not to get off topic here but i have seen a few posts that disturb me. to the posters here that are volunteer firemen and are not cops, you are entitled to your opinion but you sound pretty stupid commenting on police procedure and how we do our jobs when you now NOTHING about it. From you locations on your profiles you guys live where crime really isn't a problem but here in the real world cops have to use every tool in our arsenal to get the job done which most times isn't the easiest task because liberal morons who worry about civil rights and the 4th amendment make our job more difficult than it already is.
I'm sure this will be deleted by the admin or i will catch hell from the other posters for this but I think it had to be said.

Henry's family should be PAYING the Police Officer $120 million, not suing for it. There son attempted to murder Police Officers and placed other innocent persons in grave danger by attempting to run over the Police Officers while driving drunk. The Henry family should be hanging their heads in shame and owe the Police Officers an apology for the criminal actions of their son.

Since Officer Hess was not charged by the grand jury, he is not liable for any damages whether they be punative or compensatory. Officer Hess has been through enough stress but this federal civil trial will only add more stress. Even though he is not liable, these trials take a lot out of you.
I recently had to undergo a federal civil trial in foley square because a perp that got convicted of assaulting me and is currently serving 6 years in prison sued 6 of us for excessive force. After a week long trial I was found not guilty but it sucks because you are the defendant in federal court and thats a position no cop wants to be in.
Hold you head up P.O. Hess, you are a hero and you saved multiple lives that night and NOBODY can take that away from you.
When the trial starts I and I'm sure many Police Officers will male the trip to foley square to support officer hess and his family.

Congratulations to Officer Hess, on receiving this prestigious award from his colleagues, well deserved, I might add.
Regarding the expected (over)reaction and orchestrated response from the Henry family, que sera sera.
Let me go way out on a limb, here, if I may... I often wonder...
if anything would have wound up any differently in regards to this entire incident, if the police officers involved with the shooting , were black? Or the alleged assailant, white?
I'm going to go out even further... I bet nobody involved in this is going to be having a cold beer with President Obama, anytime soon.

I applaud the PBA for giving this award to P.O. Hess.... he saved lives that night and is a hero.. END OF STORY
As far as the feds go, they are on a witch hunt in westchester county and will stop at nothing to hang a cop, even if it's under false pretenses... we all remember how the FBI agent that was investigating Det. Quinoy in Sleppy Hollow tampered with evidence to try to get a conviction.
But no matter what the feds say, it will not change the fact that PO Hess is the Pleasantville PBA's officer of the year !!!

    From the article on Lohud:
"It's a group of about 20 men supporting their friend," said Angella Henry, D.J. Henry's mom. "DJ had over 2,500 people at his Celebration of Life. It speaks to the arrogance and inhumane treatment that our family has had to endure since October 17th. Aaron Hess is currently under investigation by the Justice Department. I guess he can kill an innocent person and be named officer of the year. I would be worried if I lived in the county. It will happen again and the next officer will receive an award. This gives a negative strike against all of the upstanding and honest officers."
I don't know about you all, but reading this a few times just made me more and more upset. Kill an innocent person? I am not one who is as savvy with the inner workings of the law as some of the members (hats off to all of you officers) but hitting a police officer with a car does not make you an innocent person. Then the last few lines are even better, taking shots at pretty much all of the officers in Westchester. I just really think this is full of so much (insert word) and I hope that at the end of all this litigation they're finally going to run out of things to complain about. Congrats on your award Officer Hess, I wish you the best on your continuing recovery from your injury and this mess.

First of all, his father doesn't appear to be politically powerful at all. Ever see him interviewed; he's barely articulate, let alone powerful. And second, your posts in general are baseless. You seem to imply it's not only possible, but even likely the Feds will pursue this case. What do you base this on? All of these incidents are reviewed by the Feds, only the most egregious are pursued, and by all standards, this case is far from egregious. Your bias is palpable, groundless, but palpable nonetheless.

Police Officer Aaron Hess is a hero and saved lives the night that Criminal Danroy Henry attempted to run over Police Officers and may have killed civilians in the process. Its very simple:
    1) PO Hess = good guy.
    2) Criminal Henry = bad guy.
    Any questions?

Screw the family of DJ Henry. I for one am sick of their sh*t. He tried to run down a police officer and died in the process. Boohoo but I dont lose any sleep on it. I congratulate PO Hess for this award and commiserate the split second decision he made, while that decision needed another individual life, the decision was made to protect the officers life and public safety in general.

I have ZERO sympathy for people who put drugs into their bodies. They know the risk... if you get a hot bag and thats the end of the line for you, tough s***.. you did it to yourself.
I would much rather see the time of EMS spent helping the victims of Emergencies who didn't cause the situation themselves.
    Just my opinion

Sssshhh...it really is EFD's Rescue 5 making a comeback. At the last minute they're going to switch out the door decals. But at the apparatus show, who's going to bother looking at a new Rescue if it says Eastchester on the doors?
Here's how the conversation would go..
FF1 (name is Chester): "Woo wee...that sure is a pretty Rescue Vinny..."
FF2 (name is Vinny): "Chester, Eastchester..Where the hell is that?"
    FF1: "It's up in Westchester."
FF2: "Run that by me one more time Chester..."
FF1: "It's only a few miles south of Port Chester.."
FF2: "And that's in Westchester Chester?"
FF1: "Yes. Port Chester and Eastchester are in Westchester."
FF2: "Where is the beer concession Chester?"
    FF1: "THIRD BASE!"

I actually enforce this law because it pisses me off when headlights aren't on! Many people break the law in bad weather because they think LEO's don't like getting wet. What's a little water when you get to see the look's on the driver's face!

Get back to basics, it's about US first... Our safety is PARAMOUNT TO ALL ELSE. I've been on the job 12 years now and I try to look over the new guys and try to correct any tactical mistakes that they make and I urge all veteran cops to keep an eye on the new guys... the one tactical suggestion that you make to a new cop may be the one that saves his life one day.
God Bless Our Fallen Officers... You have my love, honor, admiration and respect... You are true heroes. Gone But NEVER Forgotten.

  25. nwpfdjr27 liked a post in a topic by Just a guy in Why Are Police Officers Down Here So Different?
Ive read this post many times and I still fail to see the reason for posting it but it most certainly requires a response.
From what I know of you, you have no background in Law Enforcement so your ideas of how cops should feel about being cops and what they should do on duty may be how it is in a perfect world but in reality thats not how it works. This would be like me who knows nothing of fire fighting making critical observations about the fire service and putting all over the post " No offense guys" and " this is not a knock to firefighters".
As far as I've seen, you're the only member on here from texas so you are the only one who could answer your own question of " why are police officers down here so different ?"
I've been a cop for 12 years and I go balls to the wall every day I go into work as do most cops I know. Would it be nice to follow up with every crime victim we deal with ? Yes but we don't have the time or the manpower to do that stuff. How do you know that cops up here don't know their post as well as cops in Texas ?
Cops are in a unique situation to be cross trained in rescue, where as FD's can't be trained in law enforcement specific things... thats just the way it is.
You ask why is there competition ? There always has and always will be competiton in the emergency services and it's healthy to a degree.
You ask why are there not more hudson river patrols ? There are in the summer but not so much in the winter but what does one thing have to do with the other ?
The bottom line is that expanding the scope of your working capabilities means more job security and possibly more state and federal funding.
The biggest difference between cops up here and cops in texas is that maybe cops in texas enjoy a lot more community support than cops in the north east get.
