  11. I didn't see anything on this topic yet so I figured id start one up. I was wondering which departments are paid and how much of that department is paid. I know Mohegan has paid drivers but how many. Is all of East Chester, Hartsdale, Fairview, Greenville paid or is only one engine or 1 truck paid at a time. I will hear Greenville engine 150 going to runs and I won’t hear ladder4 that whole day. Then other days I will hear both going. This is what has really made me wonder. Also, I don’t hear Hartsdale going out that much, are they all paid or only partly? Is all of New Rochelle paid (most of the time I just hear engine 21 one day and 23 the next. I don’t ever hear them going out to different runs on the same day). Or how about White Plains. I hear they have a vol. co. I know I have a lot of questions but I figured it might solve some of my confusion with what departments are paid, what trucks are paid in that department, and are they on 24 hours a day or just the daytime like grasslands. This topic i just posted was just gone..poof! and i am posting the exact same thing so if anyone sees any problems with me asking this, can someone let me know what the problem is please!
  12. I was just wondering how many people have antennas for their scanners. What kind do you have (scanner and antenna) and how much does it increase the reception by? At the moment, I have an older scanner (radio shack PRO-2016) which I have in my room. It is about 4 feet from my window. I get ok reception but a lot of times it comes in sketchy if it’s a down county department or if it’s not a clear day. I can notice the difference in reception with putting the scanner by the window but my main question is would an antenna really help that much in not only better reception but also enabling me to get more departments. At the moment, it’s scratchy down county unless a perfectly clear day, I don’t get any CT departments, and I can’t get white planes or Yonkers. I live in Bedford hills so im not sure even an antenna will help with WP and Yonkers but I feel like I should at least be getting something in CT. I only live 15 mins. from the boarder.
  13. where could i get this scantenna, a store like radio shack or should i google it? EDIT: i just googled it. it looks kinda big. Does it come with everything that is needed to mount on the roof or do i need to build a mount?
  14. Im sorry to say this but the guys in the FDNY have a very dangerous job(as do the rest of us be i am talking about the FDNY now ). the city cant find the money to pay them a bit more then 25 starting and 63 max?....thats kinda low isnt it? i remember somone did the math here on emt bravo on i think it was around 23k and it came out to be somthing like $8 and change an hour. I make more money mowing lawns.
  15. In bedford hills, we use lukas tools. we got them before they were taken over by hurst. These things are very light, easy to control, and are powerful enough to get through alot. there are some jobs where we need to take a few extra bites in some new spots because its not the most powerful. i have never used hurst but i have picked one up. they are much heavier then the old lukas.
  16. its a photo magnet!
  17. i agree. 10-9 doesnt sound anything like 19. with any other #, that is the case

  19. id guess the pro 2025 is better. i think its also a combo trunking if you wanted/needed trunking. I have a pro 2016 which isnt sold anymore but it is a great scanner. just a question to put out there, besides uniden and radio shack, are tehre any other good worthy scanner brands?
  20. i've got a 2. I am not sure if its 60 control or not but ill get mine going off for no reason and i also have alot of times where it wont go off at all. so if it is the pager, i guess they havent fixed it from 2 - 5 i did hear that you could program and personalize the 5s more. somthing about putting different tones in.

  22. hah, is that why every time new ro gets toned, it sounds funky. I was getting them real good before yesterday but now it sounds all skechy.
  23. how about chicago...that would be cool. FDNY would be nice but do they even still allow ride alongs? i thought they stoped that. and to stat213, i wasnt saying it was right or wrong. i like how they are traditional and if they stay safe with little record of injury related to their way of firefighting, then good for them and id say keep going with what they're doing now. its like what the fdny said about wearing shorts as house dress, there is no big list of injuries related to them so why take them away.
  24. I love how some guys go "backdraft" with no bunkerpants and such. and with the pass alarms, the cool thing about the show is almost all of it is real, its not set up or anything, maybe some but if that part with the kid wasnt being filmed, the same thing would have happened. One thing i wish they would have had was maybe slow the show down a little. it was like once your off one job, bang, they got another. it just seemed that the show was on fastforward. over all though, id give it an A+!!! heres the TV listing thing... http://dsc.discovery.com/schedule/series.j...721&channel=DSC
  25. HAHAH poor cat.....943 so far
