  1. Photounit, From what I understand Vails Gate did the same as Walden and did not attend due to the lack of qualified drivers. Both departments are strictly following the CDL Law, and since this was not an emergency all apparatus drivers were required to have the licenses. To my knowledge we are the only two departments in the county with such policies.
  2. Very nice addition. One thing that annoys me about the chiefs vehicles around here is 1/2 of them have "command" or "incident command" somewhere on them. Every mutual aid fire I go to I look around and see multiple trucks with this on them, and no one around them. Not a big deal in the whole overview of things, but it annoys me.
  3. This may be a stupid question but other then dropping patients off at St. Lukes, where does Alamo operate in Orange County?
  4. If this is a FD run ambulance, at what point does NFPA 1901 come info effect, ie. Chevron Striping, Lighting, Data Recording, ect. I understand that this vehicle was manufactured prior to the 1/1/09 update, and that there are federal KKK standards for ambulances, but NFPA is supposed to cover all fire equipment, including support vehicles.
  5. Link to all orange county frequencies You have to sign up for the board, but its free, and by far the BEST and current listing for frequencies in NY. As for apparatus numbering, Orange County is broken down into 9 battalions, and apparatus derive them self from those battalions. All apparatus are 3 digit numbers with the first number being the battalion. ie. All Circleville, Mechanicstown, Silver Lake, and Middletown apparatus are 100 series numbers, because they are in battalion 1 All Walden, Montgomery, Coldenham , and Maybrook apparatus are 200 series, because they are in battalion 2. All county identifiers start with 36, the most important being 36-Control, then 36-1, 36-2, 36-3, ect. for the county coordinators. All 36-100 series are Fire Investigations, all 200 series are Haz-Mat, and all 300 series are the fire training center. ie. 36-1 County Fire Coordinator 36-2 Deputy Coordinator - Division 1 (Batt. 1, 2, & 9) 36-3 Deputy Coordinator - Division 2 (Batt. 6, 7, & 8) 36-4 Deputy Coordinator - Division 3 (Batt. 3, 4, & 5) 36-5 Deputy Coordinator - Medical 36-6 Deputy Coordinator - Fire Investigations 36-7 Deputy Coordinator - Tech Rescue 36-8 Deputy Coordinator - Training 36-9 Deputy Coordinator - Communications 36-10 Deputy Coordinator - Haz-Mat 36-11 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 1 36-12 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 2 36-13 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 3 36-14 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 4 36-15 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 5 36-16 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 6 36-17 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 7 36-18 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 8 36-19 Deputy Coordinator - Battalion 9 As stated all the apparatus and identifiers can be located at www.OCNYFIRE.com
  6. I'll try to get a picture of it, but Maybrook Car 1, in Orange County runs an almost identical truck to this. It was donated by Johnson Toyota of New Hampton.
  7. Mobile Life sent out a memo to all employees today that the Town of Fishkill awarded us a 3 year contract for the Rombout Fire District . Does anyone know what happened with the City of Beacon? They were supposedly dropping the medic as previously stated on here, but I still hear it responding to all ALS calls in the city, did the city change their minds, or did Alamo decide to leave it there.
  8. See now I know you've been spending too much time in Dutchess. That is 1 of the Town of Newburgh's 3 new ambulances. I'll try to get you some pics.
  9. All I know is they need to fix the lapse in UHF coverage so I dont have to write any more incident reports and wake up an administrator at 1230am.
  10. Its not truly a regional response team. Just that these departments are the only departments in the Orange/Ulster/Sullivan area that stepped up, bought the equipment, and trained their members. They have it set up so that when ever 1 is called they all respond. P.s. Ace did you really sit there and type out all that?
  11. I would just like to clarify, the joke of a newspaper(Times Herald Record) had it wrong, the article said it was a Village of Maybrook Officer that struck the girl, but looking at the picture gallery it stated multiple times that she was struck by a Town of Montgomery Officer. The accident however, involved the Village of Maybrook's Deputy Chief, just the accident occured in and is being investigated by the Town of Montgomery.
  12. They were reponding to a water rescue in the Town of Cornwall. I belive it was actually in their Fire District. Why you would have a zodiak boat strapped to the top of an Engine though is beyond me. Last I knew they had a boat trailer for it.
  13. The Hasidic FF's of Kiryas Joel do infact "pack up" and go interior. They are a part of the Orange County Mutual Aide System, and they have provided Mutual Aide services to surrounding area departments when requested. They are in service 24 hours, 7 days, 365 days a year, that includes the weekly sabbath and their religious holidays i.e. Passover.
  14. Nope, Winona Lakes 2 chief's vehicles are White Tahoes.

  16. Would Arlington Station 6 be a viable option?
  17. Myself and another member of my FD are taking Fire Instructor I this weekend and next at the State Fire Academy. Anyone else on here going or have any tips about the class?
  18. A blood drive in support of Bonnie Ames Friday April 18th Noon - 8 p.m. Florida Fire House 16 South Main St. Florida, NY For information, call Lona Olejinczak at 914-443-4583.
  19. My understanding is a FF stepped into a puddle that was deeper than he thought, resulting in burns when the scolding water filled his boot. Unknown condition.
  20. Think thats quick? I operated at a structure fire that same day in Maybrook (Orange County), the original call came in some time around 0650hrs. When My engine cleared the scene around 1430hrs, "the claw" had more then 1/2 of the home demolished. **Photos courtesy of Maybrook FF Mark Rosen.** This is my favorite picture of the whole fire. Its a Montgomery FF on the end of their truck on the Hurd Avenue side of the building.
  21. The HEAR system is still widely used in Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess Counties. We have the option to use both the radio or the phone, and personally, I can't remember the last time I used the phone for a call I tech'd. Its a very simple and effecient means to notify the hopsital. The only thing I feel is a waste is in Dutchess and Ulster Counties you have to go through the 911 center to get your line, where as in Orange you just switch to the channel and activate the 3-digit code.

  23. My department is currently using Scott 30 min 2.2's that we bought in either '94 or '95. These packs have no electronics, except for the separate PASS device on the side, we have been looking & researching for about a year and a half now. The chiefs & commissioners all agreed on 1 thing, let the officers decide what they want (I know I was shocked too, on both them agreeing, and letting someone who's going to use something design it!). The officers after demoing multiple brands, and styles decided unanimously on Scott, and almost unanimously on the 45 min bottle on a wire frame. For once the comm's are doing the right thing (my opinion) and letting the officers get what ever they feel is best. Since the wire frame is very expensive option, almost $1500 for each pack, we did a little more research, and the local Scott dealer (MES NY) said he could upgrade the 2.2's to 4.5 for a considerably less price then the new cost, this would include new regulator, hoses, HUD, buddy port, integrated PASS, and I'm pretty sure new straps. We would be keeping our current wire frame harnesses, which to our surprise hold a lifetime no questions asked warranty from Scott on the wire & welds. The comm's have placed aside $200,000 to replace our current 30 packs, and 30 bottles. The quotes we got for the brand new everything was right around $200,000 so that was great, but currently it looks as if we may be going with the upgrades to the current packs, which would mean we could buy some extra packs for spares & training and extra spare bottles. As for weight, the wire frame 4.5 45 min packs weight only slightly more then our current packs, but less then the 4.5 30 mins packs with the stamped plate back.
  24. Nub Grafix is still located in Walden, Orange County. Trust me, I live a few blocks from his shop.
  25. The old rescue has been gone for a few months now. They have been using thier recently aquired ladder truck (Ex- City of Newburgh T-1) to hold their rope rescue, extrication, & FAST equipment. Pictures of Circleville's Fleet, as well as almost every other in-service Orange County Apparatus can been seen at OCNY Fire.
