Just a couple of tool suggestions Mark. First I would remove the red colored prying tool that is mounted on the right side in one of the compartments (its fork is poorly designed ... too straight and too thick) and replace it with a Fire Hooks Unltd. 30" Pro Bar:

I would also suggest adding a griphoist as well as several sizes of fabric and cable slings for moving heavy loads (much stronger than a basic come along - excellent for rescue work).

Avoid varnishing the cribbing, it can become slick when wet which can result in the load slipping.
Use caution when adding storage ontop of the rig so as not to make it top heavy which can be a vehicle handling hazard.
Be mindful of the weight of any new / additional equipment that you add to the rig as it can affect the unit's braking ability.
Best of luck with the refurb!

I agree on utilizing the roof for storage.
Long 4 x 4's.....additional stokes...Little Giant ladder...a few 6 foot hooks (yes, useful in extrication and car fires)...

I wished you were right 635, but the best candidate is no longer part of the dynamic

The fire district gave approval to start this process with the light rescue (69-51) Wednesday at their monthly meeting, I will make a new topic thread just for this subject instead having it here where it doesn't belong.

I have never sat down and taken inventory, but off hand I would say that I have about one hundred or so Code 3's. Not all of them were bought for display, probably half were picked up cheap as parts donors for kitbash projects. I never limited myself to Code 3's, I also like Corgi and Matchbox, and I have a lot of older diecast from the 1960's in my collection. The only thing I limit myself to is size or scale. I have nothing larger than 1:43, and nothing smaller than 1:64. Right now, my entire collection is packed away.
I also have a lot of lesser-known makes in my collection, such as Tekno (Danish), Conrad (German), Dinky (British), Replex (French), Solido (French), Minichamps (German), Siku (German), Tomica (Japanese), RAF (Russian), Lledo (British), and Ashton (American). Here are a couple of pictures of my wall cabinet. As you might be able to see, there are very few Code 3's displayed. These were taken ten years ago in my old house:

My wife keeps telling me that I'm not funny and it's even harder on-line.
I was joking in light of this discussion: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php/topic/49497-paving-to-reduce-saw-mill-parkway-flooding-set-to-start/

The FD does not have a contract with the vendor, the city does. The City admin. would determine that.

    Barry:
I don't want to steer this away from its original intent- which was to discuss the changes brought about by the expiration of the kkk specs.
I find the NFPA to be a massive failure, an example of what occurs when an industry is allowed to self regulate. America has a terrible fire loss rate compared to the other developed counties in the world.(Sweden is best) We have a horrible firefighter death rate in the same comparison. Developments like the FIT device and fire retardant paint have come alongshowing great promise, and the NFPA seems to kind of ho-hum them. We build 1000's of residential homes a day with no sprinklers and no inspections despite that most fireman who die, die in home fires. So I see little proof of the NFPA being effective at its mission of reducing fire loss and loss of firemen's lives. I see it as one disfunctional agency taking the lead from another.
I also doubt that 80% stat. FD's may be on 80% of 911 EMS calls, but I don't think that 80% of peopel transported in ambulances are transported by "firefighters". NYC is a prime and local example. Of course, that has no bearing on the thread, but just saying.

Oh Em Gee, Dan! I was thinking the same thing!
But really, it was time for something better. Too many of us die in ambulance crashes, and many are unbelted in the back.
I do wish the NFPA would stay the hell out of my ambulance. I do not trust that group. They seem to rep the manufacturers, not me. I do not need firemen from Massachussetts with too little fire work to do getting involved in EMS. Prefer to see the AMA not the NFPA.

Also make sure you're not donning your facepiece too early. Don't donn the facepiece on the rig because you are going to clip the regulator in later. If you practice you can be quck at putting everything on at the entrance to the IDLH. While moving in it's normal to have to clean the outside of the facepiece with your gloved hand. If you have the TIC you will have to do the screen and the lense.
