Route 9 Southbound was open during the investigation. I had no clue what was going on until I passed the scene and you could see the ambulance. Hopefully the crew will pull through.

God Bless

Is the critical transfer from HVHC to WMC an EMS crewmember?

This was an Empire State Ambulance involved in the accident?

Any other facts at this point?

May he pull through and make a full recovery, god be with him and his family. Hows the other crew member? Was there a pt in the rig with them or were they enroute to a call?

And for those of us stupid people...what the heck is an MOS????

Let us know as more develops.

Thanks

Passing along the following. Please pray for the member's family (both home and work), they have some tough times ahead.

This morning, an Empire State Ambulance was returning back from a transport along Route 9 in Garrison, Putnam County. The tech was in the back catching some "Z"s while the driver returned to base. In a split second their lives were changed forever. The driver (one of our graduates) fell asleep at the wheel and struck a tree, wrapping the ambulance around it. The tech was thrown about the back suffering head,& neck injuries.

He went into cardiac arrest enroute to the hospital but was resuscitated. He was transferred by helicopter from Hudson Valley Hospital to Westchester Medical Center where he will give the ultimate gift that any EMS provider who dedicates his/her life to saving lives should: organ donation.

The driver escaped with minor physical injuries, but I am sure the psychological wounds will last a very long time.

Please keep both of these individuals in your thoughts & prayers. We think of private transports as "a piece of cake" but incidents such as this show that no part of EMS is completely safe.

Always remember to never leave home angry at your loved ones and always give them a hug & kiss. You NEVER know!
