  1. That won't happen, especially now that they are floating over $3 million in bonds to be payed back in who knows how long. This is interesting as most other municipalities are having problems balancing their budgets. What is Mount Vernon going to do in years to come to when will have to pay back these bonds? Sell the equipment, cut manpower or both?
  2. In my opinion Verizon is the better of the services as far as coverage. When I'm at work (in the bowels of Grand Central Terminal) I have little problem with getting a signal while co-workers of mine who have T-Mobile and AT&T do not get a signal.
  3. Not to get off topic but there can't be any more confusion over parking spaces than at North White Plains Station. There are a total of 4, yes 4 entities that are responsible for the various commuter lots at and around this station. The garage is Metro North (operated by LAZ). The out door Haarlem Rd lots are operated by the City of White Plains and there are two lots on Fisher Ln. One operated by Westcheter County Parks and Rec. and one by the Town of North Castle.
  4. Even with the clarification the whole thing is a gray area as far as I'm concerned with the exception of the train and the ROW (right of way). I also need to correct my first post, the MTA PD will usually have primary jurisdiction on the platforms as well as the trains. Local PD will usually have primary jurisdiction for the train station buildings (even though the MNR has the secrurity cameras throughout). Anytime a train crew requests police assistance they are required to call RTC (rail traffic control) who in turn calls MTA PD. ++ Prior to my current job in GCT (where there is a 24 hour MTA police presence) I've needed police assistance at some of the outlying stations. Anytime this happened I was required to call the MTA PD directly even though I could walk to the local police. In this particular incident prior to the actual assault (when it was only a fare evader) the MTA PD was supposed to meet up with the train in Westport as MNR would not have delayed the train for something with such a low priority.
  5. The whole jurisdictional issue trains and stations is difficult at best to understand. MTA PD has primary jurisdiction on the trains, however, in many cases local PD has primary jurisdiction @ the stations. Being the (alleged) assault happened partially on board the train and on the platform more than likely So No, CSP and MTA PD are all involved. What the article doesn't say is this fiasco started on the train in Darien where one of the three involved presented an obviously altered ticket (weekly tickets are NEVER good for a 1 1/2 weeks) to one of the conductors where the conductor told the girl she had to either pay the fare or get off the train at the next stop and the girl refused to do either.
  6. There is a hallway just off from the showroom with windows to view the production area.
  7. This was not a Metro North train loco but a CDOT SLE (Shore Line East) train deadheading to Stamford yards. Yes, these P-40 loco's are running in the area continuously. Metro North runs them on all three lines, Amtrak on the Hudson and NH lines and SLE on the NH line. Also, starting in September there will be New Jersey Transit trains (operated by MNR traincrews) on the New Haven Line. The loco's are NJT ALP46a's. At least that's what the qualifying test runs consisted of. I know these loco's are electric powered but still worth mentioning.
  8. According to the article, the reason the lab is being closed is that the lab is on airport grounds in exchange for the State Police providing security to the airport. Now the SP is no longer providing security. As a sidebar, does anyone know who is currently providing security at Stewart? Port Authority PD?
  9. It wouldn't matter. Simply put, you would have little to no chance even if you did.
  10. Here's the sticky from the IA forum: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=864
  11. NO No no.... It says she is going to be running for president in 2012. There is a big difference in the wording between "going to be" and "running". Although if she does run I will look forward to more Tina Fey skits on SNL. If she wins I'll look forward to possibly moving to Canada.
  12. Question for anyone that went already. They say life jackets are required for children under 12. Do they provide them? I'm considering going later today.
  13. Sizzler was somewhere between Dead Lobster and Poughkeepise Plaza (on the Poughkeepise Plaza side). Exactly where? It's been a while.
  14. That's a baaaaaad place for a White Castle. Why? Because it's walking distance from my house. As it is I usually go to the Fordham Rd White Castle in Da Bronx which is just inconvenient enough that I don't get it that often.
  15. I agree (to a point) that it's cool the bridge will reopen but at what cost???? Let me explain: New York State dumped in 16 million dollars over two years for the building of this walking park. Why am I upset about this?? Because there is much more important things that that money could have gone towards like closing the budget shortfall that the Metro North (and the rest of the MTA) has that ultimately EVERYONE has to pay higher auto registration and license fees and passengers have to pay approximately 10% more in fares. Because of New York State's incopetance , jobs are being abolished at work! So, let me ask, what is more important, opening a walking park that was once part of a railroad or funding the railroad that transports millions of people a year??? I guess I shouldn't complain too much, at least the state did something, unlike their games now.
  16. The game trains only run off peak hours. PERIOD! There is no special service to the stadium on the NH or Harlem lines (Harrison or WP) for week day games. Different options include transfer @ 125th St to the Hudson line, get off @ Melrose on the Harlem Line and walk to the stadium or possibly take a subway from Fordham although I'm not familiar with the subway runs. The only reason you will see weekday games address on the Hudson Line schedule is because the trains run past there anyway so there is just an extra stop added in on game days. During peak hours it is next to impossible to coordinate the NH and Harlem trains through the Mott Haven Interlock loop onto the Hudson Line with out disrupting the other trains.
  17. Every time I'm on a platform when a train comes through this happens. The other clue is when the display on the train says "Grand Central", it is not the game train.
  18. In the future, should you want to leave before the game ends you can take a local Hudson Line train to Harlem-125th and then transfer to a New Haven Line Train to your destination. If you bought your round trip already there may be a small step up charge, but I'm not positive. I'll try to find out later at work from one of the ticket agents. In the event of a rain delay or cancellation all the "game train" schedules are adjusted accordingly. If you don't want to wait out a rain delay the game trains will not be running to get you home but once again, take the short ride to Harlem - 125th and transfer to a New Haven train.
  19. At work yesterday I found out there was an emergency response drill last Saturday (May 16th) in Mount Vernon. I was told the drill involved local emergency responders in addition to Metro North personnel. Anyone have specifics on the scenario? Even better, pictures? The drill took place on the Harlem Line between Mount Vernon West and Fleetwood Stations.
  20. Thank you to those who served. More importantly, let us remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country as this is the true meaning of this somber holiday.
  21. The second in less than a week. Poughkeepsie Journal It appears from the picture that it's in the vicinity of Rivercrest Rd in the Town of Poughkeepsie (CP72). Also, while the picture isn't very good to know for sure, it appears the train in it is Amtrak (due to the curvature of the rail cars). To complicate matters, unlike Sunday's incident, Metro North's Hudson line has Amtrak making regular runs. Edit: It is indeed Amtrak 235 Northbound involved in the incident (confirmed from Metro North's radio chatter).
  22. North White Plains uses a siren.
  23. Don't know about jello but it was pretty darn close to a 10-75 from the way things sounded on the scanner. Sorry about the phone... One question, did the lady from the salon ever get the bleach washed out or did her hair disintegrate??? Regardless, sounds like you guys and gals did a good job with the evacuation.
  24. Thanks for posting the pics. What a blast from the past those are! "FD 5" was a 1966 International brush truck (mini attack). Originally identified as "engine 185" it later became Mini Attack 13.
