  1. I guess "Lead by Example" didn't apply in this case.
  2. Maybe the patient did not want to get off at 125th street? Can you blame him?
  3. Don't let NYC DCAS hear about this, If they do I can only imagine what the next FDNY test will be like.
  4. Lucky rookie looks to quit cops for FDNY BY ERNEST NASPRETTO and ALISON GENDAR DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS Rookie cop Stuart Ingram, saved from knife attack by NYPD badge, may trade that badge for job as firefighter. He may soon be handing in the badge that saved his life. Rookie cop Stuart Ingram's application to join the FDNY has been accepted, and he can enter the Fire Academy's next class, the Daily News has learned. Ingram has long dreamed of joining the FDNY, but now finds himself in an awkward position. The smiling young cop was held up for praise by NYPD brass just two days ago after the badge pinned to his chest shielded him from harm when an alleged drunken driver stabbed him after nearly running down a nun, Hannah Cox. The blade shattered against Ingram's shield, allowing him to arrest his attacker and escape with only a cut on his finger. Before the clash, the 22-year-old had planned to leave the NYPD on March 12, police and fire sources said yesterday. Ingram's father is Fire Battalion Chief Robert Ingram. The rookie cop also has two uncles in the FDNY, relatives said. "He wants to follow in his father's footsteps," the cop's grandfather Robert Ingram said. "He took tests for both departments but didn't know when he was going to get called by the FDNY. He graduated from the Police Academy Dec. 26 . . . and then learned he would be in the Fire Academy's next class." After appearing on the front page of yesterday's Daily News for his heroics, Stuart Ingram was reluctant to say if he still intends to join the FDNY. "Once I hear something official, I can make my decision," he said. "I took that test when I was 17, so it was quite a bit before yesterday." An NYPD spokesman wished Ingram well whichever uniform he chooses, while Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch said the cop's potential exit illustrates wider recruiting problems. NYPD and FDNY recruits now earn the same salary - $25,100. But the new firefighters contract announced last night will raise the pay of FDNY probies to $35,000. "Unfortunately, the city will have to spend about $100,000 to recruit, screen and train someone to replace Ingram, and that person is likely to leave for a better job, too," Lynch said.

  10. Our department has 3 cheif's cars and the plan wass to replace them after 6 years, each car purchased 2 years apart. But 3 years ago 2 surburbans were purchased at the same time. We got some "deal" to get 2 and them painted red. Now one will be replaced after 6 and the other after 8. Hopefull then going back into the 6 year cycle.
  11. I wonder how often this department replaces their cheif's car, and how many do the have.

  18. Mahopac Falls has 2 on the way for chiefs trucks. They are going to be white, from what I heard you can not get the vicory red color any more, even from special order.
  19. Mahopac has a 2002 E-One ladder truck. Every one loves the truck; also you can not beat E-Ones service. Trucks are repaired by E-One Mechanics (not sub contractors) who only work on fire apparatus and most of time it’s in your own fire house. They are fast. I don’t believe our department has ever had a problem with their service. Also the only down time we have ever had with our truck was cause by operator error. It was a big mess, and it was quickly repaired by E-One in our own Fire House.
  20. The 1980 Seagrave, recabbed in 1990 and rehabbed in 2002, owned by the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department is now up for sale. DO NOT CONTACT STATIONS 33 or 46. KENTLAND ENGINE 334 (ORIGINALY ENGINE 333) FOR SALE
  21. We have had a problem with the generator killing the batteries for the 24 Dewalt Saws. When the generator starts it starts to charge the battery again. This puts a "memory" on the battery and it will never fully charge again.
  22. My department issues Leather N5A’s to all our members, the probies have orange shields to designate them. All our members love them and have no problems. Except for the newer ones, the “crash pads” in the suspension keep the helmet much higher on your head then the older style. As far as the bourkes I find them pretty much useless after you have your helmet for a while, I have tried goggles and didn’t them like. Best thing I have found is I keep a cheap pair of Home Depot safety glasses in my pocket. If they get scratched or broken it’s a lot cheaper to replace then the goggles.
