Does Pelham Manor have any interior-qualified members left? Maybe they took themselves off the run card?
Very few interior volunteers.
-
Where did you hear this about their vols? Are they disbanding the vols?
I read it in the Pelham weekly. Don't know anymore.

Pelham and Pelham Manor got called to fill Mount Vernon last night, and they are severely understaffed as well. It's not really these departments faults that they are understaffed, but the fact they are understaffed and leave their districts to cover another understaffed district is mind boggling.
They built up the volunteers and reduced the paid staff. Now there aren't hardly any volunteers left and the paid staff is at the same level. They need to hire more paid staff.

Didn't Pelham just appoint a new Chief?
I believe 1 of the Captains is acting Chief. They use to have a part time Chief. Prior to that it was a volunteer Chief.

This has been going on for years. I remember it when I was union president. I'de say it's going on over 30 years.

This issue has been going on for many years. Lots of talking but no solution to the problem.

All Chiefs are appointed and serve at the disgression of the Board. They can get anyone they want to be Chief by making the requirements fit. They made a fire fighter Chief over all the Captains and the Assistant Chief in my village.

That's not quite true. Even a civil service chief is accountable to the elected officials who approve their budget and other things under the municipal charter. Some may be more outspoken than others but they all still have a boss.
As for appointed ones, they're not all puppets.
-
Even if you're civil service and pass the chiefs test you are still appointed by the Board of trustees and the Mayor. A volunteer can also be appointed chief. Civil service appointment on volunteer, There are good chiefs and bad chiefs.

It can't be held in Playlands parking lot. It has to be held in warm weather and Playland would be open. Also there is no place to draft water and I believe it is salt water. When we couldn't have it at Kensico we had it at Croton Point park. What is wrong with Croton Point? It does take a long time to get it together. Rigs came from all over the country.

We were having it at Croton point park. Find out if Fairchester hose haulers still exists and also SPAAMFAA. Also you can try to contact A/C Warren Lyon from Pelham, NY. He could answer your questions.

I believe you have to go to the water company and get a meter. You have to pay the water company or you can be charged with theft of services. We had this happen once to a resident who would borrow some hose and fill his pool from a hydrant. He almost got arrested. He was a volunteer in our department.

When ever I took a test there was a monitor in the room. How did the monitor let them cheat in the first place.

The time I got for PM being dispatched was 6:21. That was almost an hour after the call came in. 60 control wasn't sure of the proper location. PM found the accident in the Bronx. N.Y.C was already operating. The call was in the Bronx and FDNY handled it. End of discussion.

How about this incident:
(Church van overturned in Cornwall)

I know it wasn't as bad as the bus incident, but it was still a major MCI.
I also remember a situation even further upstate where a double decker bus hit a bridge, causing a similar situation and killing four, that was also dealt with by the local departments
Yes, the situation may have been uniquely and beneficially dealt with because it happened in NYC, but, to say that NYC is the only place that can deal with a situation like that.

Pelham Manor with mutual aid assstance would have done a good job.
The guy who started this is a volunteer from Rockland county. He should worry about what would have happened if it happened on the N.Y.S. thruway. I'm sure N.Y.City would have been on the scene even if the accident was in Westchester.

What do you do if you only have 3 men on duty. One of them is the officer who's driving a rig. You put out a page for mutual aid. You hope enough men respond to send 4 men with the rig. Most departments other than the bigger ones are under staffed. That's the way it's always been. What do you suggest can be done about it?
