  1. Cogs, It is the IAFF that prohibits its members from volunteering. WHen you are sworn in, you swear to abide by the International's rules and regs. I know that there are many that don't, but if I agree to abide by the rules, that's what I will do. PERIOD. If you can't abide by the rules, don't get a job that is in the IAFF. Stick to volunteering
  2. Hey Cogs, Here is a little , and I do mean little, of what the SFRD does when we are not working. MDA thankfulStaff Reports Article Launched: 06/27/2008 01:00:00 AM EDT To the editor: Thank you to the Stamford Firefighters Local 786, who "filled the boot" on Saturday, June 14. With the support of the community, Local 786 raised $6,500 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. With a generous $500 donation from Jimmy's Seaside Restaurant and support from the community, the Stamford firefighters were able to continue their unwavering support of the MDA. The Local 786 has collected more than $72,700 during their Fill-the-Boot campaign and their golf tournaments since 2002. All proceeds raised during the street-side campaign help support MDA services and research programs, including its summer camp program for people ages 6 to 21 affected by neuromuscular disease. Thank you to the citizens of Stamford for all of their continuous support of Local 786. The MDA also extends a special thank-you to the local heroes, the firefighters, who have devoted their time to battling neuromuscular disease. Deidre Treanor Hawthorne, N.Y. The writer is district director of the MDA of the Lower Hudson Valley & Fairfield County. I guess we all dont run home after our shifts are over.
  3. WOW
  4. I for one would like to know how this one sided rant is an update on the Stamford merger as the heading suggests. I believe it is a cheap attempt to try to smear the President of local 786. Maybe the heading should have been SOUR GRAPES. I really think the post should be taken down by the people who do a fine job moderating topics. It has nothing to do with the merger. Just my$.02
  5. **************, As the officer assigned to Engine 6 currently in group 4, I can attest to the training with GFD. They know they have a fully staffed Engine, what would be the sense of manning another Engine. A Truck company would be the next piece I would want to staff. And yes they are staffing them with 4-6 men every time they go out the door. As for an exact number, I couldn't begin to come up with the number, because I don't work every shift. Speaking for my group, group 4, I can honestly say they have been on quite a few calls with us. I can't give you a number, because I know and you know it would not be accurate. Its nice to know that they are coming behind us because we don't know if BVFD is going to get out of the door. Perhaps you should worry a little more about your department than anyone elses. And I am not hiding behind a ficticious screen name either making accusations and stirring the pot. You can find me on the roster. Group 4 Station 6. P.S. Good DDDOGG WOOF WOOF
  6. What a joke. If you believe that piece of crap will force a door that easy, I have some swampland in Florida that you might be interested in. Save your money
  7. Thanks Joe . I appreciate it
  8. Joe, how long did the whole process take from start to the report being completed. Also, what type of questions were asked during the interviews?
  9. According to the charter, the board of reps or board of finance cannot add to the mayors budget, they can only reccomend cuts. Talk about a bare bones budget. Guess they will need to dip into their warchests.
  10. This is just the tip of the iceberg for this scumbag. He is being investigated for more than this. Hope he enjoyed himself, because hes gonna be someones girlfriend where he's going.
  11. Another valuable tool as well as fast deployment is the battery operated sawzall. We carry 2- 24 volt cordless Deewalt saws, with an aggressive plaster or wood blade will make easy work of the laster and lathe. The same technique could be used in making the cuts, and then pull down larger sections. It save alot of time and energy. Or you can use the same techniques for opening a roof with the hinge cut, where you would use the stud or rafter as a hinge point. Just some past tricks of the trade from doing demo for so many years.

  18. HFD BRAVO. I could not agree with you more. This country was founded by immigrants... LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. Come through the front door, we will welcome you with open arms. Come through the back door and demand your rights and disrespect the country that offers freedom, I DON'T THINK SO. It is about time we shut the door on illegals once and for all. Yes Seth they are humans, but so are the thousands that are doing it the right way. Waiting their turn, not breaking our laws. Thanks to the ACLU, illegal aliens have more rights than any of us that were born in this country. Perhaps we could put a N before ACLU for Non American Civil Liberties Union. Its time to shut the borders and seal the leaks. It will be our pourous borders that will bring the next terrorists (if not already here) to this country. Our priorities have become pretty clouded in this country by special interest groups wanting their fifteen minutes of fame. Perhaps a build up of military on our borders with a shoot to kill order would change the illegals minds about breaking into our country, and breaking our laws.
  19. And dont forget the little money maker in PA, Hershey Park. They soak you for everything you have got. Boycott the theme park as well as the candy.
  20. How about this. If you want to volunteer, DON't apply to be paid. If you can't follow a simple by law of the union that is "supposed to be" protecting you, then stay a volunteer.
  21. You can also be hit by a bus crossing the street. Should we stop walking in public? PLEASE. It has nothing to do with the "VOLUNTEER SYSTEM", that everyone says is so great. It is the professional fire fighters union telling their membership not to volunteer. Plain and simple. When you become a career guy, its time to withdraw from active service in your volunteer company. You can be a social member and be involved in the company. And if the "VOLUNTEER SYSTEM" is so great, why cant they attract and retain volunteers? Because it is not like it was 20 or 30 years ago, when most local guys could leave their jobs to go on calls. The world is going corporate, and thats where the money is, and thats what everyone is chasing. When you get less than 1 volunteer per call on average, it is time to rethink your fire protection plan. When the volunteer chiefs ADMIT, that the volunteers can't respond to the call volume, It is time to rethink your fire protection. Time to close up the club house, and get serious about public safety, which is what fire fighting is all about, not parades and picnics.
