  1. All, as i said in my clarification of my original post (and has been said by numerous FDMV guys), what i meant was that the RIGS being used by Engines 5 and 6 were going to be the ones replaced. The new rigs will not be assigned to those companies though. There will be a rearrangment of apparatus.
  2. To clarify my earlier post, those are the two rigs that are the oldest in the City of MV. The new rigs might not end up at the Stations currently housing E's 5 and 6, but those are the ones that will most likely be pulled from service.
  3. Cam, I can remember when i was younger and Eastchester still used theirs. From my house, you could hear the horn coming from Chester Heights but it was very faint (and i live at the north west corner of the Village). You could tell based on which direction the noise came from if it was the Pelham horn or the one in Eastchester.
  4. They will replace engines 5 and 6 (or by county numbers, 205 and 206). Those companies are both running old E-One rigs.
  5. 901 is gonna have to watch his back. I'll be on the look out for them as well. (which means i hope 901 pulls some yonkers shifts or even 38M1 for a week or so after they arrive). Sounds great, cant wait to see them in action. Also, just wondering if anyone has word on MVFDs new Seagrave Tower. I havnt seen in at Station 3 in a while. Truck 2 over there is also out. Whats goin on?
  6. I'll throw the party, but someone else better bring the Johnny BLUE
  7. That Pelham Manor job was actually within spitting distance of I-95 at the Biltmore Apartments on US 1. Just about everyone and their mother was at it. My DC had parked his personal vehicle on the side street and when he finally got out of there around noon, an FDNY tiller was set up where he had been parked. Ive also seen FDNY go to work on the Hutch just over the border (US 1). They usually have the box long before the Westchester dept. gets it and will ride as far north as the exit next to Pelham High School to find it.
  8. Test is supposed to be held this coming June with registration taking place early next year.
  9. Yeah, that looked pretty cool. I saw 308 running a Mack the other day at the 2 alarmer. Much neater than seeing a spare and not knowing who is using it.
  10. Easiest place for you would probly be AAA in North White Plains. However, gear is very expensive. I suggest you wait to be issued gear from your dept. That way you are conforming to their rules and regulations and there wont be any problems.
  11. Pelham L2 is now due sometime early next year. Word is hopefully by Feb. It is a 100' rearmount Seagrave with a low-profile cab. As for E5, there has been some talk of purchasing a used piece of apparatus from the FDNY. I do not know what stage those talks are in or if there are other ideas being floated at this time. As for Pelham Manor, Hoss or Eclemente might be able to answer those.
  12. Pelham Manor has a paid chief. Pelham's is a volunteer but does get a stipend (you make a decision on what category to put him in).
  13. The horn puts out a Box number. For Pelham, it is three digits long, using only the first 5 digits (1,2,3,4,5). For a highway entrance, the last number may be a 6,7, or 8 however these are usually not transmitted. The tone of the horn does not change based on the type of call. To properly determine what box is being blown, you count the number of times the horn blows with a short silence between blasts. The longer silences indicate a break in the numbers. The box is transmitted twice and is primarily a back up system for those who are not with their pagers or who are currently in a dead zone within the Village.
  14. Last night at that time and at 1800 during the week is Pelham. We went on an alarm to the north end of the Village which is why you also heard the apparatus sirens. We still use our horn regularly, despite some complaints from Village residents. Pelham Manor has an "air raid" type horn that was not used for several years but i have heard it fairly recently a few times to alert members of calls. As for Larchmont, im not sure about theirs. Maybe DRD could answer that.
  15. Last i knew, they were not allowed to leave the Island. Anyone know how far the next nearest company is?
  16. Theres a reason why street racing is ILLEGAL, and emscomm80 summed it up pretty well. If it werent illegal, then there wouldnt be any speed traps ever cause you could almost always use it as an excuse.
  17. CAM, Is the new foam rig in the city? I know it came a while back, but has it been painted yet and furnished with all the necesities? Also, any idea when the new TL 3 is due to arrive?
  18. There are constantly officers on the Tuckahoe Rd overpass with radar guns. This too is part of the same operation. Its a big speeding area and extra enforcement of the speed limit will only help to save lives. As it is, the area of Central Ave and Arlington St. is a pretty dangerous one.
  19. I think they should get rid of the garage altogether. It is an eyesore and im sure they could then use the area for more parking. Removing it might also help raise some of the surrounding property values.
  20. I like it a lot. gives you quick access to all your current info and stats. great addition
  21. Try these two topics already covering your question: http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=65...l=diamond+plate or http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=15...l=diamond+plate
  22. Pelham is awaiting a Seagrave 100' rear mount aerial to replace the current Ladder 2. Delivery is up in the air due to the FDNY order that has to be completed.
  23. The TL, or Tower 1, the old mack truck, is the current spare ladder for MVFD. Truck 3 is a bucket, more of a "platform" truck though, rear mounted with the bucket hangin over the cab. As of this posting, L2, a Seagrave rear mounted straight stick, is out of service. TL 1 is running out of HQ on Lincoln Ave. So in theory, MVFD is running 2 towers right now.
  24. I heard the part about them falling out with a sick or wounded goose a while ago. It always amazed me that they would never let any of their kind go it alone and that there are always at least two flying together. A lot can be learned from the wildlife thats out there.
  25. Could there be a possibility of putting a THIRD tower ladder in service in the city? Something having to do with the proposed ridge hill development maybe?
