Sweet truck. Best of luck, NRFD. Showing my Philly ignorance (again, and DON'T say it Yanks fans), if its fire apparatus, why does it have municipal tags?

In NYS, vehichles that are owned or operated by the municipaliy (city, village, town, hamlet etc etc) are entitled to have "official" tages.

Anesti,

No. What you're referring to is R-54, primarily used for collapse rescue. That will remain in service as is.

NRFD has 2 former NYPD / NRPD ESU trucks, U-95 and R-54

U-95 has been the dewatering unit and will remain in service as the 2nd dewatering unit, along with the new U-96

R-54 is the collapse unit, with the arrival of the new R-4 in the next few weeks the current R-4 (91' Pierce) will become R-54 and the current R-54 (ESU truck) has been donated to the Farral Fund and will be donated to another FD. Normally the City of NR sells old equipment, but this time we thought it was the right thing to pass it along.

The long term plan was always to have 2 dewatering units. They do not do a lot of calls, until a storm, then we get dozens if not hundreds of calls for them.

Dont you know?

A dept with a chief who shows up, even if he is no longer chief.

R-4 will arrive in NR on the 30th, but will go out to the dealer for about 5 days before coming home. It should be inservice around the middle of Dec.

From the looks of it, that is an old ambulance from The Island. Possibly Levittown or Wantagh? Any idea?

Just wondering but where are these special units located and how does NR run these units (how are they staffed)?

THe dewatering units are assigned to station #5 (Stratton Road). During normal requests, a firefighter from E-25 will operate it along with the 1st due engine or ladder. During major storms it is often manned with firefighters (2) who have been recalled to operate it.
