  1. Good job!! It's nice to see a new rig that isn't enormous. As Mike Wilbur says, "Bigger isn't necessarily better."
  2. Has anyone had trunk frequency scanning problems recently? Minimal radio traffic and when received only parts of conversations. I inputted two new trunk frequencies from 60-Control, but that hasn't fixed the problem. Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Thanks to SteveOFD and TR54 for your feedback, based on which, I believe we have both the Uniden and Radio Shack scanners corrected. Thanks again, Syd PS: Ex-2114, They were firehouse scanners, not personal ones...LOL
  4. Thanks Steve. We were able to correct our Uniden scanners. We are still having software programming problems with our Radio Shack scanners. The software doesn't seem to allow a second table. Thanks, Syd
  5. I have many fond memories of that rig, having responded on it a number of times from the engine company across the floor.
  6. I agree Chief, you've said it all. Thanks 60-Control for all that you do on a consistent basis. Syd Henry, Chief Elmsford Fire Dept.
  7. What about the "full moon" theory = a busy night? This was always the case when I was on the police job.
  8. Appears to be the same location as a fatal tractor trailer rollover and fire in September 1998 or 99.

  11. OUR SEMINAR WILL BE HELD AS SCHEDULED, REGARDLESS OF WEATHER CONDITIONS. THERE IS NO SNOW DATE. HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU THERE!! Syd Henry, Chief Elmsford Fire Dept.
  12. Prior to the Babbitt Court address being confirmed, presumably due to incomplete information being received by cell phone call(s), 60-Control dispatched the Elmsford Fire Dept to the vicinity of Route 9-A and Paulding St. for a possible structure fire. Once the correct address and actual fire was confirmed, off Route 9-A, just south of the Elmsford Fire District line, E-237 responded to the scene (after checking with the Incident Commander) and L-55 relocated to Fairview Fire Headquarters (60-Control dispatch: Our normal assignment on a Fairview 2nd alarm). The E-237 crew operated at the scene, with the other units, until the fire had been brought under control; at which time they were released by the Incident Commander. L-55 remained at Fairview Fire Headquarters until most units had returned to service; they were then released by the Incident Commander. I hope this clarifies our role in this fire. Syd Henry, Chief Elmsford Fire Dept.
  13. You are absolutely correct on the water can's usefulness. We carry one on all apparatus and in all Chiefs' vehicles. We also add 8 ounces of Class A foam to each, making them even more effective.

  17. The Mt. Pleasant Police Dept. took delivery of a Hurst Tool spreaders and power unit in the Spring of 1976, I believe, if my memory serves me correctly. A group of us received training from the Hurst Tool Company rep; and we then trained our own people, even producing our own training video. The unit was housed in the retro-fitted trunk of a patrol vehicle, which was equipped with heavy duty rear-end suspension. Mutliple units were always dispatched to serious MVAs, so assistance in handling the equipment was never an issue. A little primitive, yes, but it served the department well very for many years, prior to the local Fire Depts assuming the role. While techniques have certainly changed over the years, alot of what I learned back in those early years, still serves me well today.
  18. Elmsford FD uses PPV regularly, but like with any equipment, it must be trained on and used correctly. This past summer we cleared a medium smoke condition throughout a 3-story office building in a matter of minutes with proper fan placement and proper opening of doors and windows. We have gas powered and electric PPV fans. My preference is electric, because it's more versatile. At next year's Lt. Andy Fredericks Seminar, Los Angeles Battalion Chief John Mittendorf will be speaking about PPV ventilation.

  20. On behalf of the Officers and Members of the Elmsford Fire Department, I would like to thank all who attended the Lt. Andy Fredericks Seminar yesterday. I think it was one of the best to date, with two great speakers, 400 firefighters attending and a sold out vendor hall. It was really special having new Firefighter Andy Fredericks, Jr. in attendance, as well. Thanks once again. Hope to see all of you next year, February 6th, when Battalion Chief John Mittendorf, Los Angeles Fire Department, retired, will be speaking about Ventilation and the 10 Common Mistakes on the Fireground and How to Avoid Them. Stay safe, Syd Henry, Chief

  23. Looks like effective use of Class A foam made quick work of this job.
  24. For a brief time, when it was a skating rink, it was the New York Rangers practice facility. After practice it was not uncommon to see the Rangers' players in local restaurants.
