Somers FD New Chief's 2011 Suburban

5 posts in this topic

Located in northeastern Westchester County, the Somers Fire Department has taken delivery of their newest Chief's vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban.

Serving as both a first response vehicle and incident command post, 2443 incorporates an all LED Whelen lighting system that includes a Freedom FX lightbar, 700 series and LINZ6 series Super LEDs behind the grille, M4 LEDs on each outer corner and on the rear cargo door and 4 LAW HideAway LEDs in the rear taillights. Strip Lite and LINZ6 LEDs were added in the rear cargo compartment to provide additional rear facing warning when the cargo door is raised. All six are door activated and can be temporarily disabled by way of an automatically resetting sixty second timer. A roof mounted Dominator Traffic Advisor provides direction for oncoming vehicles. A CenCom control system and Sound Off headlight flasher complete the warning system.

A 24" Havis console contains the department and county trunk radios, Uniden scanner, cup holders, power outlets, side mount armrest, CenCom control head and storage box. The computer mount is a heavy duty Havis system which includes a multi position tilt/swivel arm and docking station for a Panasonic CF19 laptop using a roof mounted Antenna Plus Cellular/PCS/GPS antenna. An airbag option switch was installed to allow for selective deactivation of the passenger front airbag.

The exterior graphics package incorporates gold leaf and reflective elements, the department's elephant logo on each front door and a diamond grade red and white safety chevron spanning the entire rear cargo door. Par 36 Super LED floodlights were installed under the rear of the truck and configured to operate with the OEM reverse lights to aid in backing the vehicle at night.

The staff and crew at Specialty Warning Systems extends it's thanks to the Somers FD for their confidence in us to provide their latest Chief's Suburban, the second vehicle upfitted by SWS for the Somers FD this year. (U-5 was completed and delivered this past June). We look forward to working with them on additional projects in the future.

Watch for the SFD 2443 video in our YouTube library in the near future.

Nice!

I take it Somers is going with white for their Chief cars now?

Also, does Somers use an MDT with the Toughbook, or is it for general use (internet, Hazmat guides, preplans, NIFRS, etc)?

Yes Somers is going with white cars. We have mdt's in the Chiefs Cars, Ambulances and Rescue. They are connected to dispatch and have the dispatch program, EPCR'S and the Hurst Extrication Program as well as the hazmat and other things.
