Too bad I know more resident cops and EMTs who absolutely detest that parade than out of town. Out of town members either hate the detail or love the OT. Local members get to live with that nightmare.

Many depts (police, fire, etc)fought hard over the years to be able to live outside the city limits. Whether it was NYC or others. Sometimes they had to give up other things in order to get that.

Police Officers and Firefighters die on the job whether they live in the city or not. And if people act in an UNcivilized manner, it doesn't matter where a police officer or anybody for that matter lives. You don't have to be a city resident to understand that some people are out to only cause trouble. And its not only police officers or out of town residents that have no use for them.

It is ironic that the day after the City lawmakers propose the residency law, that NYPD Police Officer Peter Figoski of the 75 Precinct is Killed in the Line of Duty. P.O. Figoski was a resident of Babylon, Long Island.

Try finding a decent apartment on a cop's salary to start. I doubt this will get passed. I put a bit more than 14 years in the city before I finally said enough is enough, and moved out. It was just too damn expensive.

Simple solution: Enforce the West Indian Day parade like all the others. How many shootings did we have at the St Patrick's Day parade last year? Puerto Rican Day? (with the exception of that day ten years or so ago) Dominican Day? Israeli Day? Columbus Day? Pulaski Day? Steuben Day? Gay Pride Day? etc., etc.....It's an annual occurrence that the WI day parade is for all intents and purposes a zone of politically permitted anarchy. It's not racism. It's the lawlessness and violence that everyone's sick of.

The move to force first responders to live in NYC is just a shallow way for race-card playing politicians to "never let a crisis go to waste".

RIP PO Figoski
