Good. Maybe next they can reverse the stupid surcharge that doubles our vehicle registrations as well.

The public doesn't vote because they don't care/don't know. If you gave them a reason they would turn out.

I love when the media explain what drugs do.

Also good if you want to bake a cake!

My problem is it doesn't come down to treating the patient. In a lot of places it comes down to treating the way you think your QA/QI guy would require it so that they don't make a stink and try to jam you up. Currently there is no STANDARD for how Tazered patients are treated. I hear everything from "they aren't a patient" (like above) to "they should be worked up because there is risk for cardiac damage" (like in the article, and some agencies not too far away do such).
I honestly think a policy statement from REMAC is in order here.

I still remember the Lifepak 5s. Had two halves and you connected the one side with the screen to the other with defib paddles on it via a cable. You could hook the patient up and connect it first to the portable Jonny and Roy type phone we had (I forget the name but I bet someone on here knows) and then you'd hook the "phone" (actually a UHF radio) to the monitor and it would display the ECG (only one lead at the time). Of course doing 12-Lead ECGs back then was UGLY.
Props to Terri and everyone else on a job well done. The technology to transmit the ECG didn't save this guy's life. He saved his own by not denying his symptoms. Medic Hart saved him by recognizing the MI on the 12-Lead and administering the proper treatment. The ambulance crew got him there safely. The hospital staff did their thing. And the doctor did theirs. All the transmission of the ECG does is tell the staff "HEY! WAKE UP! This is the real deal and the paramedic on the phone saying they have a STEMI isn't calling to order a pizza."

A local story that's hitting close to home for me: File under "The System Worked!"
On Monday, April 30, Ron Immel, EMT/Supervisor for Good Fellowship Ambulance Club, responded to a medical call, along with Chester County Hospital Medic 91.
While packaging the patient, Ron went to secure Medic 91's car when someone heard him collapse. Immediately, personnel found him unconscious behind 55's ambulance. He was found to be in V-Fib arrest,...CPR was initiated and he was defibrillated at the scene back into a sinus rhythm, ultimately regaining full consciousness upon arrival at CCH!
As of today, after a battery of tests, the cause was unknown and he is scheduled to be discharged tomorrow.
I can't attest to Ron's overall state of health, but as emergency providers, we work long hours, endure rapid escalations of stress, and probably don't eat the healthiest of meals when on-duty.
Personally, this time last year, I was 270 lbs, had tremendous back pain (in part due to advancing arthritis) and lost so much sleep I was nodding off at work. I'm now down to 225 and I have a few more to go (so says my doc ), but its not all about me - we all need to look after ourselves. We all won't have Ron's good fortune to be surrounded by a lot of competent care providers.
    Stay safe, brothers (and sisters)!

People died, young kid/adults died. To sit here and have a discussion about, ventilation and whether or not what those good samaritans was right/wrong, good or bad goes beyond words. Those people did what ANY of us in emergency services would do, HELP. Isn't that why we are all in this anyway ? To help people ? You can't fault someone for just trying to help to lives. To even attempt to go into a burning building with out any gear takes more balls than I could ever have, and those people should be given a pat on the back just for trying to get in there to save those people. This discussion makes me sick and im just as guilty to engage in this, nonsense. RIP to the young lives that were lost in this tragic incident.

    Time: Ongoing
Location: Wells Fargo -> Katonah Business District/Muscoot Reservoir & Farm
    Frequency: Bedford PD
Units Operating: Bedford PD, NYSP, Westchester County PD, MTA PD
Weather Conditions: Clear & unseasonably warm
Description Of Incident: Bank Fraud with flight from scene
    Reporters: Wells Fargo Bank
    Writer: WAS967
Bedford PD on active investigation. From what I could ascertain two men entered the Wells Fargo bank in Katonah (Katonah ave) and are currently wanted for bank fraud (I think I heard possibly trying to cash bad checks). One vehicle fled the scene and was attempted to be pulled over by units in the area of Route 35 @ Woodsbridge Rd (Rt-117) but failed to yield. Vehicle stopped and one suspect apprehended in the area of Route 35 & Route 100 in Somers.
Second subject still at large in the area of the Katonah business district, specifically in the woods behind Peppinos. Hotline description is of a black male 5'11" thin build with goatee wearing dark suit or wind breaker, dark shoes last seen on foot. MTA stopping trains to check for subject.
Aviation requested but have extended ETA for refueling.
We'll have more as it becomes available. Back to you in the studio.....
EDIT: Search called off at about 1600. Positive ID made of the male at large by conductor on southbound train. Made it to at least the White Plains station. Possibly the brother of the first suspect. Surprisingly I didn't see anything on lohud about this.
