue is still around (it was in Port's parade yesterday) and one source has said that they are working on ways to correct the weight "issues" and keep it going. 703 may be an addition, not confirmed. Or, it may replace 704 which has been out of service for a while. Have not heard why as of yet.

A little outside our "normal" coverage area here on the site, but Dingmans Township, PA (Pike Co., near Milford) has received a new Smeal Sirius rescue pumper, which was also displayed in Port Jervis's parade yesterday.

  11. Yes, that's it. Same deal as a few years ago. The plan was to replace two then, and two in a few years. Only reason 320 got the nod in the first round was because of the refurb to 322. That was what a member said at the time, if I am remembering correctly.

Saw some interesting comments on Ellenville FD's Facebook page. A vote just passed to purchase a new pumper-tanker. Somebody who hadn't seen the original post asked if it was for a ladder. They said there is a ladder on order (vote had twice previously failed for that). No info on what or when for either piece as of yet.
