I'm not too familiar with airbag operations, so maybe someone can clear this up. Why were the additional air bags necessary? I thought the procedure was chock, lift, chock, platform under the bag, lift, chock, platform, and so on until you're where you want to be.

Continental Village and Garrison both carry airbags on their rescues and Garrison also carries a complete Rescue-Jak system.

Would it have been appropriate to call for a tow truck to help raise/stabilize the vehicle? Depending on where they come from and where the incident is, they can be there pretty quick...

Not to replace the airbags but as another resource!

once IC was established they called for rescue 134 right away. smart move and good choice. Montrose carries air bags on R-51 and we have the jack system as well.

The tow truck was good thinking on the IC's part, it sounded like a pretty hectic scene.

Just a warning to every dept the has the rescue jack system my dept just purchased it and during the demo while lifting the car one of the pins ripped the sheet metal on the car and the car fell back onto the ground. Be very careful if you are operating under the car trying to remove a pt.

This just goes to show the importance of good cribbing.

I agree with Doc, good cribbing is a must for a good back up. Also, be carefull where you anchor the Jacks, try and use something firm and sturdy like the frame, or a post. They do come with attachments that allow you to use chains as well, wrapping the chain around a post, or frame, than using the jack to pull instead of push, than stabilize with cribbing will help as well.

We carry air bags, air chisels, jacks, cribbing, come-a-longs and porta-power on our rescue to name a few tools.

Hope the woman is OK, anyone have an update on PT condition?

Buchanan woman struck by garbage truck in Cortlandt in critical condition

By Terence Corcoran

The Journal News • March 5, 2008

CORTLANDT - A Buchanan woman hit by a garbage truck in the parking lot of the Cortlandt Town Center was in critical condition today at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, state police said. Kathleen Pritchard, 43, was struck by the garbage truck around 1:45 p.m. yesterday in the shopping center lot near a McDonald's restaurant, police said. State police Investigator Matt Manza said the Suburban Carting garbage truck driven by Paul Troy, 50, of Wappinger Falls was rounding a corner near McDonald's when he ran over Pritchard. Troy told police that he stopped his truck when he heard the woman's screams. Firefighters from Mohegan Lake and Peekskill responded and used air bags to lift the massive 10-wheel truck off Pritchard.

No charges have been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation, Manza said.
