  1. "whens "YMCA Pool Lifegurad" coming out? " "we usually start the tour checking the chlorine and emptying the strainers. later we'll set up a checkpoint making sure no one enters the pool without showering first and looking for expired membership cards. failure to renew is a class D violation so we have them gather up their towels & flipflops & escort them to the main entrance. we're now heading over to the B side of the pool. membership services is sending us over to resolve an issue over a chaise lounge & failure to return some rental towels." anything short of being w/ an nypd esu truck is going to be BORING & probably done 10x before
  2. "The only negative is the bucket. It's too small, difficult to work from (not ergonomically designed), and has a tendency to be struck (or knocked off!) due to it's low slung position." "iron mike" allowed this to be after all the work he put into that truck? all kidding aside that is a nice truck as is 3 truck. other than being pressed for time i never could figure out why you guys bought that converted 75' mini tower. are you guys having electrical problems etc with those hme's like turn of river is having with theirs? if so it's got to be driving ralph crazy.
  3. as far as deer go there are a couple cars w/ .22lr's in their cars to "neutralize" deer. lees than humane but "that's how it's always been done". the only cars w/ shotguns in greenwich are supervisors, detectives (that's a joke) and the 2 "accident cars" but "that'show it's always been done". i don't understand the "accident car" concept either. these guys are considered corporals, supervise the less senior guys in the squad and are generally used as backup to the other posts but their main responsibility is accident investigation. this is absurd and are there so many serious & fatal accidents every day they need to cover the town w/ 2 cars just for this purpose? they'd best be serving the town by incorporating accident investigation into traffic enforcement and stafing the former accident cars with guys from the SRU team that handle calls with weapons domestics & other high risk calls or since they are considered corporals make that a permanant rank and give them the responsibility of being the FTO's. reruits riding with these guys would get a much broader exposure to the town, higher rate of calls & just much more thorough training experience.
  4. pens? pens? PENS?????????????? are you kidding me. being stuck between port chester and stamford as well as an appetizing target for crime right off i-95 why doesn't he put his time to better use fighting drugs or the teams of professional shoplifters infiltrating the town daily robbing greenwich ave blind or trying to solve the murder of matthew margolies over 20 years ago. that's why chiefs hired from the outside are a breath of fresh air. wasting time worrying about click pens is a disgrace.
  5. "The Sutphen was offered to the Stamford Vol. Departments, but they were not interested. Most likely, it will go into reserve status for use as a spare ladder." are they crazy? what rationale did springdale use for not wanting to replace an almost 50 year old snorkel and i realize the limitations of a 75' ladder but the tip load increase would have been a good trade-off for glenbrook's almost 40 year old stick and it would have made a nice 1st due quint responding out of station 2 for turn of river to all the schools, office parks & nursing facilities in their 1st due response area. a little creative thinking would have found this a nice new home but then again other than belltown's tower how many of the other 3 vol. trucks even get out the door? probably better off keeping downtown where it'll see some work.
  6. if it's all about money which it always is with walters who is known as a notoriously cheap penny pincher with his people i agree having cops standing on their "dots" on the avenue is ridiculous. it's my understanding that if something were to occur right next to them that they are prohibited from leaving their post. this isn't 1937 and a report commisioned by he town in the 30's specifically states they should be abolished. another money saver would be getting rid of the "technician" rank & return those cops to doing what cops do not fixing computers nd other non-cop duties. what they really need is a chief brought in from the outside to shake things up a bit. they have some really good agressive street cops & middle management that get held back due to the 1950's thinking at the top. i'm not a greenwich cop nor have anything to gain personally, i'd just like to see it function at it's full potential and not hide behind "that's the way it's always been done" like the absurd car numbering system and shying away from putting shotguns in cars because it gives residents "the wrong impression". those familiar with the peculiar way of doing business in greenwich could make this a fascinating thread.
  7. glenbrook fd(stamford): 1983 engine 1992 engine noroton fd(darien): 1994 ladder stamford f&r: 1- tower 2-ladders
  8. and while i'm venting "a bronx tale" SUCKED. i want my $7.00 and those 2 hours of my life back. not deniro's first POS but definately brancato's biggest POS. hey lilo, you SUCK as an actor, you SUCK as a burglar, you SUCK as a junkie & you SUCK as a human being. i hope you're better at being a corpse. too bad none of those shots killed you & your ex-pootan's father. junkie POS, i spit on you.
  9. i volunteer to help with the daily beatings. do i bring my own "blackjack" or will implements be provided? i hope the peekskill photographer was being sarcastic and that post wasn't meant to be taken literally. i can't possibly see someone being that gullible, liberal & full of nonsense except for maybe ed asner & mike farrell but those 2 hollywood has-been cretins have made second careers making excuses for sub-human murdering junkie pieces of garbage. i don't know why someone would even waste a second of their time or a nickel of their money helping one of these useless piles of crap. i'd like to make brancato's death so humiliating & painful he'd wish tony soprano had actually killed him. i had just gotten myself calmed down this evening now i'm ticked off all over again. thanks. and lilo, DIE SCUMBAG!!!!!
  10. almost like "city by the sea" is coming back to hit a little too close to home. i'd like to break my "goodfellas" & "copland" dvds & use the shards to carve brancato's eyes right out of his skull then........... well you get the point and until the state of new york sees fit to put him to death for this heinous crime DIE SCUMBAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. nice to know the royalties me made off the dvd's i bought are going to defend this useless piece of garbage that should just be left to rot in some corner. this kid isn't worth the time of day defending & should never see the light of day ever again. DIE SCUMBAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. long ridge fire co. in stamford had 2 anniversarys, a 63 & a 65 i believe. they also owned a 30, 40 & 50. they still own the 50.
  13. thank you 57. why do we have to stumble upon that info here? why isn't nextel giving this info with our bills so we're not constantly frustrated by their SUCK service???????? instead we get an envelope stuffed with offers to spend even more moeny on their junk. i'm glad to know now there's a fix for some of the problems i'm just pissed off they're not telling us rather trying to get us to buy new phones. what a creepy, sleazy company they are. NEXTEL SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. the woman is an imbecile & i can understand the emotion wanting to give her a ticket or "charge her" but give her a ticket or charge her with what? unfortunately it's not illegal to be a self absorbed, obnoxious, selfish, stupid, petty, childish, a$$h*1e. and anything you could possibly charge her with would be trivial & not worth the court's time. in this case street justice where the cops let her have it worked better than anything else. that little "come to jesus" meeting hopefully scared her so much she'll look twice before even spitting out her gum on the sidewalk. she's a jerk and just needs to be handled & treated like the jerk she is........rudely, with no sympathy, no compassion & no consideration for her feelings.
  15. you can't blame capacity for the reason nextel SUCKS! i've had nextel almost from the beginning and now they just suck over a greater service area. while the larger service area has been nice they've done just about NOTHING to fill in the existing dead spots. they should have spent the time & money improving their service than sponsoring stock car races. they suck, i hate them but since they're the ones everyone has i'm stuck. did i mention they SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. the growth in this town is unreal. at any given time there's a couple residential subdivisions, corporate parks & strip malls being built & there's a huge automall coming around the corner from the biggest lowe's store i've ever been in. this is old, undeveloped farmland and they've got plenty of it and due to being relatively convenient to philly & anywhere in del & a low cost of living it's going to continue. the fire dept. there is the social center of town & they make a lot of money with their banquet hall doing weddings etc. they've got a well run, impressive operation going there.
  17. springdale fire co in stamford had the same setup for years, calling their guys "housemen" before a series of fatal fires in the mod 80's when they finally caved in & hired career drivers, then firefighters before ultimately merging their guys into stamford fire rescue giving them a 4 man engine co. springdale was the last to see the benefits of having a combination dept and it was because their "old timer" management didn't want to deal with the iaff & contracts etc wanting to still be able to hire & fire at will. those guys were hopelessly stuck in the 50's until a few fires that were just disasters forced them to change and when the finally relented they were much better off for it. anyone from the area old enough should remember what used to go on.
  18. the level of obscenity is off the scale. just because they haven't physically stolen the money & lined their own pockets doesn't make it any less wrong or obscene. there is no way any ethical, honest person could justify the 1000.00 custom tailored suits (uniforms), granite tops, 3 ladder trucks to cover a few sq. miles, disneyland suites, tiki bars, 130+ heavy rescue trucks, $400,000+ engines and so on. it's despicable & obscene and no way to een begin to justify it without selling ones integrity, honesty & soul. the misuse of taxpayer money here has to criminal besides being totally immoral, self serving, self indulgent and just plain gluttony. and to see the people confronted defend these practices so shamelessly and with so much arrogance is more disgusting than the waste of taxpayer money and speaks for itself that they have some perverted sense of entitlement and how dare they be questioned as to their actions or intentions. i come from a combo dept that did 2000+ calls a year with hand-me down turnout gear, 3rd & 4th generation old pagers, 30 year old ladder truck, 20 year old rescue, 20+ year old supply & reserve engines, almost 20 year old tanker, no chief's cars, no class a or dept supplied uniforms etc & the job got down just as well as on long island. we existed pretty much living hand to mouth & planning our purchases carefully and living within our unrealistically low budget. i'm anything but jealous of them, if anything i'm proud of what we did with what we had while i was a member there. i'd be ashamed & embarrassed if we had taken that kind of taxpayer money, blew it all on toys and can't get a machine or ambulance out the door. i loved working in a combo dept and having career drivers getting the first due engines out the door & later as an officer was comforted knowing not only was i getting 2 engines but drivers who were pretty damn good fireground officers as well. with the kind of money flowing into those dept it's irresponsible to not be hiring guys and evolving from a negligent volly dept into properly functioning combo dept that's able to properly respond when the taxpayers need them and if that means forgoing buying a $450,000 engine every couple of years or having one less $800,000 ladder truck so be it but at least the chiefs & commisioners will be able to sleep at night knowing they're providing legitimate fire protection & giving the people what they're paying for instead of criminally converting the money into luxury clubhouses packed with unused, useless toys. i could go on & on i'm so disgusted by this abuse but they apparently don't care so what's the use other than to vent and thank you for allowing me to do so.
  19. don't they usually surrender by now?
  20. sorry i'll miss it as i'll be vacationing at lake titicaca & in managua, nicaragua
  21. doesn't this storyline sound familiar?????????? 1/2 "third watch" & 1/2 "bringing out the dead"
  22. myself & 3 other guys much preferred the new yorkers & bought our own while everyone else wore the dept. issued metros. our a**. chief & training officer for whatever petty reasons despised the fdny & anything associated with them so we endured a lot of garbage from them even going as far as threatening to "outlaw" them. it's funny to watch someone back down & walk away with their tails between their legs when you tell them they better be in full compliance with all osha, nfpa standards, bloodbourne pathogen training, hazmat, mrt, emt, cpr & defib certs, dot inspections on all the machines etc before coming after my helmet. a lot of the guys liked the styling of our new yorkers but not the weight or price & eventully got the dept to begin buying 1010's instead of metros.
  23. "backdraft" sucked more than anything has sucked before. what's with the little spot fires, no smoke, propelling 55 gallon drums, single engine & truck at factory fire & no "backup" available, memorable quotes from "captain ron" like "dig in!" & what's the engine co. officer doing with a pickhead axe??????????? the technical consultant was either way over paid or totally ignored. i know it's entertainment & not a documentary but don't insult our intelligence with this stuff. emergency! may be 30+ years old & pretty hokey but at least jack webb was into technical accuracy & for the most part did a pretty job pulling it off while remaining entertaining. hollywood with all their cinematic advances can't do the same?????????? both of those movies should have been incredible. compare to what steven speilberg did with saving private ryan & band of brothers.
  24. have any of your departments had the "pleasure" of doing business with halpin in elmira?? they were the area seagrave dealer till losing it to excellsior. i don't know if they're even still in business but after the refurb i picked up there i wouldn't be surprised if they weren't.
  25. kidding???????? no. why would i be kidding????? LOL that's what's so nice & refreshing about sarcasim is sometimes people aren't entirely sure if you're really serious or not. yes, i am kidding & glad you enjoyed it.
