At 0405 hrs 60-Control had the following FDNY run down:
    ~FDNY UNITS ON SCENE ENG'S 38,66,63,97 LAD 51, 61, 39 BATT'S 15,20,17,14,27,
    ~SQUAD61, DIV 7, R3, FOAM 96 E96, E72, FOAM 95 ENG 95, SAT 2, PURPLE K84 E84,
    ~PURPLE K 326 E326, FOAM TANDEM 1, E238, HM1, HAZ MAT BATT, E274 HAZ MAT TECH
Yes FDNY does have the resources, but where did these units come from, what were their response times ? Getting a lesser response quicker may be the proper call. What good is getting a major response if it takes 30 minutes or more to arrive vs. a smaller response that arrives in 10-15 minutes. So to say JUST CALL FDNY might be the wrong call.

Since the SEALS took out Bin Laden, and walked out of his compound with a treasure trove of computers and information, Al Qaeda leaders/bomb makers/planners are being picked off all over the world. I think it's only a matter of time before they get Al Zawahiri, the number two guy, the Egyptian doctor with the ugly birthmark on his forehead (makes a nice target for one of our sharp-shooters).
It took ten years to find Bin Laden, but what a gratifying feeling to learn our boys took him out. He was a crafty evil bastard, hiding in a Pakistani garrison town basically in plain sight, but in the end he wasn't able to outsmart the greatest military the world has ever known. And his over-confidence that he wouldn't be caught led to that mound of information he had in his possession about all of his lackeys, these sicko jihadis that multiplied like the cockroaches they are.
The one guy that I yearn for the news of his imminent departure from the world is one Adam Ghadan; the American mouthpiece traitor who's been trash talking our country since 9/11, making his videos about how evil America is. Can you believe this P.O.S. is a native Californian?
It's awesome to know how relentless our military has been in pursuing and bringing these terrorists to the ultimate justice they deserve; death at the hands of our soldiers.
It's been a tough price we've paid in blood. We've lost thousands of soldiers, and tens of thousands more have suffered horrific injuries.
But just like they initially named a camp early in the Iraq War after Ron Bucca, FDNY Fire Marshall K.I.A. on 9/11, the military has never wavered from the mission to get the miserable scum who attacked us; and took from us some of the greatest firemen and cops of our generation; and thousands of innocent people who just went to work on a bright sunny day in September, ten years ago.
The message is; you hit us hard, then ran and hid. But one by one, you're all going down.
It's hard to keep remembering year after year that our troops are still on the mission, and will not stop until the job is finished, and we get every last one of those responsible for attacking our country. Never Forget.

So you finally admit you were the one that blew me out the back of the structure. I had the 1st line thru the back slider ( the LT. was given the key to the front door but couldn't open it). So to the back we went and there the LT. left me by myself. I was pushing the fire out the back of the kitchen when I got blown back by a line thru the front door.......I guess there wasn't good communications at that fire. The first due engine knew from neighbors that the family was away on vacation. Again poor communications.

The Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Larchmont VAC does not employ any paramedics or EMT's. They never have. The paramedics and EMT's are all employed by the Town of Mamaroneck Ambulance District. The district is a branch of the town government just as the recreation or the building departments are. The Ambulance District has a contract to supply paramedics to both the Larchmont VAC and Mamaroneck EMS. The Ambulance District is the one who does the billing and receives the money from the billing to pay for the paramedic service.

Another crisis was avoided due to the home CO and Gas Detector. At around 1:30 Am today, I was awoken by the loud piercing alarm of my CO and Gas Detector. I ran down the stairs to see what alarm was sounding and yelling to my wife to get the kids. I grabbed the detector from the wall outlet and it was displaying GAS. Not smelling any gas and the unit immediately went silent and reset. Thinking it was a malfunction my attention was then turned to the noise of my dog at the back door. He had to go out. I opened the door and out he ran finding the closest patch of grass and immediately evacuated himself due to a bad case of diarrhea. It appears that as my dog was making his way to the rear door he expelled some gas activating the CO/Gas Alarm. The alarm in turn alerted me to my dogs impending disastrous situation within my house, which was promptly averted.
So remember to check your smoke, CO and gas detectors monthly and replace the batteries twice a year.

Well this is truly amazing. According to lohud, over 60 police units had to respond from as far south as Tuckahoe to deal with this unreasonable and unruly crowd. Why? Because their "muslim sensibilities" were insulted? Give me a freakin' break. The rules are posted and for certain rides, there is to be NO WEARING OF ANY TYPE OF HEADGEAR period.
Why do these people think they are exempt from the rules, the laws? I know what they would like; Sharia Law. Their own version of a justice system implemented in the countries they emigrate to. I think that is a disgusting disgrace, as were the actions of these supposedly "religious" people at the Playland park.
Look, you people want to assimilate in this country, fine. I guess we have to let some of you in. But if you don't like the system, the rules in place... TOO F'IN BAD, go back to the place you came from.
The difference between these people and the ancestors of many of us here in this forum is our great-grandparents had a huge desire to assimilate into the American culture. That's why on my mother's side, they came from Italy, moved into the south Bronx and gave up teaching their native language to their children, my mother, and therefore I don't know Italian today as a result. I wish that part were different, but the point being these people were so anxious to "fit in" they even gave up their language. Italian was forbidden to be spoken in the house by my great-grandparents, as a result their great-grandchildren only speak English.
Now these muslims with their headgear, the hijab, they can't even get on the Dragon Coaster without starting a ruckus? Like Playland OWES them something, like WE owe them anything? They should kiss the ground of freedom they walk upon, shut their damn mouths, follow the rules, or else.
What a waste of PD resources to have to direct half the cars on patrol up to Playland because these freaking people were "insulted"! Enough! Fit in or GET OUT!

Just one thing Cap... plenty of Muslims born here these days... Nation of Islam and their ilk? So that don't always apply.
I have to say, I've never heard about Jews rioting at Playland because they can't get on certain rides with their hats & skullcaps.
As for immigrants, I'm one of them. I still get my balls busted at times for the Scottish accent. But I'll tell you this, I'm American now. Not Scottish-American or some other damned hyphenated thing. American. I came here for a reason, maybe some others need to remember why they came here. And if I don't like the rules or system I'll do what any American does; b**** about it, and get involved in the political process and try to change it to how I think it should be.

Absolutely, if the IC from Hastings had asked YFD to protect the exposure, and then H-O-H shut down two or three lines.....
Like Bad Box said, this is NOT a criticism. My job had one of these years ago, only problem was the vehicle was pointed downhill TOWARDs the exposure. We filled the driveway 3 feet deep with foam to extinguish.
Think about the "wash-down" run-off that goes into the storm drain. Where does it go? Does it accumulate to explosive levels someplace else? Or being Hastings, does it just flow into the Hudson....
Something to think about for the next time. Every job is a learner. Takes nothing away from the effort the Brothers made there.

It doesn't have to be an abandon building to pick up hitchhikers !!! Everyone has been to "that type of house" even in the best neighborhoods. That is why I can't understand how you can go on an EMS call wearing shorts. If you choose to wear shorts while on duty, you have to wear your bunker pants on any and all calls.
When I worked EMS I never had work pants that had cuffed legs. That was an invitation to bring hitchhikers back home with you. I also always wore boots. That added protection to your ankles not only to help prevent a twisted/sprained ankle, but from getting bit from rodents or insects on the floor. And in one incident an escaped snake that bit the owner..........

That's another politically union correct answer. The real life story is if you are one of the companies dispatched to a fire and you have to cross a picket line you will cross it, IAFF member or not. If the strikers interfere with the F.D. in any way then you let the P.D. handle the strikers and you go about your duties. As a firefighter you swore to protect all life and property. There was no exception clause to the oath you took. Now when you are off duty you can support any and all picket lines and the job can't say anything about it. As long as you stay within the bounds of the law.
If you refuse to do your duty and not cross a picket line you could find yourself on charges and losing time/pay. And maybe your job.
In the case of the Yonkers strike years ago, many of the career and combo department just outright refused (ahead of time) to respond to any call in Yonkers. This way it didn't put the IAFF members of the M/A departments in an awkward position. Lucky that there was no large scale emergencies that would have required the career departments to respond. If you are dispatched you must respond. When I say dispatched I mean that the chief or ranking officer of the department ordered his companies to respond. If you refuse you may be put on charges and may even lose your job.

Are these Verizon workers from other parts of the country that do not have union shops or are they out side contractors? If they are Verizon workers wouldn't they be all trained to the same standard as the local Verizon workers who are union or does the union provide training above and beyond what Verizon does? If they are trained the same how can you say it's inferior work???
I don't blame these workers, they are only doing an assignment they are detailed to. I do blame the upper management for not negotiating and if the numbers in a previous post are accurate the C.E.O. for making the money he does on the backs of workers that are doing in my opinion a great job. Any time I have a problem with my Fios (which is very rare) someone either on the phone or in the field has been able to fix it correctly and quickly.
