  1. When I was appointed to the New Rochelle Fire Department March 3, 1986 I was happier then a kid in a candy shop. Myself and the other 8 probies were quickly taken under the wings of the 'senior' guys and they were happy to share with us their years of knowledge and wisdom. We were in awe as to what they knew and what their experiences were. During these times of mentoring, many of the senior guys would always say, "just remember you are nothing but a number to the City of New Rochelle". For years I believed that if you gave your all to the job, the City would always do the right thing. Was I wrong !!!!!! As I got older on the job and more experienced it was clear that the City of New Rochelle could care less of the firefighters as individuals. The City expected their employees to follow the rules and do what we were hired to do and what we swore to uphold. If we didn't we would face the consequences. I have found out that it is a one way street and do as I say not as I do with the City. The City fathers have been sworn to up hold the City charter and provide for it's residences. It amazes me how much money they waste trying to save a dollar. But the money doesn't go to waste it goes to people who are contracted to do a job and they don't do the job, but still gets thousands of dollars while they only save the tax payers hundreds of dollars. All while not following the law. When the City is confronted with their failure to follow the law the response from the City is 'if you don't like it then sue us' . This too is a waste of tax dollars. Sometimes I think the elected officials are not here for the good of the citizens that elected them to local office, but they are here only as a stepping stone to their own political aspiration.
  2. Bobby....To use the words of your wife Melanie..... 'Thank you for being part of my life.' R.I.P. Bobby..... Till we all meet again.
  3. NRPD hired an individual that did not have a drivers license. His hiring was contingent on him securing a valid NYS drivers license by the end of the academy, which he did. He was on the street less then 6 months when he crashed his RMP into NRFD Eng. 24. Eng. 24 was on the way to drop off paperwork at Sta 2 when NRPD Sector 2 crashed into Eng 24 while the engine was making a right hand turn. The engine was hit on the right front wheel and the RMP pushed the engine 7 feet. The police officer had no driving experience at all and was allowed to get behind the wheel of an emergency vehicle. The RMP was estimated to have hit the engine at 56 MPH (accident investigation estimate).
  4. Bobby was well known to the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department and the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps. A friend to many he will be missed.
  5. I'm one of the guys that went out on 207a. I got injured by the negligence of the NRPD. I had a 6 hour surgery and have 2 metal plates in my neck. The City of New Rochelle is saving money by refusing to pay for my continue medical care. They have spent 10 X's the money not paying my medical bills then if they just paid it. I was told by the city managers if I really need continued care to use my own medical insurance. As to your statement about peer pressure. I was "ratted out" by a captain who in his opinion I was scamming. He thought he heard my voice on the radio of a vollie dept. He told the commissioner and a letter of the captains opinion was placed in my file and I was ordered back to work "light duty". He made a mistake, it wasn't me. So be careful if you think someone is scamming. You better be right.
  6. After a long and sometimes impossible investigation I have uncovered the mystery communication device. A wire was cut and the company is pissed. They want to know what you were doing this past Saturday night ????? Actually the storm was to blame. We have a winner !!! The Grand Prize Winner !!!! The man repairing the storm damaged unit stated that these units are part of the Metro PCS cellular network. Mystery solved.
  7. This puts a new meaning to Yonkers "The City of Hills and Nothing on the Level"!!!!!!!
  8. You guys on the Jersey Shore have to watch for grenades in the back seat of the "situation's" car !! Landmine is the skinny version of a Gernade !!
  9. Then let them complain as they pick up and repack 1000' of 2 1/2" hose. First inspect every hose and then replace the damaged lengths. Don't forget to get the #'s. Do the out of service card on the hose and send it to the shop. I've seen cross lays play out while the rig was moving.
  10. Do you think that maybe these individuals that are eligible may already be fire academy graduates??? As you stated that they may have already dumbed down the job and this is the results.
  11. John did respond to the fire with Engine 58, but he didn't drive it back to the station !!!!
  12. At 0405 hrs 60-Control had the following FDNY run down: ~FDNY UNITS ON SCENE ENG'S 38,66,63,97 LAD 51, 61, 39 BATT'S 15,20,17,14,27, ~SQUAD61, DIV 7, R3, FOAM 96 E96, E72, FOAM 95 ENG 95, SAT 2, PURPLE K84 E84, ~PURPLE K 326 E326, FOAM TANDEM 1, E238, HM1, HAZ MAT BATT, E274 HAZ MAT TECH Yes FDNY does have the resources, but where did these units come from, what were their response times ? Getting a lesser response quicker may be the proper call. What good is getting a major response if it takes 30 minutes or more to arrive vs. a smaller response that arrives in 10-15 minutes. So to say JUST CALL FDNY might be the wrong call.
  13. The one you just bought. With my tax dollars ???? Didn't you learn from when you bought the West Haven Rescue ?????
  14. Bill I'm curious to know what is your total tax bill?? School, fire, county etc......What is the size of your house....size of lot , sq ft of the house ...# of bedrooms and # of baths. Maybe you are not paying that much in taxes. I have a 1/2 acres lot, 2500 sq ft 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bath unfinished basement 2 car garage. My New Rochelle taxes ( city, school, county ,sewer, library etc) is about $19,000 for 2011. That is with STAR . If you are any where near that with the few services that you have mentioned, then you may have a point to your posts.
  15. I can only do so much !!!!! The 1 3/4" was all I could advance by myself. K.O. had to make sure Merc-O-Matic and Big Sal were OK.
  16. So you finally admit you were the one that blew me out the back of the structure. I had the 1st line thru the back slider ( the LT. was given the key to the front door but couldn't open it). So to the back we went and there the LT. left me by myself. I was pushing the fire out the back of the kitchen when I got blown back by a line thru the front door.......I guess there wasn't good communications at that fire. The first due engine knew from neighbors that the family was away on vacation. Again poor communications.
  17. The Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Larchmont VAC does not employ any paramedics or EMT's. They never have. The paramedics and EMT's are all employed by the Town of Mamaroneck Ambulance District. The district is a branch of the town government just as the recreation or the building departments are. The Ambulance District has a contract to supply paramedics to both the Larchmont VAC and Mamaroneck EMS. The Ambulance District is the one who does the billing and receives the money from the billing to pay for the paramedic service.
  18. And you can always call the PETAMEDICS !!!!
  19. Another crisis was avoided due to the home CO and Gas Detector. At around 1:30 Am today, I was awoken by the loud piercing alarm of my CO and Gas Detector. I ran down the stairs to see what alarm was sounding and yelling to my wife to get the kids. I grabbed the detector from the wall outlet and it was displaying GAS. Not smelling any gas and the unit immediately went silent and reset. Thinking it was a malfunction my attention was then turned to the noise of my dog at the back door. He had to go out. I opened the door and out he ran finding the closest patch of grass and immediately evacuated himself due to a bad case of diarrhea. It appears that as my dog was making his way to the rear door he expelled some gas activating the CO/Gas Alarm. The alarm in turn alerted me to my dogs impending disastrous situation within my house, which was promptly averted. So remember to check your smoke, CO and gas detectors monthly and replace the batteries twice a year.
  20. It looks identical to the TMFD old Eng-36 which was a 1956 ward la france.
  21. I can see why they stopped using it as a fire house. It must have been extremely difficult getting the rigs in and out of the building. Having that big tree in front of the bays !!!!
  22. What about the prisoners ??? The forest service has used this resource many times.
  23. George ...looking to pick up a little spending cash ???
  24. Because at one time there were 2 fire houses on North Ave, Station 6 in the previous pictures was know as the Mill Rd fire house and Station 3 at North Ave and Eastchester Rd was/is known as the Eastchester Rd fire house. When I was assigned to Station 3 I would tell people I worked at the Eastchester Rd fire house.
  25. That was old station 6 NRFD. Even though it was on North Ave it was referred to as the Mill Rd station.
