who is the chief in the first picture?

I don't know the past Chief history in Wassaic that well but... was George Butts a Chief??

The first picture is Asst. Chief Don Barlow and yes George Sr. was Chief from 1953-55.

Pretty amazing that even before FFs were dressed for Lunar landings, they still managed to get the job done.

I was liking the 3rd Picture with the guy with no gear near the door feeding a line in the guy with partial gear on wanting to climb the ladder and the guy above him with what loooks to be no gear in smoke. Also love the old wooden ladders :D Please I'm nit trying to be the PC Police either I know that's how it was done in theose days .............. ;)

No offense TDC, and yeah that's the way it was done it those days, I remember going to a working fire with my dad when I was around eight or so and he came out of the fire coughing and hacking and lit up a cigarette. :rolleyes:

Hey Mark, I believe the fourth pic down is also on West Main, just east of the other fire on West main a few pics below. That was the old Wilcox house. The others don't look familiar, they almost look like the trooper barracks! I remember riding to the St Thomas fire in our old Chrysler ambulance with Dad and Paul Thompson.

Thanks Andy, someone else said they thought it was West main also. I never knew of the St. Thomas church fire until a few years ago.
