This story makes me very happy about one point - I don't live anywhere near Chicago. This is absurd and totally demoralizing to all the men and women who took and passed the exam to become firefighters.
I wonder how the judge would feel if she was passed over for law school with a score of 89 so that a person with a score of 64 could take her seat.
I guess this means they better start passing out diplomas to those who failed out of HS also because apparently grades don't matter.

Personally I like it the way it is.. I do not look at every IA for say New England but when one pops up with that is out of the ordinary I will check it out( same goes for the other regions). As far as posting links to news articles sometimes a incident is missed, so the link provides the best info available at the time.. Maybe add a additional category for just news links. I look at IA posts the same as all other posts if it does not interest me I don't read it, if you don't care about upstate don't read about upstate.

Here are some photos of this engine from probably the late 80"s and early 90's I took at the Mamaroneck Car show. Notice the old NYS gold plate and the photo with the new Lafrance bell. Enjoy.

I'm a little late to the party here, but I read this at the beginning of the thread and I need to call this out.
Why is posting a dept's name such a problem? What is heard over the radio is available to anyone. We're not in the business of keeping secrets here, we're in the business of saving people's lives (or at the very least, being there quickly when they call).
Going after someone's agency because they mentioned a manpower shortage of another is a really short-sighted move. I've heard dept's paging for manpower over and over again without a timely response. This is not acceptable. Some departments are manned well and others are not. Those that cannot field a crew in a respectable amount of time (to me this is less than 4 minutes) do not have the capability to act as emergency response agencies. Even if you can get a crew together MOST of the time, that's not good enough. Calling 911 should never be a crap shoot.
    Consolidation Consolidation Consolidation!!!

Because if every dept. does not have at least one of everything, Westchester will be in danger of losing its status of highest taxed county in America.
Most of the fires in northern Westchester have difficulty deploying a ladder fast enough to get into position ahead of the 1st due engine. Once blocked out it is useless. The main reason for this is that without inhouse staffed units the 1st priority is (and has to be) to get the 1st due engine out. In much of the non hydranted districts the next critical unit is the tanker. By the time enough members assemble to get the ladder out, its to late.
I know some will then say, if they had a quint it would be the 1st unit and problem solved, except the comprimises needed to make a quint work, mean it will show up with too little hose, not enough water and not enough ground ladders. Its better to get a dedicated truck from another company on AUTOMATIC AID to every fire call. That way you get a proper engine response to attack the fire and a proper truck response to do truck work.

That hits the F%$# nail on the head. I am not a terrorist. I spent my time on the Pile, and luckily, so far, have only had minor problems (PTSD, and sinus problems) compared to what some of my co-workers are going through. I am really getting disgusted with the way our government is acting. I really am beginning to believe it is time for a Second American Revolution. No more Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Tea Party, but we the voters need to look at what the candidates are about. Elect only those that put country above all else. No more multiple term members, if we can have term limits on the President, then we should have them on Congress as well. Eliminate their pensions and life time health benefits for serving just one term. The current government (not just Obama, but his predecessors, Bush(s) Clinton, etc.) have given away money like crazy, and never once checked the recipients like this. Why start now?

**JUST A QUICK NOTE** I like for us to keep in mind the bother firefighters who were the first responders to this heart braking incident...... , anything that involes kids is a little harder to deal with.
Just three weeks ago they also lost a young child to a working house fire.
    God Bless Newburgh firefighters

Its a commercial area, with no residential for a few blocks. If you look at this map the boat ramp is just south of Gully's.

Could you imagine what was going through the minds of the firemen whose station this boy was brought to?
The very same firemen who have been FIGHTING to keep their jobs and their firehouses open.
The VERY same men who already worked severely understaffed.
Now they get thrown into a situation as tragic as this.
Understaffed, underappreciated, and under constant attack by the general public and politicians, yet 100 percent professional. Job well done NFD. Know that you ARE appreciated by some, and so many of us have your backs.
Pay attention Brothers....as recent events have proven, it's no longer where; it's truly when.

I applaud the PBA for giving this award to P.O. Hess.... he saved lives that night and is a hero.. END OF STORY
As far as the feds go, they are on a witch hunt in westchester county and will stop at nothing to hang a cop, even if it's under false pretenses... we all remember how the FBI agent that was investigating Det. Quinoy in Sleppy Hollow tampered with evidence to try to get a conviction.
But no matter what the feds say, it will not change the fact that PO Hess is the Pleasantville PBA's officer of the year !!!
  16. PCFD ENG58 liked a post in a topic by NYMedic37 in Pleasantville Police Officer named Officer of the Year
Police Officer Aaron Hess is a hero and saved lives the night that Criminal Danroy Henry attempted to run over Police Officers and may have killed civilians in the process. Its very simple:
    1) PO Hess = good guy.
    2) Criminal Henry = bad guy.
    Any questions?
  17. PCFD ENG58 liked a post in a topic by GAW6 in Pleasantville Police Officer named Officer of the Year
As far as I am concerned, Aaron SAVED lives that night. What would have happened if DJ Henry drove off and killed one of the hundreds of kids that were running amok through the shopping center? Or an innocent person if he managed to get out on the road? The Henry Family is obviously not seeing the "what COULD have happened"! They could have easily been on the "other side of the fence" and being sued by a family who's loved one was run down by their drunk son - because as we all know, drunk drivers have been known to kill or mame.
I just hope that Aaron makes a full recovery - I, for one, have missed working with him!!!

Screw the family of DJ Henry. I for one am sick of their sh*t. He tried to run down a police officer and died in the process. Boohoo but I dont lose any sleep on it. I congratulate PO Hess for this award and commiserate the split second decision he made, while that decision needed another individual life, the decision was made to protect the officers life and public safety in general.

The WPFD vollie's do absolutely nothing but take 1% of the 2% money the city gets. it's a disgrace to even call the vollie's since they do nothing. All the 2% money the city gets should go to the real firefighters of the city, they use that money for their eyeglass and dental, which is ran by the union, and every penny can be accounted for. the vollies throw parties which was investigated years ago by the reporter dispatch. I CANNOT SAY IT ENOUGH THEY ARE A DISGRACE.
They provide NO SUPPORT, they do NOTHING, but rob money. To call them volunteer firefighters is a disgrace. They should be called a social club.
on a day to day basis, not sure but i know one thing........ HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF WHITE PLAINS
