  1. Plenty of ridiculous salaries and patronage jobs in the Park Service too but I get your point. It would be great to have it run by them until the next government shutdown when they close everything up!!!!
  2. Who said anything about the airport? There are no exits off of 684 in Connecticut. Only a section of highway between exits 2 and 3. My point was that the issue of an accident on an exit ramp is irrelevant to the discussion because the exits are all in NYS.
  3. Off the exit is not CT. CT is a span between exits 2 and 3. Stick to the topic.
  4. From what little facts are available, I get from this that the VAC couldn't cover calls and contracted with a commercial company to provide 12 hour coverage during the day. According to the article, a village spokesperson said their liaison wasn't allowed to attend VAC meetings and there were issues to be resolved. The village of Chester exercised their legal right and canceled the agreement with CVAC and retained the services of MLSS. Since General Municipal Law says the municipality can provide ambulance service, it seems to me that they are within their purview. Allegations of improprieties, golf games or gifts are purely hearsay. I can't believe the posts are even allowed to remain. People may not like it and there may be sour grapes but as long as calls are being covered, isn't that the point? I'm sure many more facts will be coming out as this grows legs in the media.
  5. Emergency services are businesses and there is nothing wrong with following sound business and financial practices. In fact some of the best volunteer chiefs/officers run businesses as their full-time job bringing their expertise and experience to the VAC/VFD.
  6. Um, it was not a "real" police car. Real would mean stolen from the NYPD wouldn't it? This was a crazy buff who decked out a car to look like a police car. Gee, that almost never happens. LOL
  7. Rookies should be taught that they don't know everything (anything) and have a career of learning ahead of them. Graduating rookie or probie school is only step 1 and they don't know squat yet. NYCEMT said it, you gotta keep learning or you're doing everyone a disservice.
  8. As we post these thoughts on the internet. LOL
  9. Neither Banksville or North White Plains are "towns". They are sections of North Castle. I'm pretty sure we beat this topic up pretty thoroughly a while ago. You may try searching for that thread. Personally, unless a suspect exhibits symptoms of something significant, there is really no reason for any EMS response for taser use. Lots of PD's let the cops remove the barbs at the precinct. Deploying when there is a "high likelihood of taser deployment"? You would have to put an EMS unit with every PD unit. That's just silly.
  10. Have you looked at the pay scale for the US Army? Paramedics may not earn enough but they earn more than a Sergeant with 6 years experience. Unfortunately mass shootings is now part of the job. Either we get onboard and start training up for it or we will continue to be unprepared and continue to be treated like the bastard step-child of emergency services.
  11. See above - different "divisions" within the NYPD - police, traffic, school safety, etc.
  12. What nationwide move is that? The commissioner wanted it to be clear that the moron driving a police car wasn't NYPD. Simply CYA and damage control. BFD!
  13. Who gives a crap? Just give me an ambulance that is well maintained and properly equipped. The days of massive 4WD and "road warrior" monsters is over. Let's all get back to reality.
  14. Wouldn't have had much of an impact anyway. It only applied to federal or state declared states of emergency so your missing work because of a structure fire or ambulance call wouldn't qualify.
  15. Most employers and/or unions have an Employee Assistance Program that can help employees/members with issues such as these. You shouldn't go through it alone and you should be able to get help without involving or informing your boss.
  16. I don't speak legalese either but it looks like they lost most of their arguments. How has the new operation been going up there?
  17. The majority of citizens don't know (and don't give a crap) about the inner-workings of a fire department. All they care about is someone showing up when they dial 911.
  18. If someone dials 911 in Somers, who do they get Somers FD dispatch or 60-Control?
  19. So I hear they got to use this vehicle for the little fender bender on the Bronx River the other day (24 cars/45 injuries). Just a question - who is providing the staffing for it once patients are on board? Is it PD, FD, or Empress? How many medical providers were aboard with the 21 patients during transport? Thanks for any insight.
  20. How is Haz-Mat Operations not a requirement for firefighters? That shouldn't be reserved for just officers or officer candidates. That's crazy and violates OSHA regulations. It amazes me that we still have these same discussions in 2013 (almost 2014).
  21. Meeting minutes? They didn't even post the election info or candidates names for the election yesterday.
  22. I remember some real frequent flyers in this area over the years and no matter how often you spoke to the hospital or medical control or anyone else, they never did anything about them.
  23. One person, one vote. I don't think you should vote twice (or more times) just because you're taxed. So if I own properties in multiple states, I should be allowed to vote in each state? That's nuts!
  24. And we should stlil do step 4 and vote them all out of office!
