If the snow ends up being as bad as Accuweather is predicting, maybe some of the local departments can retro-fit some of their exisitng FD Fleets to help plow some of the snow : ) LOL

Courtesy of "The Man" Joe Pinto, here is the YFD TL "855" as it looked as originally delivered as assigned as Tower Ladder 71 (As R1Smokeater referenced above), as well as (Courtesy of Ron C) the Repainted Look of YFD TL "855" as TL71
I really like this original paint job and the "Original Light Bar" on top of the cab (All Red with White Pin Striping), rather than the White on Red repaint job as referenced in the 2nd photo)

Reported Water Ride accident yesterday at Mountain Creek Water Park in Vernon, New Jersey (the site of the former ACTION PARK [aka "TRACTION PARK"])
Very interesting point is that this season is the FIRST season that the Mountain Creek Water Park is under ownership and management of Eugene Mulvihill, the former owner of ACTION PARK (Traction Park). During the years prior to this, when the Water Park was under the ownership of Interwest Corporation out of Canada, there were no reported accidents (unlike the years prior to the opening of the Water Park as "Mountain Creek Water Park" when it was known by many in the Tri-State Area as "ACTION PARK" where people were carted off to local hospitals regularly, due to ride accidents, as well as a couple of deaths reported at the park.
Would you let your child go to Mountain Creek this year, knowing who owns the park and the history that this "Owner" has with issues reported at "His Park" ???????

Last of the YFD Macks (unless you count Engine 298 [The Old Engine 306] that I believe is being stored "downstairs" at Station 8 [Alongside "Truck 5"] as a YFD Antique/Parade Unit).

As an individual who is not a professional firefighter, but rather a professional in the fire safety equipment industry, it is mind-boggling that a municipality, like the City of Mount Vernon, continues to play games with the safety, protection and life-saving efforts of its citizens and the property within the city. Back in the 1960's and early 1970's, the staffing levels and number of pieces of fire apparatus were at, in my "non-professional" opinion, proper levels (Engine 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6, Truck 1, 2, 3, & 4, Rescue 1, and FDMV Ambulance 1). Now, and for several recent years, the staffing and manning levels within the city have continually been questioned. Even recently, staffing and apparatus levels in the City of Yonkers have been questioned by politicians and union leaders. Looking back at the City of Yonkers, back in the 1960's, YFD was running 13 Engine Companies, 7 Truck/Ladder Companies and 1 Rescue Company. Now, YFD is running at 11 Engine Companies, 6 Ladder Companies, and 1 Rescue, with city leaders wanting to cut the current number by even more.
Some people (Professional and Non-Professional) here on EMTBravo.net, have commented on how the possibility of having a Consolidated County Fire Service (even if it was just those Career Only Departments), within the County of Westchester, might help in assisting in ensuring municipalities, such as the City of Mount Vernon, have proper and adequate coverage. Some have mentioned that, by doing this, could save tax payer dollars, as well.
It appears as if "Politics" is playing a role in both the current status within the City of Mount Vernon, as well as ability to move the idea of the consolidation of fire services throughout the county, from a "Concept/Study" position, to a position of making it a "Reality"
Lives and Property continue to be placed in serious jeopardy, while people haggle over political non-sense.
It just makes one think about the days back in the 1960's, when an issue such as this, was not even an after-thought. HMMM??

Now if he had a Old YFD Helmet (or Faceplates) for YFD Engine 1, Truck 6 and Truck 7, that would be a rare item indeed. Those 2 front faceplates from YFD Helmet Engine 5 (not 305), I would say would be the "Honus Wagner" of YFD Helmet Faceplate Collectibles.

Now that the Mayor and City Council approved the 2013 Budget, agreeing not to fill the 30 open positions with the YFD, does this mean that the city will proceed in eliminating Engine 312 and Tower Ladder 71, as last reported just prior to the budget being passed. Also, does anyone know if the First Responder Program has also been eliminated?
(This is absolutely insane, given the recent industrial development in the city [ie: Ridge Hill (with proposed new fire house included, Stew Leonards, etc] and the proposed new downtown development)
Look back to the YFD levels back in 1975 compared to today:

Yonkers, be prepared to hear the same thing that was proposed a few years ago. Station 8 will CLOSE and Engine 308 will cease to exist. YFD will move Squad 11 to Station 7 and then proceed to CLOSE Station 11. Ladder 70 will cease to exist and YFD will move Tower Ladder 75 to Station 14 to replace it (vs. the better alternative of moving TL 75 to the propoposed to be closed Station 11)
Wake up Yonkers, because the administration will more than likely propose these cuts within the YFD to close the budget gap. Add to this, you will most likely hear that the Sanitation Department will again propose a 1 day a week collecetion schedule. Then you will have the same slow down and piles of garbage seen on the sidewalks this summer and the city will smell like a sewer. You will also probably again watch the DPW Union heads, while attending a public city haul meeting, treating women reporters covering that meeting, like they were street walkers on the lower west side of Manhattan.
Police Cuts will now allow the gangs of Yonkers to have free reign on the streets of Yonkers. Willow Avenue will again be "GANG CENTRAL" for them to have as they like.
Yonkers, the Emerald Citiy !!!

sfrd18 liked a post in a topic by 61MACKBR1 in Rye considers change to fire department structure
Another reason why a complete county-wide consolidation plan for fire services makes sense. In the long run, it will save communities tax payer money and allow for efficiencies and better response, with properly trained personnel at fire/emergency sites.
I know that Barry is an expert in this and I am sure that the time spent on his own dime was greatly appreciated by everyone in the City of Rye. However, it appears as if this solution may only be a "band-aid on an open wound" (although the "Open Wound" may take YEARS to ever come to being)
