Santa and Fire apparatus

16 posts in this topic

JetPhoto brings up a good question and it should have mixed results.

Should Santa be driven around on apparatus that is owned by the taxpayers?

Where do or should we draw the line?

As long as Santa is a member or employee of the dept and makes the kids smile, I am all for it.

Santa barely represents any holiday other than commercialism these days!

To those who would oppose a visit from good ol' St. Nick, I would ask - "who else do you want to see on the firetruck?" (Then of course I'd add Bah Humbug!)

Then next year you put them all on the ladder truck - one for each of the 95 steps on the 95' aerial 'cause that's how many special interests are gonna pop up.

If done safely, and in the spirit of the community (not a holiday or religion per se) go for it!

I absolutely think it's worth driving Santa around your municipality to bring smiles to kids. First as it was said before, Safety First. as long as Santa is properly secure, why not drive him around the town. Besides the kids getting all excited it's great PR for any fire department. If i were not affiliated with a fire department I would be disappointed if one year they stopped driving around with Santa in Elmsford. Having Santa wave to the young and old is a fine tradition that we should keep.

My vote is the bring the big guy around and spread the Holiday Cheer. What is going to cost, some fuel?

And Thats The Memo

Have a Very SAFE Christmas and Happy Holidays

I think one would be getting a little too serious to worry about driving Santa around on a taxpayer owned truck, besides it is good PR.

There is no problem driving Santa around as long as the vehicle is going to respond to alarms and not be "unavailable" because of driving Santa. I've responded to calls with Santa many times.

The kids love Santa coming around with candy canes. The parents love seeing the kids be with Santa and take pictures. Sure, you get the occasional Scrooge's but that's the breaks. You can't please everyone so don't even bother trying.

Often it is the consensus not to impede on the rights of people who may be offended by a symbol of faith or any tradition we enjoy. What about the rights of us who wish to see such symbol. There has been court orders dictating no display of xmas decorations because usually a few find it offensive. It would be a shame if a judge would deny ( if it ever went this far) children the enjoyment of seeing Santa on thier street riding on a fire truck.

I believe any practice of faith should not be denied. I also believe there are more important issues we face such as taxes, the price of gas, war, etc.

Merry Xmas !!!!

What's even worse is that his profile lists him as a rookie school instructor. Cover your ears probies! Public relations is still good. I know there's a class in now and he or she is hopefully using this as an experiment. If not, bah hum bug on you!!!

I want to know when in this country did the needs of a few outweigh the needs of the many?

Get 3 people together and oppose something and right away this person gets fired, that person can no longer do this or that. This country is giving way to what the terrorist want, destroy our freedoms from within.

Now please don't be offended by my political rant.
