My humble opinion is that Pelham Manor and Pelham should combine, it should have been done a long time ago. They are too small to operate as two departments. It will be interesting where this will go if anywhere. I also think that the career depts of southern westchester should combine with one or two volunteer companies that are well trained and equiped. In my opinion it just makes sence. For example its stupid that if an Eastchester engine is sitting a few hundred yards from houses in Mt. Vernon that it not role in an emergency just because those residences are in "the Vern" and there are many more examples like this. You could also argue that this could be done in N. Westchester as well as mostly volunteer. This would create more man power and better training. Combination is the tax saving answer of the future...this could also be considered for the town and villages PD's as well as the town and villages DPW's/. I also think that the school disctircts could be consolidated as well. One school district per town and get rid of the village school districts.

Forget helmets and safety belts. The practice needs to stop. Hopping on between properties or across the street is not enough of a time saver to justify the risk. We hear about the catastrophic injuries, but what about more minor ones that still result in lost days or even permanent injury?

With a full fleet of Crown Vics and F550's the only things in our shop today was Chevy pickups and Internationals. I was never a Ford fan but they are pretty reliable for us.

The fact that you want to donate your time is great. The only diffence is that the town is a combo dept and the village isnt. Stop in a house in both and see what their residency or work requirements are. Since you live in a area that no longer has volunteers one of these depts should allow this not to be a problem. Only my opinion. I work with a few guys from the village and will ask them about this when I return to work tomorrow.

From personal experience as a municipal mechanic we have tried many different brands of lighting to save money. We realized that its cheaper to buy a brand such as Whelen once with a 5 yr warranty than something cheaper and have to replace it multiple times within those 5 years.

The municipality that I work for I believe has a 50 mile limit without permission. Anything over that, permission is needed. Hope this contributes to the original post.
