Times Herald-RecordPublished: 2:00 AM - 02/17/12 TOWN OF WALLKILL — Mechanicstown fire commissioners said Wednesday that a recent modeling photo shoot at the firehouse happened without their knowledge.

Commissioners also said the paid chief they hired last fall — the only paid chief in Orange County except for the City of Newburgh — is needed because of the increase in paperwork and administrative duties that come with the job, as well as the increase in calls over the years.

The female models are pictured in firefighters' gear in some photos and cheesecake poses in others. There are also about eight men in firefighters' gear who show up in some of the shots. About 200 photos taken in the firehouse are online on photographer Bill Tracy's website, www.billtracyphoto.com.

  6. Middletown mayor hopes to bring down firefighter OT with part-timers

DeStefano also wants to explore enhancing the 27 full-time paid drivers with part-timers. "We're talking about paid staff to supplement the existing full time staff to cover overtime shifts and vacation shifts that we could utilize part time employees in the fire department," he said. The mayor said it is permissible under civil service law and they have called for a civil service list to canvass to see who would be interested

  7. Fire jobs could be left open to save Middletown cash

    http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20111123/NEWS/111230349/-1/NEWS

DeStefano said the city would look at some contractual changes next year to reduce the roughly $375,000 spent yearly on fire department overtime, including possibly hiring part-time drivers. This would have to be negotiated with the department's union, whose contract expires at the end of 2012.Any part-timers would have to have the same qualifications as full-time firemen, said Alderman Joe Masi, who also is the city's civil service commissione]

  8. Orange County Sheriff rips Diana about proposed cuts to overtime

GOSHEN — Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois blasted County Executive Ed Diana on Tuesday for seeking to cut his overtime budget by more than $1.1 million, saying it could deplete the jail's funds by June and cost the county a lucrative arrangement to house immigration prisoners in unused beds.

In his 2012 budget proposal this month, Diana slashed overtime for correction officers by $800,000, or 44 percent, and for patrol deputies by $301,475, or 39 percent. The sheriff's office had requested amounts similar to the previous two years
