  1. ATCEMS was created by MUNICIPAL ordinance in 1975. 1975. The County can create legislation that affects all the muncipalties in Westchester. ATCEMS has figured out how to succesfully incorporate volunteer agencies into their system a long time ago.
  2. Yes. EMS in Westchester County, not Westchester EMS-Stellaris Health I'm pointing out a good example that Westchester should study at least some aspects of. Including County legislation regarding EMS. Heck, the Taxi and Limosine industry in Westchester is more regulated and supervised!!This would eliminate contract wars and all the other distracting, uneeded nonsense that goes on.
  3. The Westchester EMS scene is always filled with such drama! Here's the example of a solution and fix-all for all of Westchester's EMS dilemmas: http://www.atcems.org/AboutUs/ If you guys had a system like we have here (and the support of the local government), you could literally eliminate almost every problem there is with the EMS service in Westchester- except egos.
  4. R.I.P.
  5. Sad. Mount Vernon A-1 is probaly one of the best EMS shifts I have ever worked. Great people, learned a ton from the Medics I worked with as an EMT, nice to have a station in an SSM system, loved it when that red phone rang (with 45-M-1 close behind) Will Transcare take over the station in the East Sidney Parking Garage?
  6. 10-4, thanks. I know a fire company in Texas that may be interested in it now.
  7. Is the Ladder owned by the Village, Fire District, or company? The only reason I was curious as to why it was being sold was to find out if it was being sold for mechanical reasons or dissatisfaction. Thanks for the info, Gina! Also, Pleasantville got a used tanker from Bedford Hills. Considering that Pleasantville is surrounded by TL's, this would be a perfect choice. Or for Katonah-but it probaly wouldn't fit in their firehouse.
  8. I'm assuming the Pierce will go into reserve status or assigned for another use. Usually when FDNY replaces it Rescue fleet, they do all 5 companies at once.
  9. I'm just curious- maybe they are trading it in towards the purchase of a new Tower Ladder? The only reason I think that is because doesn't it have to go out to bid to be sold? I know someone from Mount Kisco FD can weigh in on this situation and set us all straight...I hope, obviously there's a lot of people curious and I'm sure MKFD members want the facts straight, and I don't see a reason why this would be top secret. If anyone knows and wants to remain anonymous, send me a PM and I'll post it- and keep my sources secret.
  10. They really did. NEFEA and SVi really seem to listen to their customers needs.
  11. That's VERY strange....maybe they couldn't afford to keep two ladders, and this would fetch more value then TL-14?? Or did they have problems with the truck? Someone on here set us straight.....

  13. Another excellent addition to the fleet!
  14. AWESOME! Great job by Barry and everyone at NRFD that took part in the years of reasearch and planning this took to become a reality!!! Very cool to see it all come together, and can't wait to see it in person.
  15. Glad to see this is getting some attention. Although I don't forsee many states rushing to address this anytime soon, if ever. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-11-15-troopers_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip
  16. I remember the old 4010! WEMS has certainly come a LOOONG way since I worked there. I remember being the first medic to use 4016, the first vehicle WEMS got from SWS spec'd by Al Garavito. I was working 45-M-1 on a Saturday evening, and I was in the old 4010 and swapped into the new 4016. What a difference the lighting package made at the time. I guess things have come full circle. Makes me want to come up every now and then and work a shift there again! Is WEMS still operating from the same location in Mount Kisco, or have they moved to new quarters?? Hopefully these beauties get housed inside when they're not out running by now! Here's a comparison shot I took at that time: http://www.x635photos.com/displayimage-98-4.html And the old 4010 polished up for the Katonah parade: http://www.x635photos.com/thumbnails-98.html Looks great as always SWS!
  17. What do you guys think about this issue? A well-written response and strong position, however I'm not too familiar with this NIOSH alert to be in any position to comment in too much detail, but from what I know this was an excellent response. I hope the Deputy submited this to some Fire Service magazines as well. http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docket/pdfs/NIOSH-141/0141-021409-spinelli.pdf
  18. 1. How does this 7-11 NOT have more survaillence cameras? And 3 times, same store- inside job? Something is fishy about this..... 2. I wonder if any of the Greenburgh budget cuts had any affect on this? I know GPD cars spend a lot of time when available at night near 24 hour locations. Where were the sectors cars, and how far did they have to come from? Were any of them tied up doing EMS? Was Yonkers PD notified immediately, being so close to the border? If the men escaped on foot (probaly to a nearby getaway vehicle anyways), were there enough resources to have a perimiter setup? I know Greenburgh didn't fill 6 police officer positions, and is cutting overtime, and I wonder if this is the effect that this is having on the community, especially considering GPD uses police resources to provide EMS, which means with every ambulance calls you are going to have officers off the streets for a few hours. Does all this allow for proactive policing? Greenburgh was a pretty safe place, and now crime is spiking. http://www.lohud.com/article/20091117/NEWS02/911170328/Greenburgh-robberies-have-neighbors--merchants-on-edge
  19. Convience stores are an easy target. Especially this one, with so many areas to go and hide in in the dark hours. And I'm sure that GPD is doing more then is fit to print to catch these guys. I just think that Greenburgh (TOWN) should restore funding for the 6 vacant officer positions, and fill open holes in the schedule. They should also add civian EMS positions which would free up some officers or . Maybe they can cut back some of the non-essential positions and programs in other areas that the town somehow finds money for. Also to note, there has been an increase in crime townwide. Are these 7-11 franchises owned by the same person?

  22. Wow! Congrats to my long time friend Craig Scatola! Can't believe he's a Motor Officer now lol, seems like just yesterday we were working a Tac bus for Empress. Last I talked to him, he was on the traffic detail.
  23. What I like most about this bill is there are measures to ensure compliance, especially to those departments recieving funding. http://www.firehouse.com/topics/top-headlines/house-passes-reauthorization-fire-grants
  24. Another great find, LFD171! I hope to see this become a reality! Does anyone know if Mount Vernon still has the x-West Harrison Mack CF/Aerialscope single axle in their possesion??? I know that truck's tired and the aerial MAY have failed testing, but they could do what Pelham Manor did to their similar Mack Aerialscope? That wouldn't work if they were looking for a straight stick though, and they already have one Aerialscope.
