  1. Could somebody post where/from whom/contact info for bracelets? I got mine from Jeff Daday last week-but there are folks who've been asking me, and he's my only known source. Skoot
  2. Consider carrying the less expensive and far less complex HT-750's on your rigs. They're 16 channel radios with less buttons to accidentally get pressed, and don't have the display, which gets whacked and cracked during operations. They are durable as heck, and user friendly. MT-1000s are great radios especially in low band-if you still have 'em, and your radio guy will maintain them, great-but standardization is a great idea, in terms of training, familiarization, inventory and battery replacement.
  3. United failed because its payor mix, in a word, sucked. A high percentage of uninsured, undocumented recent immigrants, some Medicaid, and a high percentage of Medicare recipients with poor secondary coverage, does NOT make for a good mix. Add to that all the wealthy, high-covered insured folks going to Greenwich, WPHC or even Soundshore, and that equals a major nail in the coffin. High staff costs due to bloated nursing budgets and administrator salaries........ No organization in their right mind would purchase and/or bail out United, after the St. Agnes-WMC fiasco. The plan is to seek DOH approval to operate an emergent care center at the United site-it would probably be a feeder for one or more of the area community hospitals like WPHC/Soundshore. In all reality, someone's gonna make bucks transferring all the really sick folks out to a real ER, as opposed to a doc-in-the-box.
  4. OK.......I'm gonna go on the record here....ahem. Seth....we want official EMTBravo cool stuff. T-shirts, sweats, ballcaps....gotta have 'em. Skoot
  5. On behalf of the Westchester County Jewish Paramedics Association (WCJPA), which I am honored to serve as the current chairmensch, I would like to wish all of my goyische brethren (and sisthren) a safe and happy you-know-what-mas (Christmahanukwanzaakah?). Isn't it time you called your mother? Peace, y'all. Skoot
  6. Guys... Hate to bust your bubble, but Motorola hasn't made a dual band radio since the dual band Spectra set-up. You can do dual-head/single band with the radios in the picture, which are either CDM-1250's or 1550's (not sure from the photo). Yaesu/Vertex and Kenwood (most commonly purchased around here) are the only commercially available dual-band single or dual-head radios around these days. Skooter
  7. Try a Google search for G&G Communications-they have all kinds of crystals and elements for old equipment.
  8. I don't wake the dead with my snoring....I TERRIFY THE S@#T out of 'em......snort snicker giggle...... Road trip in January/February...first half of the day at NYS Museum in Albany for the EMS exhibit and lunch, then to Hudson for the kick-a## Fire Museum at the Home. Any takers? Party bus? Skooter
  9. I went to the NYS Museum this Saturday-was up in Columbia County for the long weekend. If you like authentic older gear, EMS history and photos, and ESPECIALLY ambulances ranging from horsedrawn to a 2004 McCoy-Miller Type II-go and take the exhibit in. I'm going back, as we forgot the camera! The S&S and Miller-Meteor conversions, achingly beautiful Cadillacs........I miss ambulances with a little grace...a little panache. Go. Call me. I'll go with you. Again. Skooter
  10. Spoke to a Nextel government accounts rep about the continuing problems. His reply was that Nextel wasn't meant to be a "primary" communications modality, and as such the service was subject to "periodic" interruption in certain areas where hardware was being updated or repaired. However, he then stated that there were no such repairs/updates going on in our area. I asked why Nextel was going after public safety accounts as vigorously as it was, and he stated that the data transmission, GPS and Internet access options were the key marketing foci in that market, along with the "secondary voice capabilities" of the iDen technology. In other words, we ain't a priority. Just so we all know where Nextel stands. Skoot.
  11. Seth...the masses have spoken. You must get back to us.You have no choice. We wish to honor the site publicly. You have created the temple...we need proper garb in which to worship within it. Skoot.
  12. Go visit Kenny at Web's World in Peekskill.....he bought the place from Warren..,...all kinds of stuff there...
  13. "But officer, I swear I wasn't doing over 190!" Sheesh. What a dorkus. But his particular brand of idiocy equals job security for a bunch of us, so......whatever. But at 205 MPH, you don't need a backboard. You need a dustpan and a pair of tweezers. Darwin RULES!
  14. Rob's appointment as the CIC for WCC's program is a terrific step-and I think the county's paramedic drought will begin to stabilize, as he gets the program in gear and people stop going outside for a good learning experience. Rob has been teaching all over-he's definitely a heck of an instructor. Let's support him and the program-the county needs it, and so do all those doing massive amounts of OT (sorry WAS, you just do it for the $) because there ain't nobody around to do all the shifts;)
  15. I'm waiting for the first damn yuppie to buy one and be seen tooting around the north county in one of those bastids. And I'm looking foward to watching them get cut out of the thing after the first big snowfall.........."what do you mean, it doesn't have four-wheel brakes?!" I hate yuppies. Starbucks is Satan's coffee place, and Cosi serves Him lunch.
  16. Jealousy doesn't even BEGIN to describe how I feel at this point. Seth, you had better have a great time......or else;) Skoot
  17. Force 10 From Navarone! Get it right, fer shizzle, WAS. And I agree the dam road should remain closed. And all yuppies must burn in the Tenth Circle. They put a goldang Starbucks in Ossining. Darn them all to Heck.
  18. Let's figure this one out........ Have a soda...maybe save a life....check! Have a beer....maybe risk a life (yours, your buddy's, some poor schmuck's)..........NOT! The right to consume alcohol in a fire house....isn't a right. It's an anachronism. Geez, ya wanna drink in the firehouse......maybe we should also go back to rubber coats, or better still, wooden manual pumps you drag out to the scene.
  19. OK, let's get a couple of things on the record here.. 1) WAS, he's overcautious and not the most progressive doc we know, I'll agree. BUT, we all practice under his license-a.k.a. the source of his livelihood-he has the RIGHT to be cautious. We ain't that busy, and we don't do that many tubes, so he's hesitant about RSI. If we could show we were more aggressive with our CME and continuing education to show skills reinforcement and knowledge retention.....but we suck in that area. Fix it, and maybe he'll go for it. Want to carry more Versed? Make a strong case, with proof, not anecdotal evidence. 2) CPAP units that are patient triggered, with lower oxygen consumption, are on the market. The cost has come down considerably to the point where entry-level units are actually, well, almost cheap. All well and good. BUT: my points are similar to my arguements above. Also, when it comes to cost-make an arguement there too. If it benefits the hospital, it might make sense in the long run to acquire CPAP. Will they pay for CPAP? Probably not. Will they support us in its use? Yes, as long as patient/cost benefits can be demonstrated. Again, factual not anecdotal.
  20. Apparently, the video footage includes an inside-vehicle shot as well....gives you the "oh s**t" look on the person's face, the Starbucks cup cradled in their lap sloshing over, dentures flying towards the windshield, etc.....
  21. They have OLM and Westchester EMS vehicles at Galaxy for maintenance/repairs. Galaxy has a division called American Ambulance & Ambulette repair-sort of a spinoff service division.
  22. Katonah's cross band link was supposed to be up as of last Friday-I posted it on Jim Fordyce's board. No rumor there, kiddies. Cheers, Skooter
  23. I wouldn't worry about the picture being intercepted...the CDMA/TDMA formats used to transmit the digital information plus the compression algorhythms used to condense the info would prevent pretty much anybody but the NSA from getting a copy of the pic. With all the Nextels in public safety use in the county, I think using the picture Nextels on the way for MOI or patient presentation pix is an idea worth exploring.
