Many many FD's in Westchester have very little regard for OSHA regulations. This year I can think of over 35 violations issued in Westchester (and thats just 3 depts). How many depts. respond to "fire calls" with fewer than 6 firefighters (at least 4 being interior)? I can think of about 20% of Westchester FD's (I know there are many more from reading the IA's) that violate the respiratory protection program by lack of manpower on at least a portion of there calls.
And the wrath from PESH is not strong enough to convince depts to change thier ways. I hope that the litigation that is coming will hurt enough to convince many depts that they need to follow the rules. Its sad to think that firefighters and officers don't fight for this because its the right thing to do and it will protect us.
Deputy Chief Billy Goldfeder has a great line, he asks: "WHO IS IN YOUR WALLET"? If you do not care for the people whos photos you carry in your wallet then dont follow the rules, they are there so that at the end of the day you go home to them.

It's their site, they make the rules. Number 2, if it was not in the context of the discussion, they had every right to move it and branch out into another thread. I have been on this site for something like 6 years and I have had my issues with the people that run it. I don't agree with a lot of stuff that goes on here, but this one they got right. You got beef?? Bring it up in private.

Feel better, pal. I had a run in with the bumper of another car, and a guardrail coming off the thruway. Jimmy 1, guardrail 0.

Like Brian said, ANI ALI can be advantageous, and at times better than nothing. Spin brings up a good point. I thought about that today as I was driving home, and heard the tape of the call. The lady can clearly be heard saying 419 Montauk Highway, and the town she's in. I wonder if the CAD that is being used on the Island has that feature, where it pops up multiple choices.
We have that here for a number of spots, Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, or in Breezy Point, West 9th Street in Red Hook, or Coney Island. There's a Broadway in each borough, so we ask as part of our interrogation, "what borough are you in?" before we even take an address.
The news also reported the wife screamed "You killed my husband!!!" My heart truly goes out to that dispatcher.

Like I said in the other thread, check the egos at the door. I'm taking this from my end of the emergency services spectrum. I don't care how many halls you've crawled down, how many babies you've delivered,or traumatic arrests you've worked, how many high profile collars you've made. I don't care how many big ones you've worked on the radio. I don't care if you're paid, or pride is your paycheck. Be it a rockin truck company in Southern Westchester or a Vollie Trolley doing two runs a week. You're no different than me or anyone else.
We all have a common goal, and that's doing the right thing by our peers, and the people we have a sworn obligation to protect. There's always room to learn, critique, or just show off some pictures from our latest travels. Let's keep that in mind.
Here's my opinion on Facebook. There are some real despicable groups on there, that are much more worthy of the time and effort placed on the anti-Seth G crowd.(F the Troops, anyone??) Like it or not, the people who own these groups have every right to put forth whatever they want to say. We agree, we disagree, we think that person should be taken behind the woodshed, whatever. I have no problem with Facebook, as it has gotten me back in touch with a lot of friends from my childhood, high school years, and my military years. It also got me in touch with my girlfriend, who was a classmate of mine in elementary school nearly 30 years ago.(Although at first she didn't remember me and I had to point to our 4th grade picture to remind her who I was.)
In the little more than two years since I joined, I have been able to see and spend time with people who meant, and mean the world to me. Either in person, or online. I've shared in triumph, tragedy, and flat out silliness. It's not a bad thing, nor at times, is it a good thing. It's what you make it. You can use it like any other website out there, to your advantage. I use it, and this site, and a few other sites to my advantage. Just a little nugget of something to ponder.
Excellent point brought up about how your actions, positive or negative reflect on the department you are a member of. That includes Facebook. I have already seen what complaining about the mess that FDNY Communications has become can do. We had a page which was nothing more than a bitchfest about this that and the other. Things got posted, it got back to downtown, investigations were launched, and people got some stern talking to's and the page disappeared. If any of you have me on your FB Friends list, you know most of my work related posts are just saying I'm off to work, looking for some fun at work(which is in rare supply these days) and, every other Thursday, the famous line from Goodfellas, FU PAY ME!!!! There's a few pictures of me, off duty, and intoxicated, but hey, I'm 36 years old and I am allowed to drink. It all boils down to using common sense. What would you want your family or friends to see?? Secondly, do you want to put something up there that is going to bring discredit upon you, or the Department you serve?? Spin from Elmont makes a great point, people in this job have looooooooong memories. There's crap that I did when I was a probie, and a dispatcher, and a supervisor that has not been forgotten. One Aw poop will wipe out any Atta Boy's you've had.

The last two posts are excellent, thanks guys, you pretty much put things in clear perspective and you are 100% correct, things are clearly not like they used to be, I bet if you asked 3/4 of my members who the first chief was or what year were we chartered they wouldn't have a clue nor do they care.
I will do my part and get back on here and post, hopefully others will as well, I really enjoy all aspects of the site, especially seeing several of the pro-active depts training photos, their thoughts and ideas, we all are here because we love the emergency services.

Well, I didn't want to sully up the Dutchess thread, but I've been wanting to say FACEBOOK SUCKS for a long time. Reading that thread just gave me a reason to say it here.
I'm kinda flabbergasted by some of the comments over there. There are quite a few career guys here who make it a point to NOT bash volunteers. I count myself in that group. I've made friends with guys from both sides of the equation through EMTBravo.
Seth, I think if you want to try and bring members back who may be MIA these days, a good place to start would be to eliminate the "rep scoreboard." I love giving out rep points. I have to say, I have felt very gratified that people respected some things I have had to say or post, and gave me points. But I feel like my position on the "scoreboard" makes people NOT respond to things I post now. KEEP THE REP POINTS. Just do away with the scoreboard. PLEASE. This way we can give a good post a positive boost, and everyone can feel equally respected when that happens.
I know a few very smart and wise firemen and officers who come on here. One is just starting to bring his knowledge to the board. He worked in some of the busiest fire companies in the world, and also served as a volunteer in every rank from fireman to Commissioner. He doesn't distinguish who he is passing his experience and knowledge on to, career or volunteer it doesn't matter. That's the way most of the guys I know with far more experience and knowledge than I will ever have approach the volunteer/career issue. And I have always chosen the same path, just don't tread on us, and we won't on you. It's just a mutual respect thing that's all.
And some volunteers shouldn't be so sensitive when a guy like Chief Flynn starts asking questions. Right away they take it as bashing. It is about trying to see improvement in delivery of service to the people we serve/d. Career guys fight to improve the fire service. Some guys are more "in your face" style than others. But those guys can teach you a lot if you can let your guard down.
In closing I'd like to say once more how much I think Facebook sucks.

Ridiculous, simply ridiculous. You shouldn't have to subscribe for fire service. If the municipality makes it as part of the tax fees, ok fine. I guess the whole idea of having a duty to act just went out the window. This guy didn't subscribe, so his house burns, but Exposure 4 ante'd up, we'll protect his home. Am I the only one here who thinks this is just a bad idea?

Did a little roadtrip with the girlfriend and her son. First stop, Canton, OH, home of the football Hall of Fame. After soaking in the sights, I stopped at Canton, Engine 4. First in to the Hall.

The next day we went off to Chicago, not after a pitstop at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. PHOOEY!!! Can't take pictures, what's the point???
    Fireboat Schlaeger, Engine 58..

That was all I got for my first day. Then, the next day it was out and about for the day...Behold, SQUADZILLA!!!!! Actually Squad 7 at O'Hare.

Next stop, Engine 8 and Truck 4 in Chinatown. Never mind the Brunette. This is the house DeNiro came out of in Backdraft.

    Next stop, Aerial Tower 1.

Engine 42, Truck 3, and what I really wanted, Squad 1's Snorkel. If you remember my last trip through Chicago, the Rock Box broke down, so I was unable to get half of what I wanted to shoot. PS, the Rock Box has been retired, effective July 29th.

A big thank you, again, to GrumpyFF, Mike Quinn, Brian, and anyone else who helped out. And for you Orange County folks. If you see me coming with the camera, ask me to bring a cake or something. Don't tell me there's a website I can look at. I'm taking pictures for my own collection and sharing with people. See ya on the next trip.

I wanted to wait till after the members from Tarrytown were laid to rest before I put up any pictures. These are from trips I took over the course of the summer. My earliest trip was LA County, Orange County, and Philly. The day after Philly, I headed up to Waterbury, CT to meet up with Rockland Fires and a number of other buffs for the Silver City Fire Fest. Well, Mid June rolls around and it's time for vacation. I had this trip planned for a while. I gotta tell you, I had no intention of shooting any rigs on this last trip. Well, maybe two or three. Turned into a few more.
I left the Chateau and headed out to Mount Rushmore. After soaking in the sights, I stopped in the Firehouse Brewery in Rapid City, SD. From there it was down to LA via Denver, and Vegas.
My intention was simply to shoot one Los Angeles County Rig. But before I got that, it was Orange County Engine 63 I just happened to roll up on.

I headed over to OCFA Station 61, across the street from Knotts Berry Farm. Spied Truck 46 from the street. Took my shots, and took off for the north County.

My destination was an hour plus away and made it there in pretty good time. Especially for a guy who doesn't like to sit around twiddling my thumbs in traffic. I arrive in the little area called Pearblossom. LA County Station 79. Paid Engine and Patrol, Volunteer Engine in the back.

    Engine 79, 2007 KME
This was the Engine 79 that Code 3 did a few years back. It was given to the Volunteers when the KME was delivered, 1995 Freightliner. It replaced a 1970's vintage Crown.

This was all I really wanted, but the bug bit me. So I ran down to Yorba Linda, home of President Nixon, and a special lady friend of mine. Sorry boys, no pictures of her. But while waiting for her to get ready for a night out, I took some shots of OCFA Engine 32.

This was it until I went home. Or so I thought. I headed out to Tempe, Arizona to see another friend of mine. No intentions at all to shoot anything, as evidenced by me driving out with my friends daughter and her boyfriend, and the bf saying, "Hey look, smoke!!" Had to follow, and it was Mesa, Engine 201, and I don't know which Truck. Junkyard fire. Shot taken with the cell.

Finished up my trip with a few days on the shore. Back to work, and in between, a little trip to the city of Brotherly Love.
First stop, Engine 29, Medic 15, and Rescue 1. Rescue 1 didn't come out too good, and you guys deserve a little better from me.

Next stop, Center City and Chinatown.
    Engine 20

For some reason, I can't reply to my own topic. So I am going to finish up on here.
Next stop, the Battleship of the West, Squrt 57.

Northbound, Engine 50 and Truck 12.
    Brand new KME

We bid Philadelphia adieu..Next stop, next post, the Silver City Fest, day 1.
