Incident Alerts for Routine Stuff

9 posts in this topic

I enjoy this site for several reasons, primarily for the ability to check incident alerts to see if anything major is going on in the area.

It's frustrating to click on incident alerts such as the Pleasantville Roll Over one today and realize that it is a completely routine incident which probably happens on average a couple of times per day in Westchester County. It would be nice if incident alerts could be limited to major incidents and the routine pin jobs, dryer fires, etc. could be left out.

I agree........last week there was an alert sent out for a reported structure fire...the alert was obviously sent out on the DISPATCH information only, as it was steam from the roof after a rainshower..no fire, no merit.

Truck4 does his best, and spends a LOT of time weeding through the IA posts to make sure they qualify as an IA. He also edits them, and checks the facts to the best of his ability. The other moderators also spend some time weeding out the IA's that shouldn't be IA's, but we can't babysit the forum 24/7, and sometimes, you'll see an IA before a staff member has a chance to get to edit or remove it. The guidelines for IA's were posted above by TRUCK6018 (Thanks!), but unfortunetly some members disregard that. We do our best to inform those members of our guidelines for Incident Alerts.

Members who post IA's- please use the above as a reminder as to what constitutes an IA. Also, no member should be discouraged from posting an Incident Alert- if you have a question whether it fits or not, contact Truck4 via PM.

ANY MEMBER-If you ever have a question, comment, concern, or information to add regarding an Incident Alert, please contact Truck4 via PM so it can be dealt with.

I agree with all of the above remarks.

Please read the criteria for an IA and above all make sure the incident is confirmed before you post. "Reported" or "Possible" incident IA's are inappropriate.

Thanks again for everyone's contributions to the site.

I guess that "Mount Vernon Shooting" should not be an IA because it is routine.

I hear what you're saying Flynn but what may be routine to us in NYC, Yonkers and Mt. Vernon is probably a big to do in the northernmost reaches of the county/state.

That being said, it is a pain filtering through all the nonsense to get to the good stuff.

There are numerous members of this site that are vigilant and thorough with posting quality Incident Alerts for all the membership to view, and a complete lack of apprecaiton (by some) for all the work that goes into the forum. If you have a suggestion on how we can do it better, contact me or Truck4.
