I don't have any real input but to remind you of this. In the years you have been on this board, I have read several of your comparisons and complaints about your department, if you find yourself in real leadership role with energy, power and motivation to change the way your department conducts operations, you may finally be in position to make the positive changes in your department you want to see. Maybe buy that thermal imaging camera, sign some M/A pacts with surrounding departments, maybe get some dual dispatch locations.
This might be a chance for you to turn your department into the department of the future, not the department of your past.

You guys must be crazy if you think that twinkies or any other Hostess Brand product is going anywhere. Someone is going to buy the manufacturing and marketing rights and make sure that we all have plenty of twinkies when the zombies come looking for brains.

it was only a matter of time once the voters in Nassau defeated the renovation of the Nassau Coliseum and the Barclay's center opened. Won't happen until the 2015-2016 season apparently either.

Federal Law requires all institutions of higher learning to release an annual report on violent/sexual crime on campus/the surrounding area. These reports are public information. While the blue lights you see on campus are not mandated by law, in essence, they provide a certain level of security to those men and women walking alone at night knowing everywhere they turn on campus they will be able to see at least one blue light. The cost to maintain them annually is certainly much less than the loss of revenue generate when students leave a campus because it is no longer safe.

The bid process distinctly has time lengths associated with it and thus any firm inflating their time projection will simply be not selected to complete the work.
Heres the real question: Is it worth spending a little extra to have such a major renovation completed early allowing to decrease the traffic and inconvenience along one of the largest and busiest arteries in Westchester Co.? My answer is certainly yes.

Your average brick in a brick house will expose you to more radiation a year than several chest x-rays. Each brick is roughly 7mrem/yr while a chest x-ray is roughly 1mrem/scan.
Had a load of bricks gone past the sensor, im sure that too would have set off the detector.
Im sure the reason why they cant bring them into underground places or places with high stone/brick/masonry is all of the radioactive elements naturally in the ground or included in the stone building material.
I dare anyone to take a scintillation detector and hold it up to any random brick, I am sure the radiation levels would be much higher than you expected.
I work with a form of radiation in one way or another almost every day, I am not afraid if it, what does amaze me however is how misinformed we as first responders are.

Really? Really? You are saying that a bunch of people having fun at a parade is "unprofessional". Are you kidding me? The real joke is that marching in a parade is even considered anything other then being fun. When departments take parades so seriously that members get reprimanded and "lose points with the judges" when they smile and wave at friends and family who are watching the parade, that is a joke. Marching in a parade and winning shiny trophies does not make you a good firefighter or a good fire department. Mill Plain is a GREAT fire department, who for years won A LOT of trophies marching in the "professional" manner and guess what? The guys are having more fun now then they did then. Keep things in perspective.

While I never got to know him in person, after years of interacting with him here I feel like I really got to know him. I will certain long for his well informed, reasoned and educated posts in the months and years that come. He gave a dose of sanity to at times what is certainly an insame board.

Its funny, I have the almost exact opposite opinion. I am not, nor should any one else be afraid of incidents like this. You never see mass murders at comic-con, and at comic-con there are probably 100 times as many people dressed up in costume or in character. This incident was the work of one crazed individual in one specific location, I bet this was one of only a few acts of violence at all of the thousands of movie premiers last night. This could have happened anywhere in the US and anywhere in the world. I do not nor will not let mad men like this nutcase ruin my fun. I will walk with my head high in the movies tonight unafraid, I will not be intimidated by the crazies in life and neither should you.

Obviously a different topic than the shooting in CO but the acceleration of aerial drone surveillance programs of American citizens on American soil, similar to what is done in Pakistan, Yemen, Iran, North Korea, Somalia, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan does come to mind when police state is mentioned....
