  1. What's the 2 most commonly used words in the English language? I'll sue!!! This is why we have to watch everything we do and say today. This guy probably didn't think about this until some hot shot ambulance chasser got to him. Why not sue the company that made the heater that started the fire? How about reaching out and going after the builder who built a non fireproof building? The list could go on. The lawyer is going after the city because they'll look for a quick settlement and pay not to go to court. A real "get rich quick" scam. Same as "sidewalk falls." Quick settlements for usually BS cases.
  2. I would have to say it's a mid to late 50"s Seagrave pumper.
  3. Something happens to people when they get behind the wheel of their car. It's as if someone pressed the "Stupid button." That's why we have to slow down a little. Figure out what the driving public can do to get in our way and figure they'll do it. A little while ago driving to an alarm I got passed by a car while I was driving lights and siren.
  4. What happens to the weed wackers, lawn mowers etc when a call comes in? Do they drop them where they stand and go on the run? What happens then if some one hurts themsevles or someone else with the alwn equiptment? Remember in NYC when a pawer saw was left in a subway station and some homeless person used it on someone else? If they have to take time to secure the lawn tools that will increase response times. Use the down time to train. I would think training, working on pre plans....That's more important. Looks like this is just another political hack trying to look like he's saving his city money.
  5. A group of us were down at the show in Harrisburg and it was there on Friday
  6. I don't think its too late so long as the bidding is open. If enough members get together from Ossining they can get a competitive bid. In Garrison they reciently purchased back their '29 Sanford and its in the process of restoration. It can be done.
  7. Wait for DADBO46 to log in. He'll have the info.

  10. Don't have an exact count. I spent most of my time in the kitchen. 2 of your commisioners were there along with several town and county officials. Plenty of food left over. Somewhere in the area of 125 to 135, maybe 30 or so from emergancy services.

  12. While I am not an Imus fan I am definitly not a Sharpton fan either. Imus has said a lot worse in his career. Sharpton will do anythin he can to get publicity. That is the bottom line. No one is more racist than he is. Do we all forget the "HIMITOWN" comments he made several years ago? He never appologised for that!!! The presss keeps on putting that moron on page one.
  13. Hopefully everyone here. We've been asked by many how can they help, what events are coming up etc. Many don't play golf. Well all, here's your chance. Just $15 bucks gets you a salad, spaghetti, meatballs and sausage, soda, cake and coffee. I've done quite a few dinners like this and never sent anyone to the hospital and don't intend to start. The doors open at 6 and the last meal is at . Read my first post for the address, its Immaculate Conseption Church on the Tuckahoe, Eastchester line. Don't anyone say its too far. I'm coming down from Garrison. So anyone who lives within an hour unless your working be there. For the crew at 60 sorry I don't deliver but I'm sure we can find an ambulance crew to bring you up some. (light & siren so it's hot)
  14. Over his career he's said and done a lot worse.
  15. Anything on their new firehouse?
  16. Think of what Partyrock said. You would have to replace whomever you promote. So you have the Salary and benefits (medical insurance, vacation, life insurance, uniform allowence etc) of the new FF You have the extra money paid the new Chief The new chief gets a car added to the fleet of cars used by the other chiefs This gets up there. Now you have a full time person seeing to the administration, training of all personel etc. There really is no downside. Today we are all challenged to earn a living, spend time with our families and no matter if a FF or EMS train. Add to all this the extra time to run the department as a Volunteer chief and it adds up. Everyone I have known who was or is a chief can't wait until there term is up so life becomes normal again.
  17. What you have to look at is if you merge departments whaere are the savings. Reduce the number of rigs? firehouses? manpower? Will you expect better responses? Think of all the things that would be merged. This is not just adding a career cheif issue. the amount of administrative workloads today is getting bigger every day. More paperwork, more standards must be met etc. If the Vol. cheifs don't have enough time to do all of this maybe its time for some sort of changes. Full time administrators instead of a full time cheif may be an option in some places. As for the pay, 90 - 140K then add the benefits and it'll come close to the $200 K mark. That wil be an added expense. will it be a Chief of Operations or Department? Will the chief have to live in the fire district? A lot goes into this you don't just wave a magic wand and presto.
  18. Yes it is. Just remember, I'm the cook!!!!!
  19. Someone should volunteer to try to sell everything at any event posted here. The Pancake Breakfast in Peekskill, the Burn Foundation Spaghetti dinner in Eastchester, Bedford Hills Ham night and any other event.
  20. I remember them at the big jobs in Mt Vernon years ago.
  21. This was about a brother who just happened to be in the right place at the right time and did what he and 10's of thousands of us are trained to do. That's to evacuate the building safely. Did he save lives? Probably. Did he do the right thing? You bet he did and he should get the credit that's his due. All the negitive articles about the fire service we've seen this is a positive one.
  22. 54 years young. Makes you think. A great cop, dedicated to helping his fellow officers and everyone around him. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
  23. When Bill was in the White House Hillary promised to reform "healthcare." It's been out of control since she fixed it? She didn't do anything. What has she done for NY? Whenever Chuck gives a speach she is right there. She waffles on all the previous decisions she has made.akes paper promises. Rudy I guarantee knows the names of many of those who died on 9/11. McCain, not sure what he has done, Obama is still new to politics so he may not yet be ruined by the ways of DC. It's a long list but lets see who's the ones running in 08 after the feild thins out.
  24. Reading some of the tech journals in the last few weeks there has not been any push by corporate america to do these upgrades. The issue is that its the first release and probably have problems. Everyone is waiting until version 1.2 comes out. We just bought a new computer for the firehouse and it has Vista. I spend 4 hours just setting up software, removing adware and other junk. It asks you for pr\ermission every time you do something. That's a little annoying.
  25. I'd like some invitations from some of your departments to come in and talk about the foundation before the dinner. We need your support.
