  3. I remember just how nice the weather was that day...crisp blue sky, perfect temperature. I was attending UCONN in Stamford that day..just beginning my Freshman year. I actually had the same class as my brother...Bio 107. The class actually started right after 9, but I hadn't heard anything until another student came in and said the Towers were hit. At first I thought it was small planes, but I still just wanted to get out of the class and see what was happening. Unfortunately, the teacher would not let us leave, didn't seem to care what was going on, but continued to teach. That was one class day that I would have remembered nothing she said, and it took me until the drive home to find out what was really going on. Then when I got home the magnitude of the attack really hit me.
  4. I just took the Nat. Reg. Exam for my EMT-B in June. The new system is by computer where they ask you a question and you have to answer it before moving on to the next. I don't know about the NYS exam because I'm from CT, but the National is very, very difficult. The test is very situation based, I would review the kind of things you need to do for a specific situation. I would think your EMT books would suffice, as long as they aren't too old. Hope this helps some.
  5. fdnytrucks.com has all the departments listed with their addresses organized by borough.
  6. Yes this is correct. The first time I ever took the CPAT I practiced extensively. If you have never done the test before, I suggest the orientation...you may think it's a waste of time, but you get to try everything out and know what you're getting into. And I'll second that it's a difficult test, but passing it gives you a sense of accomplishment.
  7. My pictures have been posted on www.coscobfire.org of the house fire Greenwich had on 6/27/07.

  10. The ladders are in the center of the rig under the hosebed as stated. This engine has similar specs to the towns current Engine 3 and 51 which are 04 models. Also, Engine 4 is still a 2001 E-One, and wasn't replaced by the new rig. And it is indeed a nice looking truck.
  11. Don't know if Yonkers have received the new Ladders yet, but I just saw Ladder 74 on I-95 in the Greenwich area, heading towards Yonkers. Looks like it was being delivered as it was all polished up. Nice looking truck so start looking out for them.
  12. Some of the photos I took of the fire have been posted on www.local786.org, Stamford Fire's website. Matt

The driver was okay, but the car took out a light pole before stopping against a tree.
  14. I believe that would Engine 89 and Ladder 50, but I could be wrong. Matt

  20. Since we're talking about frequencies.... For Port Chester, on my scanner I will hear 60-control talking, but I won't hear the Port Chester units talking to 60-control or among themselves, which I used to hear. Does PC have another frequency they are using to talk now, or maybe I am having a problem with my scanner?
  21. Hi I'm Matt from Greenwich, CT. Many know me as Zinger Jr. I am 22 years old, recently graduated from UCONN. I am a member with Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company in Greenwich for a year now, but I am trying to get on a paid department in my area. I have been around the fire department my entire life since my dad is a career guy in Greenwich, and a volunteer with Brooksville in Port Chester.
  22. An excellent rail site is Railpictures.net. It's updated everyday with photos virtually from all over including Metro North. Coming from a rail fan myself, it's a great site. You could get lost for hours on that site. Matt
  23. For the CPAT, I recommend going to the orientation after you sign up, if it's your first time...basically walks you through exactly what you have to do.
