  1. Southwestern CT really does suffer from a lack of close and staffed SCUBA units. Not trying to rag on anyone in particular, but I personally think we all need to start coordinating efforts on that front. New Fairfield has 3-4 drownings a year, but no reliable SCUBA unit within 15-20 minutes of Squantz Pond.
  2. Yeah, the department DonDestro and I are in have been using the Fifty for some time, I agree that the NexGen is much heavier than the normal Fifty, but if you want heavy, you should try a 45-minute bottle.
  3. You mean the Drag Rescue Device? I think its a great idea... should make RIT work a helluva lot easier.
  4. I think if I was issued that gear, I probably wouldnt end up using the snaps or hooks. Zipper and Velcro are perfectly legitimate... Would seem over-redundant to have much more than two.
  5. I have seen a Westchester Chief's car (which will remain nameless) as far away as Brookfield, Connecticut on several occasions...
  6. Ok, I'll bite. I beg to differ. What happens now when the Chief, 1st Asst, and 2nd Asst are on scene 4 districts away and they get popped for another working structure fire in their home district? I see this alot in Putnam County. One district gets a fire and every department in the county sends at least one chief, even departments whose rigs aren't there! I can understand if your truck goes to send ONE Chief M/A, but these fires end up with a quarter mile of Red/White Suburbans leading up to the scene. I mean, come on, there has to be a point where enough is enough... As for the idea of "Ex" Chiefs, we don't take that too seriously over in Connecticut, you don't become a "Deputy" Chief after your tenure as Chief is over, but I have seen a few times when an Ex-Chief took command of a scene simply because he was an Ex-Chief, and you know what? It worked out fine. I think we sometimes get too hung up on helmet colors and don't look at the experience of the PERSON wearing the helmet. 200 years of tradition unimpeded by progress...
  7. Gordon and Johnson... end of story.
  8. I've taken the class, CSP runs it through State OEM/DHS, I just haven't seen the kit since the class.
  9. Connecticut also has a plan for the Mk1 kits, but its so secret even WE don't know when/where they will arrive!
  10. To the Chiefs and Commissioners who have a problem with their members speaking on this forum, there is a book that I think you should check out... 1984 by George Orwell
  11. Mostly we use telepathy...
  12. Speaking of the Ferrara, the finished (but unlettered) product is up on the Ferrara site. Looks like a monster.
  13. It all depends... If the car is on fire and the victims are trapped inside, and the Rescue is the first on scene... wouldn't they HAVE to begin suppression in order to be able to treat the patient? There are a few towns in New Haven County in Connecticut where the Rescue (which can transport) is the primary extrication unit, but they never roll without at least an engine and an AMR rig as backup.
  14. Honestly, I think we should get rid of them, I have several million, just from keeping them in the bank.
  15. Chris, the new Company A has arrived? If anybody is interested in pictures, they're located at www.nfvfd.org
  16. Also, the car was outfitted in CT, so the owner might be from Connecticut. Connecticut has slightly different regulations depending on your law enforcement/fire/EMS/OEM status.
  17. Chris, I think Skelly bought a new car, and thats what he did with it!
  18. Here's some links: http://www.firematic.com/trucksnew/danbury_hdr08/index.htm http://www.1strespondernews.com/webpages/n...a9-a42c92a93191
  19. Wait, new trains for the Danbury line? FINALLY! When does this thing go in service? The train running Danbury now runs with a high-pitched whine that makes me want to take a cordless drill to my temple.
  20. Someone mentioned that Anti-Crime ran RMPs... I thought they used unmarked or non-descript units. Any info on that?
  21. I don't understand why the officer had to flex his proverbial muscles while on scene. This isn't something that could be solved administratively? Save it for after the job and you'll spare everyone alot of unnessecary embarassment, and legal fees... If you have a problem with someone's conduct on a scene, bring it back to the bosses, don't make a jerk out of everyone who is there just to prove a point.
  22. Soon the members of EMTBravo will be changing the practices of fire departments everywhere, for fear of our relentless criticism. "Put everything on guys, we don't want this getting back to Bravo!!!!" Hey, if it works!
  23. This topic is frighteningly well timed, with the events in Brewster today being what they were.
  24. Kids should learn to respect cops. I for one have no problem with somebody getting tossed around if they mouth off to a cop. I'm probably in the same age group as the kid, but I, unlike him, have respect for the law. You can't skateboard in inner harbor, its clearly marked. So don't do it and you won't get hassled by the cops.
