  1. Saturday June 6th - Cortlandt Engine Company (Montrose) Sunday June 7th - Croton-on-Hudson (YES, CROTON GOING TO HAVE A JUDGED PARADE DURING THE "SUMMERFEST" STREET FAIR! IT'S BEEN A WHILE FOR ANYONE WHO CAN REMEMBER BACK THAT FAR!!!)
  2. Interesting question... I guess a lot of that would have to depend if there were any injuries or not. The positive side about a call like and an extrication that is the vehicles are pretty stable from the start. The downside of course there is no room to work. At the very least before moving the vehicles, if the people inside are injured, I'd want to get someone in throught the rear windshield to get a c-collar on and hold head stabilization. After that is done, the roofs could be cut and a vertical extrication could be done. Some people may consider that a little overkill for the situation, but as I said only if they are injured. I wouldn't want to be the one to call for a wrecker to move the vehicles while injured people are inside.
  3. Happy B-day Capt!
  4. A rare event occurred this afternoon in the City of White Plains. New Rochelle's 30A1, and White Plains Ambulance 1 were side by side at the White Plains Hospital ER bay. The 2 rigs are pretty much identical except for lettering, and the New Rochelle rig is a year older. (Oh yeah, and the New Rochelle rig was cleaner because I just finished washing it before this call came in! )
  5. I agree with you there, but based on the lack of brush work we do in Croton, and the amount of space the reel takes up, we opted to go without it. Do you have a lot of brush jobs in Maryland that it is that much easier to pull a booster than to pull an extra 2 lengths of 1 3/4"
  6. Another reason I don't like the booster... sure, it was easy to wind up after a call, but what about cleaning and repacking it for a parade? I dont know about anyone else, but I could never get that thing packed up right. Folding up 150' of 1 3/4" is so much easier.
  7. I'm not trying to stir the pot, but what would you define as correct usage? Anything within a structure requires much more flow than a booster line can put out. With modern synthetics and construction, the heat and fireload is way too much for that to handle.
  8. The Stadium is a very nice place, and as a huge sports fan, I love all the memorabilia. It's also a lot closer to home for me, but I think they are a little too pricey. I like the Claddagh because it's bigger, and prices are a little more reasonable.
  9. DITCH IT, DITCH IT, DITCH IT!!!!!!!!!! When we were going over the specs for our Seagrave, I was a little disappointed that there wouldn't be a booster reel. If nothing else, I liked it for cleaning equipment. After we got the rig, with the trash line on front that takes up a hell of a lot less space, and can be used for the same thing, I don't miss the booster reel at all. It's pretty much useless on anything other than a small brush fire or dumpster fire, and with the trash line, you can just take off one length and use that.
  10. On behalf of some of Westcheterites, THE CLADDAGH!!!!!!!
  11. I'm not sure. Supposedly with the plans to expand the ER, it's going to triple in size. I don't know where they are doing it, because as I'm sure you remember, there isn't a hell of a lot of room in that area.
  12. BATTLESCARS! Lol
  13. Yes and no. It's the same old entrance, reopened with a slightly new configuration. Once you walk in the second set of doors, same old ER. (For now anyways)
  14. Old Croton FD Rigs (Photo's from Croton Historical Society): Washington Engine's 1962 Mack Croton Fire Patrol's 1963 Mack Columbian Hook & Laddder's 1971 Maxim, after the ladder buckled at a fire in the early 70's
  15. I'm a big fan of the design, and I especially like seeing it on all the Dutchess county rigs now.
  16. Chris, not to second guess you, but are you 100% on that? The two officers of Croton EMS that have red lights in their POVs both have NYS DOH inspection stickers, and when the officers of Cortlandt VAC did, they too had DOH inspection stickers. I also remember looking up something similar under the DOH part 800 for BLS First Response vehicle. In order to operate as an emergency vehicle, there were Part 800 requirements to be met.
  17. DAMNIT! They screwed up the Avenger when they redid that, and I bet they'll do the same thing to the Durango! Everything else aside, the ONE THING I want chrysler to do is put a 6 speed manual in the Charger. That's the only reason I'd never consider buying one!
  18. This is one of those vehicles that I want to get behind on a highway, with an unfortunate buddy sleeping in the passenger seat next to me.... Imagine the suprise when he wakes up to screaming and then sees that facing him!
  19. I always wear mine, probably because thats how I was trained to get dressed from basic ff class back in 1999. But while we're on the topic, who like what hoods best. I've used the black nomex, white nomex, and PBI hoods, and I must say I like the white nomex ones the best. After using them a couple of times, they look nasty, but they hold up better than the black ones, and I think the PBI ones are just a little too thin. The black nomex ones are great for cold days on a motorcycle though!!!!
  20. "Command to Engine 1, I want you to back in to the driveway" "Ummm, Engine 1 to command.... how do you expect us to do that??"
  21. Don't hold your breath on Westchester. It took a very long time for the last one to come out. Also, I know of at least one person (my girlfriend) who hasn't taken it yet, but gets a special test date because she's active duty in the Army. Don't fear though, she's back at the end of this month, and has to notify the county within 2 weeks, so if she's the reason it's taking so long, it shouldn't be much longer!
  22. Hey... while the Mack may be old, do you have to call it a pig?!? lol
  23. Are you referring to the police exam? If so, no, I haven't received my score yet.
