Search for man who jumped off Newburgh-Beacon Bridge continues

State Police Capt. Keith Corlett said Friday that a trooper was able to reach the man at mid-span, grabbed a hold of him, but couldn’t keep his grasp when the man jumped over the railing.

I feel bad for that Trooper who know has to live with that picture in their head forever.

While it is unfortunate that the Trooper was unable to maintain his grasp, he made the effort and it is indeed fortunate that he was not pulled over by the jumper himself.

Another selfless act by our First Responders! Putting his own safety aside to rush to the aid of someone at their darkest moment. I hope after debriefing and any counseling he realizes that he did everything in his power, more than the average person, for this man, and should be proud of his actions!!
